If you can get into a prestigious, brand name grad program (Top 15 US news or so) focus on Developmental/Child Psychology and get your PHD. After that, move to a rich neighborhood (somewhere near NYC, SF, LA etc) and open up a clinic. Affluent people will shell out absurd amounts of money for someone to chat with their spoiled, shitty kid about their feelings and such.

Is it bad to go into an interview with a beard/well trimmed stubble?

Is clean shaven still the only way to go for corporate America?

I've had a beard pretty much all my adult life, not hipster lumberjack shit, just too lazy to cut it completely. I trim it up, and it's not patchy, but I still feel pressured into shaving before an interview.

How are beards looked upon in the business world?

>yet another economics book which doesn't define how 'needs' are determined.

Are we just to assume every individual is the same? Are we to assume there is a level that even the most rapacious, avaricious individual finds placation in their accumulation of economic goods so that the good is, in the Mengerian sense, non-economic? My problem is across the board. The only economist I've seen come even close to an appropriate theory of the development and origin of needs is probably Ludwig Von Mises. It is just ridiculous though, how he says non-economic goods are communistic in nature, but then turns around and stipulates some other tendency for them not to be if they won't satisfy everyone's needs.

Where is the line crossed? I would argue that the nature of good's relation to us physically and emotionally (spiritually), they are either capable of corrupted increase (almost increased indefinitely for consumption) or not (they satisfy some need which will not increase after satisfied). Something like an indefinite increase in output to satisfy the needs of individuals can be observed in food, where because of characteristic increases in personal consumption, you see the level of production every stage in the production period increase more and more, exponentially so, because the population increases WITH the need to consume. This is tied together with wealth increases being given to give individuals a certain life or livelihood, as in the Smithian days income was thought to be determined by the money necessary to help sustain himself and his wife and kids if necessary.

Keynes, for example, in his general theory, introduced the concept that if you decrease money-wages, you will increase investment due to the decreasing of the interest rate, and the simultaneous raising of the marginal efficiency of capital. This will cause an economic boom, which will be followed by increasing prices, and therefore increasing output AND money-wages. You are literally increasing consumption by LOWERING the amount that you pay people in the end.

It seems there is a moral problem with economics, in the long run, then. And it is one of greed and rapacious individuals seeking to enlarge their store of goods and individuals because of invidious, or prideful circumstances.

What say you?

needs are things you cannot live without.

greed deals with wants, not needs.

individuals' needs are pretty much all the same, though dependent somewhat on weight.

you need a certain amount of food and water. you need sunlight and vitamins/minerals. you need society.
That's about it.
if you won't die without it, it's not a need.

Is it unethical to cheat a STEM major class for an A if the exam answers just so happened to fall on my lap?
19 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>1800800

Unethical, no. You are paying a shit load of money for the privilege of taking that exam so exploit the system in any way you can.

Inadvisable, yes. If you want to pursue a career in this field, try your hardest and do the exam yourself. Any shortcomings are the areas you need to work harder.
>>
>>1800813
I thought about both

The thing is, it's a class not required by my major but tangentially related, I'm an engineering major and this class is usually required by a couple of other types of engineering

It's a bit of a first year class so my future classes won't require it known anyway

I may be losing my $17/hour job at the beginning of March and I live in the middle of nowhere where it's hardly impossible to find a job making more than $10/hour. Should I just use my savings and go to trucking school? My expenses wouldn't be more than my cell phone, car insurance (I could sell my car) and food. I could easily save enough in 2-4 years to live comfortably while in University for 4 years.I'm currently 23.

Hello,
I just bought some shares for a small amount of money (~$400) and I did not put a stop-loss. I thought that since the amount of money I've placed is quite low I could just wait it out if the stock tanks. Have I made a mistake?

PS. The stock I bought was AMD, I figure I'm too late for the insane gains but steady growth in near future is expected. What do you think?

Just check back every day and see if there is any growth.

I'm putting a thousand into a local business and forgetting the money ever existed, while keeping an eye on the stocks, until they finish set up and start making profits. If they don't, and the shares tank, then it's a sad event that I was prepared to accept.

Worst that happens is you pretend you never had that $400. The world won't end.

I don't set stops. As an investor there's little need to set a stop-loss when diversified. Close or double down on tp limits, that works fine.

10am tomorrow. Everyone is going to be listening whether a rate hike is coming in March or not. It's expected in June as of now.

The expected outcomes, but gold has been moving independent of dollars and rates recently, so I wouldn't put too much weight in these:

March hike - gold tanks
no March hike - gold moons

Hey /biz/,
I've been thinkin about starting a freelance type site that taps into an untapped market and I was hoping I could get some assistance figuring out where to start from you guys. Basically what I want to do with my website is have a site much like Fiverr, where a contractor puts their service up as a listing, and those interested can purchase it at a set time. Our website acts as a third party, holding each party accountable for their part (money is paid to the website, if customer doesn't show the contractor gets it, if contractor doesn't show customer gets refunded and it will show on the profile of the contractor that they failed to arrive). It also certalizes this idea which makes customers more likely to look into it. Thoughts on this? Also, I had some questions:
> If I wanted to create a website for people to connect on and use it as a medium, where would I start? I assume there's no "easy make-your-own" for that sort of thing, should I hire someone to do it, do it myself, or what, and if so what should I expect that to run me?
> Do I need to register anything or anything like that if I want to make an eCommerce business?
> How do I keep a copycat from springing up, given it becomes popular? Patent??

I have made a few websites over the past few years with no coding/ programming knowledge.. I live in the UK so my advice is only representative of my situation but it should be considered to be universal.

> If I wanted to create a website for people to connect on and use it as a medium, where would I start? I assume there's no "easy make-your-own" for that sort of thing, should I hire someone to do it, do it myself, or what, and if so what should I expect that to run me?

-Register your chosen domain name at 123-reg.co.uk
-Using that platform, find the Wordpress hosting package
-Use wordpress to create your site, mostly click and drop

Alternatively:
-Register domain at 123reg
-Go to Weebly.com
-Create a site using their platform (easier)
-Use your registered domain on the weebly hosting service

> Do I need to register anything or anything like that if I want to make an eCommerce business?
Again, dependent on where you are, unless its earning over 100k profit yearly... I wouldn't bother at all... if that does occur... worry about it at a later date/ get advice of someone professionally as opposed to a Vietnamese sugarcane growing forum!

> How do I keep a copycat from springing up, given it becomes popular? Patent??
You generally cant, just ensure your the first to do it and become the go-to-name!

Is dropping out school okay?
I'm 18yo and I'm already a wagecuck, I just was honest with myself and didn't want to waste years of my life on a useless degree (literature or shit like that) because that's what I can mentally afford.
I work in sales and I'm not enjoying it much, so years from now if I get enough money to open my own restaurant or a coffeeshop, is it NECESSARY for me to have years of experience in that specific field?
Sorry if my post is all over the place

Of course it's not necessary if you're the one putting up the capital for it, but it certainly is helpful.

But from what you're saying, you sound like a complete moron. Coffeeshops and restaurants are hard enough to operate profitably when you have a genius behind the wheel.

"People" invest your settled funds when you're not using them, just like banks.

> It's been X days, why isn't my account verified yet?
Not being approved in 3 days seems to be the new norm. Nevertheless, call/email their support if you've been waiting more than that.

The only "plans" are on an Australian and Chinese beta. Neither of which has gained much traction.

> I hit sell when the stock was X.XX, but it actually sold at a lower price, why?
Robinhood graphs are shit and only show you an average, not true real-time prices. To get Bid/Ask prices and important things like candlestick graphs, you should use a more robust platform.

> Where can I get better charting or bid/ask?
Real brokers, like TDAmeritrade's thinkorswim. Otherwise you should be using stockcharts.com, finviz, or a non-pile-of-shit for your graphing in addition to Robinhood.

Use these threads to find these rinky-dink little stocks and bet small amounts on them. More than half will lose you money. Maybe 1 in 10 will make you 50% or more.

Ask yourself:
>When was this stock first mentioned? Did I miss the boat?
>Look at the graph for the day. Does it look like it already popped?
>Look at the graph for the week. If you leave your money in this overnight, will it lose you a lot?
>Look at the graph for 1 month, 3 months, one year. Is this stock operating abnormally above its usual price, or did it have a reasonably steady climb to get to where it is now?
>Look at the volume compared to the average volume. Does this stock look like it is getting more attention than usual? Is this the first day or two it has gotten that much attention?

Use these questions and your judgment to vet the picks that people suggest here. You are trying to maximize your opportunities that someone calls out a stock, you see it early, and it hasnt begun a launch yet
