Hey biz,

im running a small construction business and have just now noticed that i`ve been scammed for 20% of a construction job.
It is kind of complicated to explain since im lacking the specific lingo in english, but basically how it went down is like this:

I had a construction job running july-october 2016 for around 80k gross, and over the time i wrote 3 partial invoices of ~20k each and a final one of roughly the same sum when the job was finished.

Now, the client had an internal review of my final invoice. For his calculations he now took the base net of the total contract value, (eg 66k) and subtracted the gross sum of the first two invoice payments (20k gross instead of 16k net).
Strangely, the third one was listed as net again, as should have been done for all of them - anyway it was just a big cluster fuck but i didnt twice check it back then. Basically my final invoice was already 60 pages long and the client's review was another 12 pages, so i just looked at the review's cover page which stated that im getting another 10k and i was okay with that.

Now today i was fooling around on my bank account and looking at last year`s income payments and noticed the weird sums.
So i dug into the review and noticed where the reviewer fucked up (might be on purpose because we ended the job on a bad note, might be just an accident),

Now since its an authority that was contracting me, it would be no problem to just tell them and get the 8k back, but i kind of had follow up trouble not being able to pay the supply chain in a timely manner, so im wondering about some methods of claiming my damages without going to court?
In these kind of things you usually have to clarify specifically the damages that you have received, but you can't really put a provable number on a broken relationship to my material dealer.
Ever since i couldn't pay on time i had to swap to a more expensive and logistically worse dealership for construction material.
Whats my line?

What country are you in?

I'm in a trade and have an LLC. I wanna help you but your post is fucking complicated.

It sounds like you are saying that a client shorted you $8k?

I've had a client short me, and firstly this not something you let slip by. You address it right away and politely.

I think my email went something like:

"dear anon, this is XYZ company, on ________ date you were serviced the attached service (see attachment). The total fee came to ___________. To date I have received _______, leaving a remaining bill of ____________. I just wanted to make sure there is no confusion over the bill or the services provided, please call me at ________".

Then just keep going back and forth. Keep it polite. Sometimes these people are dealing with millions and just fucked up a (small) payment. My brother got overpaid $10k on a job and had to call the company to send them some money back.

But honestly, you need to be very very very sure they are trying to fuck you before going all legal mode. Because if it was a mistake, and you threaten to sue they are gonna blast your business.

Just get them on the phone.
>>
>>1796525

Oh, and my story is kinda funny

> guy shorted me $100 on a job
> no big deal
> keep sending emails
> he keeps responding "check is in the mail"
> after my 5th email I decided to send him a threat email
> told him I would lien his home if he did not pay
> He puts a check in the mail 2 weeks later

For some retarded reason some people think they can get away with cheating people. Which is like driving into oncoming traffic, it's just a matter of time before you get crushed.
>>
>>1796525

For future reference here is how you should handle contracts:

1) Go over the job in DETAIL with the customer, take your sweet time and look at every little thing they want or dont want, take notes
2) Write up a very detailed and accurate contract for everything
3) Get them to sign and get 20% down (or more it may depend on your industry)

As the job progresses if things change, write up a "change order" for the additional costs and have them sign it.

At the end print up a final contract that includes the remaining balance plus all the change orders.

Im on the fence about qorking for vector, im very aware about its pyramid scheme but im not really concerned about that. All i want to know is will it help me get better jobs, and more money???

Depending on the popularity of the specific pyramid scheme, some companies look at your employment history negatively if they see something like that on there.

Also they make the top of the pyramid more money then you would get entering the bottom, unless you start hiring suckers yourself to boost your comp.

Would it be better to keep my emergency savings in a normal savings account or in low risk investments in a non tax advantaged account for easy liquidation in the even that I need to tap into it? I'm on the fence on what to do, a savings account gives very small returns but is easier to access I guess. Right now I'm about 50/50. What does /biz/ do?

I would opt for commodities that are low risk and wont go down in price

Something like Tanzanite might be a good idea.
>>
>>1796405
I keep about $3000 in cash (mostly 20's) and about $30,000 in checking.
>>
>>1796405
I keep emergency funds in savings because anything truly low risk and liquid isn't going to provide much of a return in excess of what you get in a savings account anyway.

What are some mischievous ways to make money?

>go to thrift store
>take tag off moderately priced item ($20-30)
>argue with the cashier and get it for $5 then sell it on eBay
20 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Niggers do that shit in my area all the time. Now no tag = no sale.
>>
>>1796024
It's a thrift store... unless the owners are complete jews, most things are going to be really cheap anyway. Is that really a mischievous way to make money so much as pathetic bottom feeding?

Throughout high school and college I just went to Value Village and Goodwill and looked for high-end stuff. It was not uncommon for me to find Burberry, Dior, Brooks Brothers, etc. items for like $10 or less that easily sold for $50+ on eBay. Heck, I've even gone to Goodwill, bought a bunch of jeans, and then gone straight to Plato's Closet less than 2 miles down the street to sell them for a profit.

Based on the information you provided, it sounds like your tax situation is pretty simple and it shouldn't take long at all to either do TurboTax or even hand file and 1040EZ. Why are you opposed to doing it yourself?

I always feel so guilty no matter what I do.

I just feel so cucked no matter what I do. I studied applied maths today because I feel like a cuck for not knowing enough and while doing it I felt like a cuck for not doing something that would immediately lead to money. I feel cucked for sitting at home and I feel cucked being in busy places near Chad and Stacey couples. If I work hard then I feel cucked because other people are successful without hard work. If I use my intuitions to judge what's worth doing, and I trust my intuitions, there are people ready to call me a pleb because I haven't read ten trillion boring books or learnt about boring and trivial topics.

Why compare yourself to others who have been dealt a different hand than you? Life can always be worse. Focus on what you can change instead of what you can't. Every second stressing the past or the future is a second wasted in the present.

How do companies and employers view veterans? Do they just see "muh military", or does what you've done while serving matter (whether technical skills, leadership roles, etc)?

I've seen time and time again that companies view veterans favorably, whether or not this is for PR is another matter. But for those of us who've joined in peace-time, and especially those in the combat-arms (literally no civilian equivalent skills), we really have nothing to show for it, some not even a deployment. I can put down "experience in team-building and leadership, etc" but when it comes to it, I wouldn't be able to draw upon any real examples outside of day to day garrison life.

It's good if you're a bottom of the rung type. I work as a storeman in Aus, driving forklifts and so forth, and my employer kind of made a fuss over how I was in the Navy. A lot of employers I've had have had the same attitude; people seem to be a little impressed by it. You and I both know that peace time militaries are basically welfare rides, but they don't. Plus I believe ex military, even peace time, have a different way of carrying themselves compared to civvies.A little more gravitas, dare I say it? People pick up on that shit. But yeah, I'd rather have a trade or a uni degree any day compared to 4 wasted years as a radar operator.
>>
Employers are looking for people who show up on time, don't complain, don't miss days and just get the job done. Discipline is kinda stupid hard to find in the gen pop today. Vets are literally programed for it.
>>
Depends. Just being a vet gets you:

-General points on your hiring application, particularly for federal jobs
-Access to the GI bill to go to college for four years
-A degree of respectability

Your job within the military may or may not get you:

-Secret/Top Secret clearance that remains current up to one year after you leave
-A skillset that qualifies you for an outside job, including technical certs
-Qualifications like a Merchant Marine license depending on what job you work

Basically it's up to you what you want to do. You can do something that doesn't translate well outside of the military like infantry and just take your hiring points and GI Bill, you can do something that preps you for a white collar job in the Federal Government or a private corporation like Intelligence, or you can do something that preps you for a blue collar trade like welding or motor pool. It's up to you.
