Bro, not cool. He was asleep.
I have a black lab who won't bark at the door when he wants to come in, only scratch. How do I train him so he starts barking?
Well, one way would be to not let him in when he scratches.
Because you let him in when he scratches, he learns that the way to get let in is scratching the door. He thinks that's what you want because it's what you reward/reinforce with what he wants (getting let in.)
So, in order to break his habit of scratching and train a new behavior, you have to stop reinforcing his scratching. Don't let him in when he scratches, no matter how much he does it. In the beginning, he'll scratch and scratch and scratch because he doesn't know why it's not working--it's worked all the previous times so maybe he just needs to do it more, he figures. But eventually he will learn that scratching doesn't work anymore, and he'll stop.
That said, in the process of him scratching the door and you not letting him in, he will no doubt get frustrated. It's not uncommon for a dog who is frustrated to whine/bark. If you can get him to bark on his own because he's frustrated, training it will be easy--as SOON as he barks/makes noise, let him in. Keep doing this and he will figure out that barking = getting let inside.
You could also train him how to bark on cue, and then cue him to bark before letting him in each time. In either case, if you do not want him to scratch the door anymore, you should never let him inside when he's just scratching the door.

OK thanks. It's kind of weird because my family had a dog that always knew to bark when we were younger and now our two new ones don't bark at all.
>>2192478
Eh, different dogs are more bark-y than others. Since your dog was more inclined to try scratching first, and he learned that scratching worked to get let in, he never had reason to try barking instead. If you teach him that scratching doesn't work anymore, you should be able to teach him to do a different, preferred method. Dogs are smart. If a behavior works to get them what they want, they will repeat it!
found this skull today, any one know what animal it is from?
>>2192391
That is a 64 million year old brown recluse skull
Looks like the jaw of a rodent to me. Maybe a rat?

It's one of these.

Hello /an/, my family and I are putting our Boxer to sleep tomorrow due to Kidney Failure. She's only 5 and a half years old. Please post good vibes
I'm sorry, OP. I'll have to do the same to my long haired dauschaud, Cosmo very soon. He also has kidney failure. Hopefully our dogs meet in the next life.
Pic related: my boy
All my love anon, it will be hard but you are doing the right thing by your dog. And she will always be in your heart.
>>2192354
You've also got my love sent your way too anon. Have strength, you are doing the best thing for your friend even though it hurts. But they are always with you in your heart and memories and hopefully one day we can be reunited with our pets when our lives are over.
Hello, animals on 4chin. Can you tell me what breed this little fucker is?
>>2192102
>felinus mixxus
Domestic shorthair, or mutt cat.
My cat digs her litterbox so violently I sometimes wake up at night because of the noise. How the fuck do I make it stop?
I think she sometimes goes there just to annoy me. She digs for like a minute or two. I have no other cats and make sure to keep the box clean every day. The type of litter does not make any change.
kill the cat
>>2192016
Any way to make it stop without killing the cat?
Cat also scratches my walls and jumps on the kitchen counter despite my efforts to ban such behavior. I feel like she wants to ruin my life.

Kill the litter box.

But what is this face trying to convey?
talk about grooming products/techniques
do deshedding shampoos/conditioners work well? my dog has lots of dead fur (undercoat and top coat) and brushing gets it out but its a very slow process, i'd like to speed it up a bit
>>2191718
Just use a furminator, once a week for shorthaired dogs, 2-4 times a week for longer hair dogs and Spitz.
>>2191805
I've heard that those can break the guard hairs on some coats. I don't want to risk it. Plus they're crazy overpriced for what it is.
I'm thinking of trying their shampoo and conditioner though.
I work in a shelter and we use this for dogs with thick fur. Its called a shedding blade and it works AMAZING for pulling out dead hair. On shorter haired dogs we use this thing called a zoom groom, it's just a rubber brush but it's really good for pulling out those fine hairs
Guys I just caught a really deformed robin. Does anyone know what I should do.
I don't think it's ever flown and on leg looks clubbed
What do they eat.
become Batman and Robin
Take it to a wildlife rehab.
I know this should go in the qtddtt but looking for some attention
My german shepherd pup (six months) got very bad diarrhoea a few days ago and I just put it down to him having a sick stomach .
>then he started throwing up all his food
>is not drinking as much as usual
>has vomited water even (frothy white)
>has yellow in the whites of his eyes and his gums look jaundiced
>very dark urine
He hasn't eaten properly in three days , he looks skinny as Fuck
On the other side he is in good form and still happy looking and active
The vet put him on 2.courses of antibiotics and gave him an injection , now waiting on blood results
The vet thinks it's something wrong with his liver because of the jaundice
Really worried here /an/ anyone here had similar experience ?
Pic unrelated
Was he vaccinated? Sounds sorta like parvo. Though if your vet rules out parvo, I'd also say something with the liver. Or kidneys.
>>2191589
I asked the vet about parvo and he robbed it off , also told him that the guy I bought him off said he was vaccinated , chipped etc I got the registration sent to me in my name but he didn't send the vaccination record , the vet reckons he didn't vaccinate and is bullshitting me
Guys, is it animal cruelty to torture insects? For instance, if a little bug was annoying me, and I scooped it into and empty water bottle, screwed the lid on, and sat down and watched it walk around looking for a way out, could I get in trouble? Hypothetically.
>>2191449
No. It's a hobby to stick pins through their abdomens and keep their carcass behind glass. Most people don't give a shit about insects.
The bastards deserve it anyways
>hurr I'm just gonna buzz around the fucking giant nothing can go wrong
No, even film makers can kill actual insects in movies without repercussion.
What kind of bird is that?
>>2191418
a qt birb
cute lil nigga
Indigo bunting male. Pretty little birb
what is this bullshit?
they feel, have memories and obviously have character.
>>2191050
It's so they can justify eating animals. No I'm not a vegan that's just the main reason why I've heard that reasoning.
Because:
1. Anthropomorphizing animals is a thing that many people do.
2. Souls aren't real.
I wouldn't even say that people have souls.
Religion is dumb.
>tfw you don't have as many rights and freedoms just because humans have more neurons
I caught a black grown-up pigeon(?) that was failing to lift off in front of my window. Must be injured or gotten too old or something.
It now sits in a cat transportation box with a towel covering it so hopefully the bird can relax. (It didn't move an inch while I took pic related; hope I didn't scare it to death.)
What do I do now?
Can you take it to a veterinarian?
There could be all sorts of things wrong with it...disease, injury, nutritional deficiency...the list goes on.
Pigeons tame easily and make good pets. But if this one is injured or sick it might require medical attention.
We called a local animal protection organization (Tierschutzverein) and they'll send someone to pick it up tomorrow, so all is fine.
Would have loved keeping a bird for once but don't really want to put in the effort so it's better this way.
Since you're only keeping it overnight, just keep it covered.
I've heard pigeons make great pets if you're interested. They're not very expensive (Get a large dog crate to keep them, use pads for diapers or they'll shit on everything you love. That's about it) they're not as noisy or destructive as other birds, they're pretty easy to tame and they're adorable. Would recommend.
