Hey, an, I'm interested in getting a cat but I'd like to bottlefeed and raise it from a kit so it'll bond to me. The humane society is too strict about whom they allow to take on kittens (how am i gonna pay for kits if don't work? lol) so they're not an option.
Basically my plan is to attract a pregnant or nursing queen and then foster it's kits until they're old enough to be adopted out and only keep the one that seems most bonded to me.
How do I attract a pregnant or nursing queen to nest? Is there any way to attract one without attracting every cat in the immediate area?
>inb4 thts dum op. Do this instead. toxoplasmosis. fiv. adopt. etc.
They'll be properly taken care of.
Why would you want to bottlefeed a cat?
>>2193022
Because I'd be helping curb the number of cats on the street and helping new life flourish.

So you're a pervert
Pls identify plant, anon

hey guys, so i have a dachsund, hes about 16 years old and for the most part in pretty good shape. hes starting to walk a little funny on his back legs but from what i can tell hes not in any pain what so ever. the problem is that hes starting to lose control of his bowels. like he doesnt even know hes pooping when he walks. i have a nice pen for him and my other dachsund and hes starting to stink up my apartment. my fiance wants me to put him down. i dont even know what im asking here i just want others opinions. hes been my best friend since i was 8 and i know his times coming up here but i cant imagine bearing the pain of putting him down for no good reason.
>>2192843
>16 years old
Is it normal for a dachshund to live this long?
My mini is 10 and she acts like she's still a few years old
>>2192847
well my dad had one before i was born and she lived to be about 19 if i do recall. its just genetics and how you treat them i guess
Does this mean, during these dates it is legal to kill this animal? I am new to hunting and such
>>2192807
Because im having some trouble with a squirrel
Those dates apply to hunting seasons. You need a permit to hunt, even in 'Bama. If you just need to get rid of one pesky squirrel in the back yard, you should legally be in the clear if you use a non-lethal trap.
>>2192807
>Does this mean, during these dates it is legal to kill this animal?
Yes, if you have a hunting permit. If that isn't crystal clear to you from this simple chart, I'm not sure you should be handling a gun.
(tl;dr: Are there any kind of black flies known to have a stringer and bite people?)
Anyone have any kind of idea where this might have come from?
I was bit by a very large black fly earlier in the day, then around 4 hours ;ater at a different location the same size kind of fly stung me in my upper arm (pic related)
I am thinking that this may have come from some weird pheromone thing similar to wasps, as the second attack was completely random (the first, I swatted the fly and provoked it).
I've never had inflammation of this kind before, and where the original fly bit me, on my finger, it has bloated up to the point that I can't even make a closed fist. The stinger of the second fly was stuck in me about 2cm (half an inch)
sounds like horse fly is in town
>>2192750
I was thinking that at first, as I used to live in Alaska and Maine and they were a pain in the ass in the summer with their bites; but i never heard of them actually stinging a person before, and beyond that I am in the UK and thought horseflies in general didn't exist over there. The thing was definitely the size of a horsefly though, maybe even 1.5x their size
>>2192748
You are as fat as a horse and the fly made a mistake, such things happen when you have +30% bodyfat
I study snakes. Ask me anything pertaining to pet snake care, wild snakes in your area, identification, hot (venomous) snakes, etc.

Why don't you start a thread with some pics of the cool ass snakes you get to work with?

Hello /an/imal lovers.
I was cleaning my pool today when I found a small ring necked snake. He felt cold and I like reptiles so I caught him and put him in a travel aquarium from when i had a gecko.
I still have all the stuff from my gecko so I was wondering if you could keep these snakes as pets.
Also the snake in pic is not it, but i will upload pics if you guys want.
>>2192662
if you want a pet snake, buy a captive bred one
>>2192665
Why spent 50 dollars for a snek i will need to by 100s of dollars worth in tanks and equipent when this snek will be small enough for my terrarium
not trying to be cheap its just
>>2192669
Wild snakes aren't for you especially if you're going to keep it in a travel sized tank.
I have a 200l tank, plenty of filtration. I'm looking to get blue acaras and fire mouth cichlids. I've been told 2 acaras and 3 fire mouth would work well together, but I'm not 100% confident. If anyone could give me some advice I'd really appreciate it :)
Yes. But if they breed there will be aggression issues. Have plenty of hiding spots and what not.
Okidoky, thanks for the advice. I have loads of wood, rocks and plants '3'
>>2192654
Cichlid breeder here.
>>2192683
Is true.
They need a lot of different areas.
Cichlid translates to "rock fish".
What looks good to you doesn't mean its good for them. They want areas they can defend and hide. So being visible isn't a good thing.
Acaras are dicks BTW. But I guess so are fire mouths (never dealt with them personally).
Most cichlids- well all really, are territorial and aggressive.
The secret to a successful tank is having sacrificices.
Find someone who will sell you neon tetras cheap.
Just because they look cool and are cleaner than goldfish. Buy a school of 20, when they're gone buy some more. This will keep the cichlids busy. And rearrange the tank if fights seem to be causing any bodily damage.
BTW, piranha are cichlids.
/an/, i've noticed something very peculiar the last couple of weeks. I work in a warehouse and hence have the been granted the unfortunate luck of being greeted by at least a dozen of spiders every week.
And tides seem to have turned against them. 9 out of 10 spiders i've seen last month exhibited this weird anomaly on their hind legs. Either both or one of the legs seem to be underdeveloped. And because of this, the seem to become really clumsy having to sort of drag their body forward along walls.
And this is where it gets weird. This is not isolated to my warehouse. First time i noticed the deformity was when i was just about to evict a spider from my bedroom, and pic related is currently residing in my bathroom after having been discovered by me 5 minutes ago.
I can only conclude by the sheer number of deformed cases that it has become a statistical impossibility for it just being me 'primed' to find sick spiders while ignoring the normal healthy ones.
I plan on bringing my camera to document more deformations at work.
In the meantime. Wtf is happening to the spiders /an/? Has anyone else noticed this? Anyone know what might have caused this?
>>2192641
Here a slightly different angle of bathroom spider.
What makes you think that's a deformity?
>>2192641
I'm not sure about the species(although it's probably some kind of orb weaver), but I've seen lots of them lately. They're probably juveniles in the middle of ballooning season.
Hey /an/
We are going to adopt an American Akita,
What are we in for?
pic related
>>2192531
From what breeder?
My uncle adopted one as a pup, and it bit his hand to the bone. Also bit his wrist and shoulder on different occasions, but those only required stitches. American Akitas have been bred to absolute shit and back, niggers use Akitas in Akita/Akita mix only ,dog fighting now and use them as protection because of how easily aggressive they are and how giant they are, and they look even bigger with the fluff. So most Akitas you come across will be shit medically and behaviourally. they are already difficult dogs, but depending on the breeder, your job could be a lot fucking worse.
>>2192551
He has a passport, comes from a family with a kid and he is small for his breed, only 28 kilos.
We visited the family last week, was a nice meeting, walked the dog and he was very playfull and loving. he had all his vet check registered and documented and he's very healthy from what i can make from the documents.
Without very good, early socialization, they can become dangerously aggressive. Also, they tend to be rather aloof and stubborn, thus hard to train. They are also notorious for really bad resourge guarding.
This shark is somewhere between two and five hundred years old.

So is literally everyone on this board. What does he want, a medal?
>>2192496
wow, rude
look at that shark face
of course it wants a medal.
>>2192487
>somewhere between two and five hundred years old
That's not really narrowing it down very much. If you need a 300 year sliding scale maybe you're just bad at your job.
hi /an/,
first time posting here.
I grew up in rural southern Austria, a very quaint area that's mostly mountains and woods.
I read on here that keeping cats outside for most of the day is about the worst thing you can do to them.
My family always had cats (among other animals) and all of them were kept outside. This is normal here and the felines in this area all seem fine to me.
I don't know much about animals tho and now that I'm an adult I don't wanna repeat my parents' mistakes.
So what's the deal with outside cats?
TL;DR: I'm an ingnorant ass and don't know why keeping cats outside is bad.
Basically, they're terrible for native wildlife, they're vectors for very problematic parasites and are also good at hiding the ill effects of said parasites and diseases.
>>2192454
Not to mention the fact that if you actually care for your animal you won't just let wander unattended. Outdoor cats are stray cats and stray cats are free game for killing.
>>2192454
Specially in Australia cats can be a problem.
Not to mention if you've had outdoor cats, you've probably noticed they get injured or killed sometimes. They get into fights with other cats, fights with dogs, they get ran over, come back with damage of mysterious origins, they disappear...
