A 401k can be used without penalty to buy a first home (and a few other things, like medical expenses), so it's not a bad place to sock money away even at your age.

Yep. Investing it isn't going to yield that much of a return either. Plus you won't get to enjoy any of it for awhile.

Personally, I would just put it in a checking account and use maybe a grand or two on stuff you want then spend the rest of it very very sparingly and have it as mostly a rainy day fund.

If shit gets bad enough you can always go around the back of bakeries and grocers to the bins (not as bad as starving). They tend to throw out a lot of food that's in good condition.

I used to go to this volleyball place. You could show up alone, write your name on a card and others would join your team. I started going there with others but I quickly realized I could just go alone and meet new people every time.

Sorry, I should have mentioned in the OP post that I suck at all team sports. Like, to the point where it's almost comical, and I just get scared and get really anxious and make it worse for myself. I used to do that with Basketball and Volleyball, but I stopped after being kindly asked to leave several teams/groups for being too bad.

you're not alone in feeling the way you do. unfortunately modern society doesn't provide many means of escaping from it.

if you're willing to live ascetically for a few years and save money, you might be able to buy land somewhere remote and live off the grid. not many people do it, and I doubt they all succeed. it means basically never having anything "nice" again unless you make it yourself or become an expert dumpster diver.

start learning how to make everything from scratch: food, furniture, tools, anything you think you might need to live. learn how to farm. also learn some handy trades that will let you earn money doing odd jobs, because even if you make and grow everything yourself, you will still need to pay property taxes and have a bit of money for emergencies.

I have been thinking of doing this for years, but I have always been too chicken to try it. and now that I am disabled and married to another disabled person, idk if it would ever work. I hope you have the courage to at least try while you can.
