I see two reasons for this. 1, you're doing it wrong, and manage to fuck up relationships. Or 2, you aren't comfortable accepting what is implied with a meaningful relationship.

A meaningful relationship is a different thing for each person, and to me it's a matter of trust and truth. Between my best friend and me, I always tell him the truth and trust him to do the same. However, you might have different criteria for what a meaningful relationship is. When you have defined what a MR (meaningful relationship) is to you, then you can go out seeking MR's, granted that the criteria don't make you uncomfortable.
