The Sega Dreamcast is released with this controllet plus second analog and shoulder buttons in March 2000 worldwide priced competitively at $249 against the $299 PS2. How does it fare?

Not very well because the controller looks like crap & no DVD player.
>>
>>4199071
Even when ps2 launched it still didn't have second analog features in many games. When halo came out, it was already too late for the dreamcast
>>
if it came out later with the same specs it'd be nogames and sink even harder

Should I buy a complete-in-box, like-new copy of Persona 2 Eternal Punishment for PS1 for ~$100? It has the bonus disc, too.

For that system, the games *are* hardware.

Do you only hoard disc based games? Else you're going to hard hardware anyways.

This is one of the better action rpgs on the NES. Just picked it up and it's quickly becoming one of my favorite games on the NES. It's challenging, but it's greatly entertaining. The music is awesome, and the colors and graphics are great.
I love how the different gangs have their own uniqe traits and personality quips. They're not all pallete swapped clones.
Long, complex password system besides, I think it's a great game.

Let's discuss the retro ports/remakes on this thing. I'm talking about the Classic NES series, Mario Advance series, A Link To The Past, Kirby: Nightmare In Dreamland, the classic Final Fantasy games, Donkey Kong Country, etc. I am interested in comparing and contrasting the remakes and ports with the original versions.

This is NOT a veiled GBA thread. Please do not post about non-retro GBA games. Take that shit to /v/

Are these any good? Are there any major differences between these and the NES versions?
Also, does Super Mario Bros have the awful screen crunch issue that Super Mario Deluxe had, or has that been fixed?
>>
Most GBA ports have awesome cool extras but the cropped screen, inferior graphics and inferior sound means we'll never have a definitive version of many of the games you listed.

ALTTP has a new translation which I don't like though it "fits" better now with OOT now. The annoying young link sounds are horrible but the extra stuff is sweet..

Mario Advance series features cropped screens but in some cases like in SMB3 and SMW2 extra levels. Unique Luigi and whatnot, they're basically good versions of All-Stars but the original still have better control.

DKC trilogy added cool stuff though it didn't even add the extra stuff of the GBC DKC port, the graphics look like ass and it's even more difficult on the GBA.

Nightmare in Dreamland IMO lost something, I prefer the NES version.

Classic NES? They seemed like faithful ports but maybe they're cropped? are they emulated?

FF games had better translation but cropped screens.

Final Fight One: Did not end up being the definitive FF game, also Two and Three never came out, thanks for teasing us with the title Capcom.

Super Street Fighter II Turbo Revival: Games had a glitch and instead of recalling them Crapcom discontinued the game. Game played decent counting it was missing two buttons, the new artwork was cool but I didn't like the new stages some of the characters got, but best SF port up to that point.

Aero the Acro-Bat: Decent port and you could save your game making it a bit better even with the shrunken screen and bad sound, though you had cutscenes to "Make up" for this. the sequel and spin-off ports were sadly cancelled.

Contra Advance: A mix of SNES and Genesis Contra levels, kind of short but as long as you don't expect a perfect port of SNES's The Alien War and just fun Contra levels from two different games on a portable then you'll enjoy it.

Namco Museum: You can choose to play pixel perfect which has the games like Pac-Man scroll (which is kind of neat actually, more challenging not knowing where the ghosts are) or "complete" version with smaller sprites, pretty cool, actually.

Pac-Man Collection: Decent ports of most Pac-Man games

Doom/Doom2 - Pretty awesome ports for GBA, though obviously inferior.

Mickey Magical Quest Trilogy: All decent ports, I personally love these games. Only the first game has extra stuff which makes it better than the original the others are basically just ports.

JJ2 was much better.

Now that Mania is finally out and the dust is settling fast, I think that we can finally declare Sonic 1 as the undisputed best entry in the series, the patrician's choice.
Sonic 2, 3, S&K, CD (yes, fuck you plebs who don't understand tansaku-platforming gameplay) are all great, classic games. And Mania is, well, it's what Classic fans wanted, it's exactly that. I don't mean it to be a derogative, but it is a glorified ROMhack. A beautiful, top-tier ROMhack, the best ever.
But man, Sonic 1... it's still the perfect game.

If you sat at your computer at the very beginning of the game, and read through everything on their and got some context to what was going on -- the orphanage twist wasn't so weird because there was propaganda against using GFs because memory loss, but they were bitched out by the staff of the center into being war machines

Stuck and so caught up in war they forgot they even grew up together
>>
>>4196801
the good old "they were all linked together by fate since the beginning" cliche

and by good I mean pure shit
>>
>>4196801
that's where i stopped playing the game because the story was so stupid. not to mention that i figured out the combat system early on and was killing things way too easily. i wasn't even "farming" or whatever you call it when you spend a lot of time buffing up your characters. you can practically get those limit breaks every single time you attack. also with the blond guy you can just alternate between left-right and down-up for endless damage each round. what a dumb game.

I've ran into problems with this game. My PC may be powerful enough to run modern games, but when it comes to running a retro game like Batman Forever The Arcade Game on MAME, it runs like shit.

Here are the issues...
>It's laggy as fuck, the frame rate is a nightmare.
>No sound.
>There are glitches with the animation. Isn't Batman suppose to be behind the Batmobile?

Yet I have no issues playing the PS1 version of this game on disc.

Are you telling me that a PC like mine, that can play modern games, can't run Batman Forever The Arcade Game properly? Yet my PS1 can on an actual disc?

>first page of results gives me "Please note that this game has no sound and is very broken due to bad emulation."
I can't believe you typed out all that shit without even bothering to google.
>>
>>4194670
What I can't believe is that this game runs better on my PS1 with no issues. So much for the "PC Master Race" movement. Can't get arcade emulation right.
>>
>>4194686
It's not like the PS1 could emulate this game.
If you want to emulate the PS1 version on your PC you shouldn't have any trouble.

Anyone like these games and which one is your favorit

Played first game, beat it, can't recommend it to anyone. Do you like third person shooters ala Resident Evil only with poor hit detection and janky gameplay? Do you enjoy having the action broken up by trial and error puzzle segments? Yeah, there's no reason to play these games.

I honestly dont see what makes above so much better than below honestly. I could maybe see with Mario Bros 3 since, while it isnt necessarily the best 2D mario game, it does seem to be the most different/unique. Not that I think the new series IS better, but I dont see how it's such a forgone conclusion to so many

But playing most of the 2D games (havent played NSMBU), I dont see how World is objectively better than any of the New games sans 2, which is definitely one of the weakest overal, I can at least admit.

Also unsure what makes people say the levels are uninspired other than them dropping unique art styles for each new 2D game (which was a mistake)

Unsure if comparison threads count on /vr/ but /v/ sucks
