Building my first MAME cabinet. I scored a Golden Tee '99 cab from a local thrift store for only $25! It didn't work, that's why they let it go so cheap. Got it home, plugged it in, nothing. Luckily it had the keys with it, opened the back, and the plug was disconnected from the power supply. Plugged that back in and it worked!
Digging around in the cab, which was just plain black, I saw that it started life as a Killer Instinct. Was stoked, but alas, all that artwork was destroyed when whomever in the past converted it to the GT'99.
Decided to try to strip the paint off, and lo and behold, the original artwork was intact! Ordered a new OE marquee and CPO, some Happ controls, etc. Making big progress on it, I should be up and running in just a few more weeks. I got a JAMMA to USB interface and an ArcadeVGA to drive the W-G monitor.

>Building mame
>going to gut cab
Well I don't like that. Original cabs/parts are getting harder and harder to come by not to ment-
>it's a golden tee
I have no problem with this
>oh shit! It's actually a KI!!
How cool is that? Congrats anon.
>still going to convert to mame
I hate you

I want to be able to play more than one game. So sue me. At least I'll still be able to play KI.
Honestly, I don't see what the big deal is. I'm restoring the cabinet back to it's former glory. The only thing I won't have is the actual KI Jamma board.
I'm not hacking it up at all. I actually saved it from being a wretched fucking Golden Tee. Besides, being Jamma, if I ever want to sell it as an original cab, go on eBay, get the board, plug it in and ride. It would take literally 10 minutes to do that, only because I'd have to re-wire the kick harness.
I just started playing Dungeon Master. Seems fun, but I am not very good at it. Any tips for someone new to the genre?
bump :(
>>4196957
just play it as far as you can get, then watch a complete play through on youtube, then call it a day
>>4197684
>watch a complete play through on youtube
Why would anyone ever do that?
tell me about the game gear, /vr/.
there has to be some obscure JRPG hidden gem on it, right? only good game on it that I know of that doesn't have a superior master system version is sonic triple trouble.
Megami Tensei Gaiden: Last Bible Special was recently translated for it. I haven't tried it yet but it looks pretty good.

Defender of Oasis
Very solid Arabian RPG. Good music and story.
Crystal Warriors
Fun Strategy game.
Shining force, sword of Hyja.
Madou Monogatari 1-3 and A.
>he doesn't play the superior European version of every game
>>4196773
That's a composite cable shader.
The PAL version is a joke. Even the music is unoptimized and runs slower, which shows how little effort was put into it considering most 8-16 PAL conversions, even if running slower, at least had the musics right.
>>4196773
that's not even what it looks like on a genesis
I thought sonic team learned their lesson while making nights into dreams that free roaming in a complete 3D environment is horribly disorienting and difficult to control which is why they eventually set it along a 2D plane? then why did every 3D sonic since go back to the free roaming shit?
Because sonic adventure worked
>>4196763
it didn't though
>>4196765
But it did.
face it:guybrush died at the end of MI2
>>4196728
Nah bro I'm pretty sure hedied at the end of MI3
>>4196728
Was it ever explained what the fuck Big Whoop actually was? I tried playing the Telltale games but found them painfully boring so I stopped by the second episode.
Not that it really matters anyway, since everything after 2 is just progressively worse fanfiction.
>>4196728
oh, you watched pur's video too ?
what is going on here
Are you using higan?
>>4196710
wow was that actually 3d?

This is the best Tetris version and you can't say otherwise.
OBJECTIVELY SPEAKING

>not Sega Tetris
Lad...
Whats wrong with the common NES version?
Am I emulating it right?
Well it's playing isn't it? So I guess you are

THere's a PC version idiot.
>>4196526
Nigger I want to play in Japanese and the Japanese PC version is hard to get.
Anyone else who's favorite game is generally considered bad or disappointing by most people?
I don't even bring mine up anymore most of the time because I'm tired of the same "how can you like that game?" and "that game sucked" comments.
>>4196516
Well, let's hear it OP.
>>4196517
Naming my favorite game would make this thread about that game. The point of the topic is having a favorite game that is generally disliked.
I like ff8 for its mechanics, tone rebellion, and chaos legion (not vr , though). All those games have fun systems, but feel unpolished to most people.
Well that was fast.
Now just wait 3 years for it to be produced & delivered, assuming it does at all.
Who are these people and why do they keep funding these crowd funding scams.
More like next gen Dreamcast/xbox controller.
Hey /vr
I just finished loading up RetroPie on an old and otherwise useless Microsoft Surface. I totally wiped out the Windows 10 OS and installed Ubuntu then added the RetroPie as well as Kodi and some other stuff. One of the best things that has been changed is the battery life went from about 3 hours with Windows to 9 hours with Ubuntu. Thoughts?
Not sure why the image got flipped
OK last time lol
>>4196271
Because you're posting on an iPhone, ya dingus
I just got an 8bitdo controller. What are some GameCube games I can emulate?
Hey guys,
Just wondering what your favorite games are that you can beat in one sitting, or just an afternoon.
Looking for some to play with a mate when he visits, preferably SNES games.
One of mine is Super Mario on Super Mario All Star.
cotton 2 and cotton boomerang on the saturn. ikaruga too
>>4196229
If PSX is an option, the original Resident Evil.
If SNES is what we've got, try Doom, Mario Kart, Street Fighter 2 or Final Fight 3.
>>4196229
Megaman X is a personal favorite of mine. I like the other two on SNES as well, but the first one is nice and simple, and I have all of it down solid. Good afternoon killer right there, even if final Sigma gives me some trouble here and there
Fuck Sega and Nintendo for baiting us with their new mini-consoles and then under-supplying to get all that free publicity for what turns out top be crappy little emulators in substandard casings. Wankers.
.
I'm buying a 3D printer to make my own. The only problem is I'm a tech-retard and I don't want to miss anything when build it.
So I was going to make either a scaled down original style Japanese Megedrive with a Mega CD unit underneath to put a hard-drive in, or a Japanese style snes and I'll design a mock cd unit for underneath, similar to the pic I posted.
What would /vr/ build?
What computer shall I install in it? rasberri pi or strip an old laptop (then I might also install some sort of flip out screen?)
Any and all advice welcome
>TLDR help me build my own mini console
>>4196072
Coleco Chameleon
>>4196078
fuck those guys too
If you just want a SNES/Gen machine then a Pi would do. Otherwise I'd build a mini-ITX PC with a proper case and maybe get some ornaments or shit made out of resin or plastic or w/e they use and paste them over the case if you really want that old console aesthetic. There's a big PC case modding scene and they've done things more far out than "old console", maybe google that stuff for inspiration.
