>Can only see ten feet ahead of you

Who designed this fucking thing?

Still one of the best platformers ever made.

Cliff Bazinga if i'm not mistaken

Jazz jack rabbit I played this game so much time. This is the best platformer of 90s
>>
>>4197129
JJ2 was much better.
>>
>>4197269
>tfw the 'community' won't release a 1080p patch because they fear 'hackers' despite the fact that everyone playing JJ is adult enough to not hack in a multiplayer game.
>>
>>4197269
Yeah but the first one had objectively better music. Mid-90s Epic games soundtracks simply can't be beat.

Just use Sega Atlas
>>
>>4197308
I actually don't remember the JJ1 music. Will check it out once I play through both games again.

>>4197304
Honestly they should just put all efforts into the open source port and just re-make both JJ1 and JJ2 levels, and make all assets high quality so it can properly scale to 1080p. Since I'm pretty sure the game is dead and nobody has the right to re-release it for profit until it's license expires, which will take a few decades.
>>
>>4198237
The game is abandonware so there's no legal trouble you could get in distributing it. Its license has long since expired. I personally want a 1080p patch so the game is zoomed out more. You can see more ahead of you. It's useful in a game were you go fast.
>>
>>4198824
You don't know what abandonware means. Copyright laws are still in affect.
>>
>>4198856
>there's no legal trouble you could get in distributing
If that is somehow incorrect feel free to correct me
>>
>>4197129
>>4197342
Lots of platformers ran into this problem, from what I remember. Bubsy had it as well.

It was especially bad on low-resolution things like Gameboy...like 80% of Gameboy games had the "you can only see 5 feet in front of you" issue.

>JJ community is so insular they care more about their dead MP than the SP people that actually play the game.

Do they realize that there are far more people that play SP for a nostalgiatrip than MP these days?
>>
>>4198932
last time I heard the mp is still active
>>
>>4198824
So why isn't this made? Other than "cheating in multiplayer" and the fact that levels weren't designed for this (you'll definitely see the level cut off into the background not very smoothly if you zoom out too much). And it would hardly be cheating if everyone is using it. It's not as if it would be a literal maphack.

Honestly all it needs are high quality textures and widescreen support (4 more visible blocks on left and right)

>>4198824
>>4198894
>no legal trouble
That's not even the issue. Remaking the game in a non-dead engine would result in a much superior game especially for modern machines. All bugs and issues could be fixed on the fly without having to turn the game into a frankengame with unofficial patches and hoping everything works. It's just easier to fix a game when you have full source access and to improve upon it. Not to mention the game had a shit draw distance and wasn't made for large screens so even if a FHD mod was made it would be shit.
Either remaking it or getting the source of the latest official build is what would genuinely revive the game.

>>4198937
There's less than 100 people active though.
>>
>>4197129
Jazz 2 is a much better game simply because it supports much bigger resolutions, so you can simply see further ahead.
>>
>>4199128
Which also makes it easy as fuck even on the hardest setting.
>>
>>4199271
It's easy because of bugs too, vid related.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fikev1WuAC8

But too zoomed in games are shit. They were only like that due to hardware limitations back then, thankfully claustrophobic people can now play games too. That's why I'd love it if some games were remade with a bit zoomed out camera.
>>
>>4199279
Even ignoring the glitches, Spaz' movement was genuinely broken and you could use his double jump in tons of levels to reach Jazz-only areas.
Using Jazz was next to pointless and it felt like the game wasn't really properly balanced and playtested.
>>
>>4199320
That's why I never even used Jazz. I played him once and tried out Spaz. Never again played Jazz at all. The game should've been called Spaz Jackrabbit. Double jump is overpowered on any platformer.
To be fair the WR for Jazz is only a minute behind so it's not that big of a deal in single player. In MP Spaz is overpowered.
>>
>>4199342
>Double jump is overpowered on any platformer
Super Ghouls and Ghosts says hi.
>>
I like these threads, its a refresher course on why PC developers can't design games for shit.
>>
>>4199351
all the these problems mentioned here also happened in sanic
>>
That's really funny because the original Jazz Jackrabbit has ALL the flaws that modern hipsters say that Sonic the Hedgehog has. Narrow field of view, Jazz running into shit, etc...

The only difference is Jazz has been forgotten but it's cool to shit on Sonic.

I love both though.
>>
>>4198237
>I actually don't remember the JJ1 music. Will check it out once I play through both games again.

Sweet, I get to post this again:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lq_pEV5tpJ8

Robert Allen is the unsung hero of video game OSTs. Should be worshipped alongside David Wise and Alexander Brandon.
>>
>>4197342
>>4199702
The big difference is that in Sonic you can spin your way through anything that's coming to you in front of you, but in Jazz you really can't do much besides just taking it.
>>
>>4200267
And that's one of the reasons sanic is a bad game
>>
>>4199702
>>4200267
>flaws according to casuals shitter.
>>
>>4200437
Really? Since in Sonic you can do something to defend yourself from such cheap shots, wouldn't this make Jazz the bad game?
>>
>>4200443
>do nothing but hold a single direction and press jump button without having to worry about getting hurt
Yeah, no. Sonic is a terrible game itself. It doesn't deserve the popularity it has.
>>
>>4200451
I honestly think Mario's a terrible game as well for similar reasons in that most of the enemy design is so simple and nonthreatening that you might as well just jump over/fireflower everything and even if you get hit, implying you have a mushroom with you, you're still allowed more time to rethink your steps and defeat the enemy. Crash is honestly better than both of them honestly. inb4 muh momentum
>>
>>4197173
lmfao cucked by his own shitty photography skills.
>>
>>4197173
I thought it says "CIIRV".
>>
>>4200458
I agree that crash is better, but it has an edge of it's game being made much after the original sonic and mario. It also legitimately killed all kart games of the era because imho CTR was far better than the mario kart or anything released after it.
But honestly I liked mario more than sonic, at least the originals. I found the flow of the game better. It just felt more like a platformer where you at least have some decision making while sonic felt like a racing game where you'd shut off your brain and hope for the best. But it's just a personal preference, I like my platformers a bit slower.
>>
>>4198856
Abandoneware is kind of a foolish idea but supposedly it means that as long as the company who produced it isn't "using it" by rereleasing it, remaking it, etc. it's okay to pirate or make derivative works. It's not so much a legal term as it is a justification.
>>
>>4200480
>It just felt more like a platformer where you at least have some decision making
True. But I think it's also where Crash excels as well. While it does show some Sanic influence on some parts (mostly in the visual department), I find a lot more akin to Mario in the gameplay department where both the stage and the enemies count as obstacles you gotta overcome. Now taking this into account, I'm going to openly backpeddle a bit and admit my previous claim was loaded as fuck. Even the Mario games (yes, including the modern ones to a degree) still have a decent sense of challenge that makes for a wealth of replayability. Both are still way above Sanic though.
>>
>>4200480
>I like my platformers a bit boring
nice.
That explain a lot about your taste in kart game too.
>>
>>4201005
It's literally the best kart game. Name a better one, I'll wait.
>I like racers instead of platformers
Your opinion about platformers is shit.
>>
>>4201704
>It's literally the best kart game. Name a better one, I'll wait.
Wacky Race
Mario kart
Looney Tune racing

And that's just keeping it retro.

Sure, she was kind of sloppily programmed and had a poorly-chosen moveset, but she also looked cute, sounded cute, was well animated, and that spin kick attack of hers made her fun to play to boot.

Lori was the first fictional character my adolescent self wanted to fuck - or, as I imagined from her general appearance and voice, the first fictional character I wanted to fuck me.

limited fow is kind of good for 2d games since your view isn't obstructed by anything and at 1080p you can see what's coming at you by a mile

see diablo 2 - 1080p patch made bow and magic classes broken

These fucking games piss me off, they all are clunky shitty and unfun. Donkey Kong Country is a grand example but not the only.

To be fair this game would look ridiculous with that much resolution. You can arleady see a lot on the screen.
>>
>>4202806
I'd settle for 480p or something. Maybe just enough for a widescreen.

What's wrong with jj2 level design? Other than a few exploitable parts where you can skip most of the level.
>>
>>4197129
this game was EPIC i also love DOOM XD
>>
>>4205069
You are quite right, it was made by the game company Epic. And yes, Doom is a pretty great game and stands out even today.

Well said!

OP look into a game called Ms.Splosion Man.
Not /vr/ but you will be surprised how good it fits your desires.
