I've been collecting for years now, and I've noticed all these Midway Arcade compilations floating around.
>Already own Super Smash TV, Rampage for the NES, and Gauntlet for the NES as well.
Would it just be more afficant to buy the Midway and Namco collections? Or just get the ports of the games I really want?
>>4199283
For collecting purposes, just get whatever you care about "owning" if that's your thing. Otherwise none of the above. save your money by not buying these oft-poorly emulated compilations and get yourself mame and some roms, and an arcade stick for extra fun points. Some of these compilations play well to be honest, but there's always someeeeeeething off about them, the sound, colors, brightness, screen cropped weird, the list goes on.
Get mame and an arcade stick and be happy, if you want to go even further get a pc crt monitor or even an arcade monitor.

I liked the Taito Memories Japanese releases from a collector's standpoint. The materials booklets were fun.
I also recommend at least checking out Namco Museum on emulator or PSN - the exhibits are fun, and it's sad that something like that was never done on 3DS (well, aside from Sega 3D Ages to a degree).

The controls on the Midway Arcade collections always felt a bit "off" to me. Personally, I say just take the ports, Pac-Man on the NES is just perfect. Same goes for Roadblasters on the Genesis.
Who here owns arcade PCBs? And dedicated cabs?
No cabs because my place is pretty small but I have a few PCBs, fun hobby if you're patient.
I've got a Killer Instinct 2 cabinet that is currently running Golden Tee '99.
I'm in the process of fixing that fucking glitch though.
I have a Neo Geo 1-slot that I use with a supergun, does that count? I don't have any single-use boards but I'm hoping to expand later on when I have some money
So, I'm thinking of modding this game to have English-translated text. The problem is, I'm new to modding games. What's the best way to mod a game? Any advice would be appreciated
>>4209943
Hex editing, disassembly, and a fuck ton of alcohol. The better solution is to translate it, and wait for someone that can actually do that for you to come along.
From what I've seen this game doesn't use compression, which is always a big plus. The game also has a good amount of English already in place, another plus.
The question is if the text is stored as TIM or if it uses a table for its Japanese characters as things could get ugly, requiring a variable width font for you to be able to insert a proper script.
Anyway, if you want to translate it, I think you can already start by transcribing what Japanese you see in menus and dialogue and then look for help with the hacking side of things.

What is a TIM?
Any other unreleased games out there worth playing? Only ones I can think of this and Star Fox 2, though that will officially release next month so I'm not sure it even counts anymore.
Suppose this can be a general unreleased games thread too.
Bioforce Ape is pretty cool.
Thoughts on Titan Warriors? Pretty fun IMO, not sure why it was left unpublished. I actually have a legit prototype of it
>>4199882
Sorry, this game, the unreleased NES title.
Having a lot of time to kill and access to the full TOS soundtrack, I started going through Star Trek Rites and replacing the midi music with the real score counterpart. At first the plan was to swap the music 1:1 but the game only uses about 10 TOS tracks, and I might add in some episode music as well.

Star Trek retro game general I guess
>>4197784
One of the most tedious parts of the project though is re-recording the game without any music. Theres plenty of longplays out there but with the music part of the video its useless to me
This is pretty impressive
>>4198504
Its a fun project, helped by the fact there's a talking version of the game, so it gives it a more realistic feeling. I probably wont do the whole game, since to record gameplay alone could take over 5 hours
Did anyone ever use this thing back in the day? I never did. I think the only game I had that made use of it was Pokemon Pinball and that was just to share high scores iirc.
Pokemon GSC had mystery gift. Sometimes you'd get rare dolls for your room or rare items. It had a five times per day limit though.
IIRC there was a 007 game that could send and receive IR signals so you could turn your GBC into a TV remote.
I used it a few times, but I can probably count them with both my hands.
For the Pokemon TCG game you could, "card pop", sadly finding a person who had both a GBC and the Pokemon TCG game was a bit hard so I never got all the "exclusive" cards from card pop.
I also used it with Pokemon Pikachu 2, which was the second edition of the Pikachu tamagotchi type device that also had the IR port to switch data with Gold and Silver.
It was a cool idea but it had very limited functionality, I remember thinking that with that we would be able to trade Pokemon and battle instead of the dreaded link cables but it obviously wasn't possible with that tech, I just didn't know.
>>4197728
I also tried to trade like that.

What are you playing?
I'm playing the instrument known as "your dick".
The arthur game with the ice cream

I went to school in early 90s and we played Math Blaster on the Tandys.
Hi guys. As you know for sure central and eastern europe didn't had nes but stuff called here famiclones (i.e Pegasus console). I also had one long time ago. Im looking for one game That i use to play but can't remember title, just some characteristics. Maybe you can help me.
Itss all just a bits i remember but maybe someone can figure it out.
>Japanese language
>plays kinda like metroidvania or ninja gaiden
>three characters with different weapons (might be more)
>part of a game takes place in mansion
>if one of your characters dies you can find them hidden in mansion to bring them back
Its not a lot but i cant remember more than that. Maybe someone here can help me

Sweet Home?
>>4196937
naah, i was told about this one before but my one had sideways view like marios or metroids
Sounds like Lupin the 3rd for Famicom, OP
Why do Americans still care about this shit when RGB-capable video monitors are fairly cheap in the US?
/vr/ americans are not representative of the whole country. Most 'normies' care about HDMI, component, or whatever else is current.
>>4209750
>/vr/ americans
It's them I'm referring to.
>>4209749
I've never used one before, think I got a model 1 Genesis that does S-video though I should try it out.
This is the best, most fun fighting game ever made.
Learning endless complicated combos is boring and tedious. You can actually play this one with your friends, and never once get rage
>>4209556
Played SoulCal 2 a bunch in the Navy. We had all three consoles between us so would switch up which version we played when we wanted to fight as Link, Heihachi or Spawn. Good times.
>>4209563
it's the best pick up game for social situations I've ever come across
I usually just leave it on if I have people round so they can kill each other for a bit between drinks
>>4209563
As a mariner, what was your opinion on Cervantes?
And why is it the Official Dreamcast Magazine (UK)?
By practically any objective criteria, EGM but many more specialized magazines had their own particular strong appeal
Sega Force was good for the edgy animu illustrations.
C&VG was good in the mid-late nineties when they were pretty much the only magazine who still gave a shit about Saturn, Jap imports, and the arcade scene.
I liked PC Gamer as a kid. Awesome demo disks and coverage of upcoming games.
What is the best Terminator game?

The one you just posted. Dat Godlike soundtrack.

T2 Arcade BY FAR
Technically, Journey to Sillius is an off brand Terminator game.
Post games where you can get out of cars and have your little guy run around. These games always intrigued me and I liked to roleplay with them. Am I autistic?
Bonus points if it is a game that came out before blaster master

SEGA Saturn General
Whoa. Just found out that mednafen emulates this system pretty well. What games should I play?
I got:
Daytona USA: Wow, this game sucks. Shitload of popups and jaggy ass graphics.
Fighters Megamix: Why are there 3 different versions?
Die Hard Arcade: Pretty solid port.
Shinobi: Haven't played it yet but heard some good things about it.
Games I plan on getting:
-Guardian Heroes
-Dragon Force
What games should I play?
>>4209182
Okay, seems there's an upgraded version of Daytona USA. Hopefully, that doesn't have such shitty popups.
What I coincidence, I just downloaded a couple of Isos:
-The cotton games
-Madou monogatari
-Magical Rayearth
-Sonic R
-shining force 3
-panzer dragoon
Would like some vn recommendations.
Also I think there were adult only titles on the saturn, would be interesting to try some.
Saturn Bomberman is the absolute best bomberman. You should definitely play it.

Notable changes,
-Title screen
-more text
-charge shot is no longer locks onto targets (makes the game much tougher)
-game over screen.
>>4208735
Never took the time to emulate the prototype
but is that really the only changes in the final release?
And doesn't modern SF games still have lock-on for charge shots?
>title screen
>ending screen
>more text
>removed a feature
I look forward to the day it finally gets dumped, and with the exception of those minor changes is shown to be a direct copy of the fan-hacked-together prototype that everyone already has.
>>4209021
Remember when the developer guy said the final version was sooooo much better
