Step aside, Doom guy, this kid has RADIUM plated boots!

Isn't radium radioactive? Kid's gonna get massive foot cancer.

has a neat soundtrack.
ITT: Games you've finished a hundred times but will never get tired of.
For me, the NES Castlevania games. It's honestly hard for me to believe some people prefer post-SOTN Castlevania.
My favorite Castlevania is Lament of Innocence. fyte me.
>>3982689
I've recently discovered playing SOTN on luck mode (weakened stats) with no equipment (except Alucard stuff for Shaft and Drac) and no save points (unless required) is actually a lot like classic Castlevania. You have to make careful use of your sub-weapons and limited healing capability, and you can only take a handful of hits.
But yeah, it's a shame that the two game formats haven't been able to coexist.
>>3982689
The first 4 are my favs but its hard to deny the appeal of the DS games and aria of sorrow.
How come no one is preserving PC releases? Look no further than MS-DOS, it's a complete mess.
>>3982219
>How come no one is preserving PC releases?
That is literately (not the meme, kiddo) the most well preserved platform as far as gaming is concerned. The only thing of note that is lost is many of the late50s to 60s and some 70s mainframe games.
Lots of people are, it's just that it pretty much has the largest amount of games since it's an open platform and everything. 90s Mac kinda suffers the same issues
>>3982228
I've never seen a place with a proper release like, let's say, darkwater is doing for the Sega Saturn. It's always a bunch of random sites on the web with dubious files.
No, but learning that clicking both buttons on a number clicks all adjacent boxes makes you 9x faster.

>minesweeper thread
We are truly scraping the barrel at this point, aren't we?
>>3982673
You'd be surprised, Minesweeper has it's own community. They even made a version just for competition so solvers couldn't be used.
Why in God's name is there no save or password feature? I know you can use warp whistles but if I want to play every single level I basically have to dedicate my whole day to it.
I think playing every single level should at least take you a day..
>>3981752
Just play it on snes
Problem solved
>>3981758
I did it a few years ago. It took four hours.
What gate did the arcade stick on old arcade cabinets have?
>>3981682
Square typically, believe it or not.
>>3981704
In diamond configuration or what?
>>3981804
Nope, just square.

Or is it overpriced shit?
>inb4 shills
>Win 10 is botnet.
They also made a better Unbuntu version, but that doesn't have a gamepad.
>>3981473
It's a comfy machine for gaming. If you can get it for 300 bucks it ain't overpriced at all if you consider the alternatives.
>They also made a better Unbuntu version, but that doesn't have a gamepad.
That's much bigger also and really not meant for gaming.
>>3981495
I found the /g/ thread. They hate it. Also 600 fuck loonix bucks.
>>>/g/60094920
>>3981473
Overpriced shit.
For the same money buy a nice CRT, a real system, a flash cart, and comfortable chair. Then sit down and play some old games in a way you can actually appreciate them and enjoy them instead of playing them as a mindless way to pass 20 minutes.
When you're out in public and bored spend your time looking around or talking to people. Leave the video games at home.
If you -must- play games in public just buy an old PSP.
Describe an old game that you can't remember the name of in hopes someone can tell you.
I never played it but I remember hearing about a SNES game in which you play as a firefighter. I believe it only got a European release. What was it called?
>>3981452
The Firemen?
>>3981458
Well that was kind of an obvious title.
Thanks, anon!
>>3981536
Now I like this kinda threads and all
but duderino I found that with one googling of "snes firefighting game"
What are some bad games that had a ton of ideas you really liked?
>>3981250
I've always liked Simon's Quest but I have to admit it's pretty lacking in some areas. Still, it hits so many notes that I love.
A sense of time passing, a big open world to explore and mysteries to figure out.
>>3981250
Super Hydlide
I've always liked Virtual Hydlide a lot but you have to both appreciate that rough 2.5D aesthetic AND the almost arcadelike mechanics so it's no surprise it gets shit on a lot.
I need some wallpaper material

Classic arcade flyer and magazine ad thread?
>>3978762
Wow, is GPI's logo shitty. The whole advert is great until your eye meet's their logo. Just looks like a logo someone would use who runs their business out of their garage.
bumping because these are the best threads

My first thought was a combination of "desert" and "torpedo". But then I realized what there was to make fun of.
Look back at it, Zuntata made some of the best stage transition/stage clear songs.

They made some of the best videogame songs, PERIOD.
Zuntata is great. I want to see them live but as time goes on the chance of doing so becomes ever smaller.

How do you feel about N64 game paks killing saves because of button batteries dying (some games) and eeprom write cycles exhausted? You have to solder on a new battery to get save functionality back.
This is partly the reason why I don't want to start collecting N64 games only for them to be near dead for saving.
It's exactly why I don't do physical collections - well that and counterfeit carts
>>3976552
This is hardly an issue on the N64. SNES however...
Even then, how hard is it to solder a new battery for the rare occurance it happens? People are just lazy
>>3976552
Replacing batteries is easy
Every time there's a post about crap like the NES Classic on sites supposedly used by technically literate people, like HackerNews or Slashdot, people say that they will gladly pay for it and SNES/whatever Classic because "setting an emulator up and downloading the games is too much trouble" and they "have jobs and little free time to do it".
How can IT professionals be about clueless about how easy and quick it is to emulate almost every single console and arcade game?
Not everyone's got the autism required to set up and run Retroarch.
>>3973475
its their job to say that even if it isn't true
>>3973479
Yeah there is this weird taboo around mentioning emulation, probably trying to avoid legal issues
