Breath was mistranslated as "Bracelet" in FFT. It has nothing to do with character limits.

It's not just the Dragon attacks that were effected. The Assassin's "Stop Bracelet", their instant kill attack was incorrectly translated. In the War of the Lions PSP release it was correctly translated as "Suffocate", which would be construed from the Stop Bracelet > Stop Breath > Suffocate.

That's actually pretty cool how wildly it got distorted. Of course if Japan didn't mangle English words and shorten them unnecessarily we wouldn't have the problem to begin with.

That makes me wonder if in the early stages of the PS1 translation, they were all translated as Breath and then changed later. There'd be no other logical reason for "Stop Breath" to get caught in the crossfire.
