ITT: best translation in retro vidya
>>3978394
My first thought was a combination of "desert" and "torpedo". But then I realized what there was to make fun of.
>>3978450
Oh if we're doing that then...
>full extent of the jam
Speaking of FF5...
>>3979002
Someone was having a giggle there, I see.
All your base are belong to us XD XD XD

That's not translation, they were called Assassin Cocks in Japanese too.
>>3979079
at one point I saw "MotorDrive" and thought that the translators completely lost it, but it's actually the real Japanese name.
>>3979002
This is way cooler than just having them be called generic boring wyverns.

>>3981489
It's a literal translation of Wyvern in katakana. It's a case of the translator being a fucking idiot who doesn't know even the most trivial things about mythology.
>>3981714
how could they misname a sai?
>>3981714
Are you autistic? That's what they are called you fucking retart.
>>3982909
They're called tonfas, you braindead mongoloid
>>3979002
>>3981714
SotN translators had a raging boner for tolkien for some reason
>>3978394
>player characters on the left
I could swear that in FFV they were on the right in battle
>>3979119
The music in this game is actually pretty catchy
>>3983075
they were ambushed, see how the jobs are in the wrong row?
>>3983083
I'm a fucking retard

PSX FF5 is the best to play with a friend because of the (unintentional?) hilarity.
>>3985662
Not that bad, you should see the original Breath of Fire
>>3985662
that one looks like a limit on characters, I'd say they handled it pretty well without expanding it
>>3985694
Breath was mistranslated as "Bracelet" in FFT. It has nothing to do with character limits.
It's meant to be
>Ice Breath
>Fire Breath
>Thunder Breath
>Holy Breath
It's not just the Dragon attacks that were effected. The Assassin's "Stop Bracelet", their instant kill attack was incorrectly translated. In the War of the Lions PSP release it was correctly translated as "Suffocate", which would be construed from the Stop Bracelet > Stop Breath > Suffocate.
Obligatory
My personal favorite
>>3985707
>Stop Bracelet > Stop Breath > Suffocate
That's actually pretty cool how wildly it got distorted. Of course if Japan didn't mangle English words and shorten them unnecessarily we wouldn't have the problem to begin with.
>>3985856
>>3985856
What's it supposed to be?
>>3985679
>breath translated as bracelet
>not that bad
Dude, that's still bad.
obligatory
>>3986493
Areiji, probably because it casts Arise on death
>>3985707
That makes me wonder if in the early stages of the PS1 translation, they were all translated as Breath and then changed later. There'd be no other logical reason for "Stop Breath" to get caught in the crossfire.

>>3978394

You know pixels are supposed to be square, right?
>>3987759
Sounds like you're the only square here, daddy-o.
>>3987759
Non-square pixels exist too.
>>3987759
I don't see the problem.

Left is Japan, Right is US.
