What path do I take to play some real ass Quake 3 Arena these days? Does anyone still play? Is there some kind of skulltagish server browser thing the community uses or anything I should know about? Where is the best place to acquire the game these days? I do not want to play live because it has no fucking mod support and thats ass.

Original Quake 3 is on Steam as well.
http://store.steampowered.com/app/2200/Quake_III_Arena/
I'm sure you can find a Steam group made of old-school players.
>>3999756
you can just pirate the original and play with quake3e or ioquake3 and put in "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa" as your CD key
most people play quake live though
>>3999847
>"aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa" as your CD key
Sure, that's a good advice for someone who only wants to play single player
Would you guys recommend Sim City? I've heard mixed reviews about it. Thinking about playing the SNES version if it's any good.
>>3998885
Sim City on the SNES is not fun. Play it on DOS.
It's one of my favorite. The music is very charming. It's more fun to play with the tons of money cheat, though maybe don't do that immediately. Once you hit metropolis level, it sort of gets slow. It's great though.
>>3998885
Sim City SNES is comfy as fuck but also dog slow. Same for Sim City 2000 on Saturn.
SNES Sim City has unique soundtrack which contributes greatly to its comfiness.
Beyond that, the PC versions are superior gameplay wise - though I find them to require way less effort because when you switch the game to turbo, you can let 100+ years ingame time go past in seconds, which takes out all the challenge.
Pic related is objectively the best way to play retro games on a CRT.
> Shadow Mask
> Can connect to PC or Wii
What else does /vr consider top tier?
Just god like
>>3998461
>objectively the best way to play retro games
sideways?
I've heard of people turning their monitors upside down but sideways seems a bit odd. Particularly since you didn't rotate the image as well.
Are there any snes emulators that don't have an insufferable amount of input lag?
turn off vsync, nerd
>>3998026
>People can play kaizo-like romhacks with Snes9x and others emulators no problem
>/vr/ blames 0,03 secs of inputlag as the reason they can't beat castle 1 in SMW
You guys just need to git gud.
Which versions of each of the Mario games would you say are the best? I don't know if I should get All Stars or play them individually. Is the SMW in All Stars the same?
Is there any point in beating this on a difficulty beyond hard mode for any other reason than bragging rights?
>>3997647
Maybe you'll enjoy it? I'm sure someone else has
>>3997647
Hard mode still isn't hard. Very hard isn't that hard and Crazy hard is assholish instant game over when hit. No mode really managed to get a proper the challenge right, it's either not hard enough or get a perfect.
crazy hard turns it into an entirely different challenge and nearly another game. You can't be sloppy anymore.
Stage 2 mid boss become the first real hurdle.
I absolutely loved crazy hard mode, made me really focused and attentive to details and patterns.
How is the nt
What is that thing, for starters
If you're not going for original hardware you're better off just emulating.

Was it autism?
If so, whose autism was it?
>>3994853
yours
>>3994853
I wouldn't even say it was autism. That was full on psychosis.

Is this another post about Andromeda? Can't we let it die and go away forever?
I LIKE TRAINS!
>>3991501
Edit Selphie out of the game and it changes nothing. She's that irrelevant.
>>3991509
Actually this. She's just the "lel so randum xD" comic relief character that still somehow manages to be unfunny. Every other character contributes to the story in some way except for her.
>>3991529
What does Irvine actually contribute?
Honestly the only character that's relevant and has character development is Squall....for the worse.
Where do you draw the line /vr/?

How are you gonna say collecting all the colors of the GBC is hoarding but collecting the colors of the N64 controllers is "collecting"? They're like the same size. I agree with those shitty mcdonalds toys though. Unless you have a strong attachment to them.
>>3991030
because you can play n64 with 4 controllers. You will never use that many GBC
The Western cover of RE1 comes from a prequel comic. The cover shows Richard Aiken, not Chris Redfield.
http://residentevil.wikia.com/wiki/Resident_Evil_(Marvel_Comics)
I always thought it was just a digitally manipulated photomosaic that just generally represented the game. Do you have a link to the comic?
Woah what a trip, just the other day I was going to post a thread asking if anyone knew what was up with RE1 cover. I always thought it didn't look like Chris and I always wondered why his eye is messed up looking. It almost looks like he's in the process of turning into a zombie himself. Anyway, thanks for clearing it up!
zero punctuation has a good video review of that cover.
Reasons why this is a shitty platform?
euros cant make games.
Look at the size of that beast.
It was a good platform though especially for RPGs.
Discussion about infinity engine, gold box games, etc.

I just finished an Eye of the Beholder runthrough. I like to use the default NPCs as my final group with an editor that fixed Beohram as a Paladin and Ileria as female.
Now the big question is which of those four do I take into EoB2?
>>3908920
This reminds me of a game I used to try to play a lot when I was a kid.
I think in that game the first area was like a room with portraits on the wall or statues, and you would pick your character (characters?) from them.
One of them I'm totally sure was a lizardman warrior type guy, there was also a human warrior, and I think an elf, a dwarf, and like other classes (Magician? Archer?)
maybe the elf was the archer
it was so long ago I can barely remember
>>3909292
>lizardman
Sounds like a wizardry.
What if Lavos went Super Saiyan?
Spikeman Snr.
Finally got around to playing this the other day. Good shit. I've beaten Lavos but am now currently doing Lost Sanctum and now I understand why people hate it (or more specifically the mountain).
>>3999784
You playing the ds version? The postgame sidequests are shit, don't do them.
Chrono cross is a can of worms I won't open, but look into it I suppose. At the very least listen to the soundtrack, it may be the best of any game.
ITT: Games for the NES that are better than Super Mario Bros 3.

>hey this old game has some interest
>Should we make a new title in the series? Nah, let's just remake the old game!
>Oh it didn't sell well. Guess we shouldn't make more games. It surely has nothing to do with how we butchered the game and lost everything special about it and the original still looks better
When will the remake meme end?
>>3998707
Some remakes do really well (even if I don't like them) and it gets the company a bunch of income for much less work. Doesn't always turn out the best but I get why they do it.
There are a bunch of old games with a really solid premise but are flawed in some major way and a remake has the potential to really make them shine.
>>3998707
Unless the original was deserving of a remake, yes.
>>3998740
>confusing ports with remakes
That's a port. The core game remains. They just added somet things to it.
Remakes are where they remake all the assets and game engine and try to make it new and HD. They often completely fail.
