Play the original Japanese versions of games and enjoy a whole new world of friendliness and hope, and face challenges that were dumbed down because American kids were deemed too stupid and lazy to figure them out.

Except for the majority of the time, because rentals or just because Vic Ireland fucking says so
>>
Not always the case, OP. In fact sometimes the challenge is ramped up.
>>

The "American" one is actually British. It's also '80s as fuck and I love it.

You're posting a jrpg on a weeb site. Of course it's fucking overrated.

play it and decide for yourself, or are you incapable of making such trivial decisions without having your hand held?

Does it even work with the ps1? I never played it and I thought it'd be cool to have the game on the go and emulate it through my psp.

if i had to guess it probably works but is not the ideal way to play it
>>
i>>3988180
I've watched some reviews of the ps1 version on youtube and one of them says the control works great but I don't know whether or not it's just a sort of bloated statement simply because of the fact it works on console. Loadings seem to be the issue although I suppose it doesn't distract too much from the actual game
>>
>>3988201
The PC version has load screens too. IDK which is longer, though.

I wouldn't. If you don't like it, stop playing them.

We first need to identify the problems.

The biggest offender is that little strategy is needed to win
>Few options to strategically position yourself in fights
>Element systems are usually too simplistic
>Poor balance (having to grind or being OP)
>Stats rarely mean anything beyond defining who is a magic user and who is a fighter
>Few lasting consequences beyond gaining exp
>Disconnect between how you use a character and how they level up
>Long animations (fun the first few times, but that's it. Summons I'm looking at you)
>Little actual role-playing. For instance, what happens if you want to try diplomacy, or something unexpected to get out of fighting.
>Weapons and armor are usually strict numeric upgrades
>etc.
>>
>>3988170
Many of these have been addressed in various franchises over the years.

If you're grinding outside of an NES game you're plying wrong, and it's your fault that there is little strategy involved in that case.

The vending machines don't have proper damage modelling. But you can kill civillians without consequence, in fact some civillians have secret handguns so your encouraged to practically. Also in the ending you do murder this woman as the credits roll.
You clearly never played it fagit.

How does this one compare to Phantasia? I've only played it, and Abyss, Vesperia, and Berseria and enjoyed Vesperia the most, if tjat matters. I found it at a Vintage Stock and was thinking of picking it up.

It's decent, nice soundtrack, fairly long game.
If you liked Phantasia you'll like this. Battles are more real time though, so there's no pauses during spells and shit, makes for some intense boss fights. Much more satisfying challenge than Phantasia.
>>
I liked Phantasia better.

Checked. I love Coin Controls controllers. I have ones for my 2600, 5200 and a C64 DTV but my A500 doesn't work. Does the 2600 one work on it? Amigas have two button joysticks right? Maybe even three if UAE is to be trusted.

Corner geometry meme aside, flatscreens are bigger and heavier than curved of the same size and I'm not the biggest fan of their wider-still all silver bezels but they are probably the best consumer TV to be scrounging up free right now. Show her inputs.

>Goddamn, scary to think that the minecart stage was the BEST one. Everything else was some gimmicked up shit or an underwater level way too hard for it's own good. Well at least we're at the final b-
>Chimp Caverns
>There's MORE to this fucking game and it starts off with the shittiest gimmick level in the game? Fuck this, I'm out.

Miyamoto was right, Super Mario World felt rewarding with it's gameplay and discovery meanwhile Donkey Kong Country feels unfair with gimmick levels that only happen once so you need to completely relearn the game just for one stage and exploration only rewards you with more bananas which go to extra lives that will inevitably get eaten up by the bullshit gimmick levels. Not to mention the copious amounts of offscreen bullshit (Go play Orang-utan Gang if you don't believe me) that the only way you could counter it is by playing the level beforehand or watching a guide that will cost you a Kong when it wouldn't in Super Mario World because you usually have a half dozen movement options at your disposal to avoid it, you don't get better at Donkey Kong Country, you just learn it's patterns which anybody can do given enough time. I was at the exact same skill level I started at because I didn't learn anything new about this game, I just memorized the patterns of the levels like it's a game of Simon. Fuck this steaming pile of goat shit

>muh gimmicks are bad!
/vr/ in nutshell, gimmicks are fun, you never know what to expect from a level instead of "ok let's play generic level #27 featuring the same things but in different spots", it's obvious that you can get better a lot faster in a game with little variation of gameplay (like the original non-romhack SMW), not that I think DKC1 is a masterpiece, but DKC2 sure is.

Never saw one for sale, never saw one in person, don't know anybody who got one.
I mean what was the point?
>>
>>3985930

I knew people who wanted one, but they were all bought immediately by resellers who camped out in front of stores in literal tents. They then put them on Craigslist and EBay for $200+ and nobody I know is stupid enough to pay that.

It actually pisses me off pretty bad, if I managed a store that sold these i'd tell obvious resellers to fuck off and only sell them to kids

Holy shit, why was this so hard?
