Was I the only one that liked Toad?
I think Toad's actually the best character in the game.
I preferred Luigi most of the time.
Some times Peach when the level had some icky jumps.

Technically it's Luigi (it's a platforming game after all dependent on jump) but Toad was the patrician's choice.
Luigi needed a fucking nerf.
I bought the entire Ultima series on GOG several years ago, and while I've still never played them, I'm planning on it so let's have an Ultima thread. First question: is it imperative that I play through all of them in order?
Some other stuff for the sake of creating discussion:
>favorite games in the series?
>recommended sourceports/modifications?
>are 8 and 9 that bad?
Ultima 8 is basically the only good entry.
Ultima 9 is unholy shite.
You can skip the first three Ultimas without losing anything.
Don't forget about the Ultima Underworld games. They are the best in the series, IMO.

Some of you might remember a huge collection of OST some people were making a few year ago.
Well, it's gone.
I'm starting a new one though, with whatever leftover from the last.
I'm sure most of you have soundtracks/gamerips for older games, so please share.
Pic related is our newest addition.

Is there ANY good CDi games?

Yes. Tetris CD-i is the definitive edition:

Witch design of the super nintendo do you prefer the famicom/pal version or the ntsc design ? I personally like both but I like the ntsc‛s power and reset switches are so fucking satisfying to press.
I can't decide. A lot of people say the US SNES is ugly, but I think it looks stylish, and unlike the NES and Famicom, the size is the same between SNES and SFC.
I own both.
Also, the SNES controller wins because of having 2 concave and 2 convex buttons.

>Witch design of the super nintendo
*they are so fucking satisfying
Is it true that there are people on /vr/ right now who still plays shitty ports made for home consoles instead of their superior arcade versions with better graphics and sounds and superior fun?
MAME just works now and has a built-in game-selection GUI. Just download it already and pick the games you want from a non-merged torrent.
>MAME
Enjoy your input lag.
There are people on /vr/ who actually own the actual pcb and cab.

Home versions typically have more content, and are balanced around home play. Often they're more playable.
How would you fix this game? It seems to me like a lot of great potential and craft wasted in inaccessible and unrewarding gameplay
Remove the 15 elemental properties, streamline to something like 4.
>>3978241
Make it fully real time instead of semi-real time. Should have been more Zelda 64, rather than Final Fantasy. Playing Dark Souls I was like "yeah, this is what Vagrant story should have been like".
>>3978241
the game is fine as is, it's not its fault most of the people who play it are ADD riddled mongoloids who couldn't be bothered to read the in game manual and later whine about doing zero damage
One of the tragic effects of the death of jrpgs is that rpgs nowdays features convoluted plots. Instead of saving the world by defeating the shadow henchmen, you usually have to deal with more complex ethical issues.
I really enjoy more epic journeys with a more classic black/white story a la Tolkien.
Well it's a good thing you're on the retro board, my fair anon.
Jerperguers evolved from shonen stories into moeshit stories.

We're gonna look back on this after the fad has died down some twenty years from now and really be fascinated by what kind of stuff weirdos put in their games. Don't be too bothered by it, just don't play their crap.
PGXP is some magic shit.

Don't like it, I miss the wobbling.
I don't see the appeal.
whatever
I grew up playing original consoles including SNES, NES and genesis. Now I play those systems on my CRT via Wii + S Video. It all plays exactly how I remember, except the NES video looks cleaner and genesis games don't have jailbars. Is needing original hardware for pre PS1 consoles a meme?
Everything is a meme

Idk its fun to have the real thing (tm)

Truth
Post some dank retro vidya synth music and discuss which systems have the better audio hardware ITT.

programming for any kind of sound hardware is such a pain in the ass
Why is Rondo of Blood such a well known game (at least on /v/ and /vr/), while the PC Engine is still slowly rising in popularity?
>>3977432
rob was literally pc engine's only great exclusive
inb4 nec defense force
>>3977441
This.
Rondo is an influential game in a beloved series. That's why it's better known than the niche console it was released on.
>>3977432
Rondo became legendary among CV fans because of it's Jap-only status, because being on a niche console made it difficult to emulate, and because it was the "mysterious" prequel to SotN.
As others said, PC Engine pretty much only became know because of Rondo.
Well?
All except PS One are correct, since PS One refers to the "mini" model specifically.sage
>>3976926
I love anon's oc too, but we shouldn't have a repeat so soon.
TFW when you noticed the PlayStation full screen dithering effect once and now you know you will never Not notice it again.
Use a more blurry CRT, then it's unnoticeable.
>>3976924
Or maybe i could just smear Vaseline over my decent CRT?
>>3976924
Not OP. I play on a CRT and even with composite you can still see the dithering easily.
>some parts of game don't load properly
>sounds like a printer when seeking through the disc
I just booted mine up yesterday to play some Hydro Thunder, and the first time it loaded none of the menu music or sound effects played. I rebooted the system, dusted off the disc with my shirt, and then everything worked fine after that.
Was it just the disc, or is my Dreamcast dying?
>>3975679
It certainly could be on its last leg, but the optical drive was always loud. Try different discs and leave it on for awhile. If it doesn't kick off, it was probably a dirty disc.
>>3975679
I'd say the disc. No sense making the worse assumption without reason.
>>3975679
What the hell? My copy of Hydro Thunder is the exact same way, except my Dreamcast loads up every other game just fine
Are these guys good for emulation/old pc games?
>>3974346
I'd say anythin before PS1 or N64
>>3974346
Decent for console emulation but probably not for old pc games depending on your definition of old.
>>3974346
I wouldn't bother beyond the NES and Master System
