When does /out/ drink untreated water? Do you trust it above a certain elevation? When it's seeping through rock or sand? I'm guilty on both counts, thankfully never gotten sick. Any "shitty" stories?

I don't treat often. I carry iodine or a filter but usually opt to drink without using it. I think it's a combination of two things
1. Having a tolerance/proper gut biome to deal with the water.
2. Knowing what sources to drink from- it's hard to explain here, but you can tell most of the time if it's actually a spring or just a stream that went underground for a little bit.
>>
Sawyer or boil. I've drank questionable water with both, and never had any issues.

The swampiest stuff I've downed I boil. Use it to make tea to hide the taste, add it directly to whatever meal I'm rehydrating, or boil then sawyer. Cleans up the taste really well.

It's hard to get past the mental barrier at first, but I don't even think twice about drinking boiled or filtered water out of the most stagnant of sources. Obviously find the freshest around, but you can only use what's available.

Tl;Dr go /out/ more.

Is it safe to sleep in your car in a national/state forest, or another secluded spot?

Or would getting a $10 campsite and sleeping in your car at the camp site be about the same level of safety as sleeping in a tent?

It is. Just look out for skinwalkers.

idk about national parks but all parks i can think of prohibit sleeping in your car, camping in general in your car but i think it might be different for the nps

What's the appeal of knives with a very tall profile? I don't think I've ever been hindered by having a slim scandi style blade and it's much better for carving.

That's literally it though, a stronger heavier blade is more effective at chopping

Op on mobile. But what about bk2 or thinks like boker folders come to mind. Is it just for meme value?
>>
>>1027531
My dad got me a bk2 for an engagement present a while ago. It's a pretty sweet knife in terms of it being just a huge chunk of steel, but that's about it. It has average quality steel, and holds an ok edge. It does chop and such very well, but it's so heavy you might as well just carry a small hatchet.

Not meme tier in my opinion, but not a knife that I would take hiking or camping all the time.

For those that do drop shot, do you vary the length of your drop or do ya'll tie it about the same every time?

Is there a functional difference between a dropshot rig and a splitshot rig?

How legal is it to set an animal trap on your own property?

The trap I'm thinking of setting is just a piece of string, a stick, and a dumbell weight.

Thoughts on goretex alternatives such as pertex shield plus, eVent, and neoshell?

Thinking of picking up a lightweight shell to layer over my pertex windshirt for hill walking. Anyone got suggestions? <£150 because semi poorfag

>>
>>1025652
if you believe some of what is written on this board, gore-tex will never work and leaves you wetter than standing in the rain (according to them), some loons rant that they would rather be warm and wet wearing pile and pertex, yet nobody else seems to agree with them since no-one buys/wears it, eVent seems to have all but disappeared, neoshell is going the same way but both apparently work better than gore-tex but none of them actually work at all, but yet again nobody seems to be wearing wax/wool coats other than larping/wannabe bushmen that never go anywhere, but that's only because we all need to be 'woke' from the gore-tex conspiracy

and pretty much all fabrics become useless once the dwr wears out anyway since none of them will breathe once saturated on the outer layer which is why i re-proof everything every time i wash it... so take your pick
>>
Yep, rucksacks destroy jackets too. There are lots of systems, including ventile, and paramo, but I'm interested in a pack away waterproof. The 2.5 and 3 layer pertex looks interesting. I'm more interested in breathability than absolute waterproofing
>>
>>1025718
Also, with this lightweight gear you have to be OK with it only lasting a season or two.

And there's at least two P&P anons

fuck, that's one sport i've intentionally not tried yet for fear it'd become another addiction and i'd spend a fuckload of money jumping out of airplanes for that rush. Not for lack of knowing people in that sport either.

Recently, it's when I raced x-games. That shit was way above my skill level. Filling out insurance/waivers/etc in the morning was fine, nothing out of the ordinary... when the groomers were pushing the snow around on the track, that's when I started getting nervous... "Oh fuck, what am I doing here..."

Did better than I thought I would, especially for as nervous as I was. Placed higher than a couple of pretty big names, which was exciting.
Definitely glad I did it.

Hey guys, im looking for help. Pleas redirect me if necessary.

The last white wolf in Yellowstone National Park was killed illegally and yes, im pissed as are others.
I would LOVE to fine out who did it so they can face the charges that they deserve to face.
This wolf was important to the eco system and was 12 years old. Yellowstone was her home and she was shot without a chance to play the game. Please help! thank you
