Hello bros !
First time posting on this Board, so there is my question / request :
Next vacation i'm going on a freestyle trip around our country with some friends,
>objectives no money spend
But we need a tent, not a fucking 50$ shit for rich rambler, so what did you recomend me ?
(also we can sleep in car if it's raining and sleep for free in peoples house when we do crouchsurfing)
How many friends?
What country?
What time of year?
Type of activity? Alpine?

Thoughts on the company?
>>1026641
i've heard they make clothing, boots and equipment aimed at the outdoor market
>>1026641
Overpriced.
Its the same answer every thread. Quit askin.
Does anyone on /out/ actually have a job? The only gear that is liked here is Coghlans crap which is just above garbage.
You just hiked 15 miles only to find that the campground you were planning on spending the night at is closed. It's late, you're tired, and there's not another soul in sight. Do you say fuck it and camp out anyway?
Sir I live in Kentucky we don't follow rules and will do anything possible to keep from having to follow rules.
>campground
HAHAHAHAHA
>>1026549
Do you just hike in off the marked trails and set camp? Doesn't your fire attract park patrol? Any tips for setting camp not in a designated campground?
t. respectful inexperienced
I kinda reached a dead end with my life lately, despite life being good and all.
>Past mid twenties
>No job
>Living with parents
>No gf
>No dog
>Car
>Some savings
I have decided to take a decision this week, not sure what though. My opinions are either get a job a work my ass off and then buy a couple acres of land or say fuck it all and go travel for a while. Anyone on the same spot as I? What have you decided?
What sort of work are you qualified for? Do you have a degree or a trade?
>>1026486
None. Yeah I know.
>>1026491
Then your first priority should be career development. Look into apprenticeships in your area. Even if you aren't strong academically, you can live a comfortable lifestyle if you are willing to put in some hard work.
Once you get that sorted all that other stuff will get worked out. Life isn't a race, the fact that you are in late 20's isn't the end of the world.
What kind of food do you take /out/? What kind of food works best for a few nights camping deep in the wilderness? Ive heard good things about jerky, and Ive also heard that if you bring flour you can make bread pretty easily. What foods do you prefer?
usally i eat the stuff i find
lots of bagged nuts, you can bring like 10,000 calories of peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, cashews, etc very easily
also I like to pre-bag minute rice with flavoring that is already the right rice:water ratio for my camp pot lid to measure
When I backpack/camp, I like bagels, peanut butter, tuna, lots of Nature Valley protein bars, prebagged rice/bean mixtures that I boil, instant mashed potatoes (amazing when you're tired), bacon bits, and plenty of cheese sticks for snacking/mixing into other stuff.
Also the dehydrated stuff (mac n cheese, Pad Thai) you can get at REI, while overpriced, is pretty good.
>can't sit by the stream because of all the bugs flying
>sweat attracts flies
>normies laughing and making a pile of noise, scaring off the wildlife
>sunburn
>tonnes of young families on the trail who look at me like I'm about to rape them
>BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZT
Does anyone else fucking hate going /out/ in the summer?
>>1024927
No.
I have none of those issues
>bugs
Wear bug spray
>sweat attracts flies
And the bug spray chases them off
>loud normies
Go where normies don't
>sunburn
Wear long sleeve shirts and use sunblock
>young families on the trail who look at me like I'm about to rape them
Stop looking like a hobo rapist. Basic personal hygiene is retardedly easy.
>tonnes
Move out of the Commonwealth
>BZZZZT
Stop playing with your chinkshit stun gun
>>1024927
>>can't sit by the stream because of all the bugs flying
Not a problem here.
>>sweat attracts flies
K
>>normies laughing and making a pile of noise, scaring off the wildlife
Kinda feel you, happened the same to me this week
>>sunburn
>Not being tanned
Weeew
>>tonnes of young families on the trail who look at me like I'm about to rape them
Being a loner has its disadvantages, try to look and act normal.
>tfw I just shaved my head and look more threatening now
Shouldn't have tried to cut my own hair.
>>BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZT
?
>Does anyone else fucking hate going /out/ in the summer?
I don't hate but yes, I wish there was fewer people there
If you're dealing with these issues. You are barely even /out/
First time poster, hey /out/!
My buddy and I are planning on celebrating graduating college next month by hiking along the Superior Trail for 2 weeks. Going to attempt to make it to Canada.
Does anyone have any advice for a couple of hiking newbies? I'm extremely excited about this trip, but I just saw 3 threads on black bear dangers and now I'm getting a little paranoid, haha.
Why do I feel like you're going to die
>never been hiking
>planning a 2 week trip
so when you bail after getting spooked your first night out are you going to go straight home, or are you going to hang out in a hotel for 2 weeks then go home and tell everyone what an amazing trip it was, and it's such a bummer your camera stopped working the very first day?
Hey /out/ I'm planning a trip to Russia next January, wondering what boots to buy to handle the cold. I'm from Australia so have no experience with cold below 0c and have been told to expect -30c while in Siberia. Also any advice on other cold weather gear would be great, gloves, socks, pants, layering techniques etc
Buy proper snow boots with removeable inserts. Buy large enough so you can layer socks as necessary.
Are you hiking or just visiting?
If visiting, think about a down parka, a single heavy layer is the tits when you have to go in and out from the cold.
If you're hiking you're going to want layers. That cold you no longer need waterproofs.
Gloves, consider liner gloves plus over mitts, mitts that keep your fingers together (rather than gloves that keep them individual) are warmer.
Personally I'd go for a set of long johns, regular technical trousers, a pair of softie type over trousers, a pile fleece, and wool jumper, over a cotton smock, with a supplementary layer for stopping (down jacket).
>>1025118
Thanks for all the advice! In regards to the boots, can you elaborate on a snow boot? I've literally never seen snow in my life. We will be travelling from the train to the hotel, to a restaurant, to a tourist attraction and back to the train etc...
>>1025118
Overnight in Chernobyl with 2 days of walking around there will be the longest amount of time outdoors
Hello, my fellows anons, I come here asking for your help.
How can I carry a map without having to take off my bag everytime i want to check it or carrying it in my hand?
put it in your pocket
>>1024793
I forgot to sya that i carry it with a piece of cardboard so i can have a hard surfice so i can write or draw
>>1024791
Football play book.
Or shove it in a pocket like everybody else does.
Long shot; but are there any britfags on here who know any nice walks in the Peak District?
Any /out/ists who want to walk out there with another bro?
Pic related: Me and my favourite walk.
>>1024721
I don't know, but I lived in UK for 2.5 years for work and I often went to Snowdania, Lake District, and Peak District. WOnderful places. Really stunning. Absolutely love the countryside in UK.
One hike I went in peak district (or walk/trek as Brits call it) and i was along the ridge and to my left was all green and to the right was all white from freshly fallen snow. So magical.
THen you get one after a long day of walking out in the wind and cold and stop at a pub and have a nice bangers and mash and a pint.
I really love traditional british culture.
>>1024859
Thanks for the bump.
Yeah there's no other place I'd sooner be than here in the midlands.
Been offered tickets all over the world from my farther work and "family" holidays but, fuck em, I walk in the peaks once a week with a friend and my two dogs and it's enough for me and I get home each evening to my own bed.
So any UK peeps lurking?
One of my favourite pictures, taken in roughly the same place.
>>1025122
UK here, a bit further north of you, never been to the peaks before. How remote are they.
>>1021867
WAIT!!!! IDEA!!!!!
>get trampoline the same square area as your tent
>set up trampoline at campsite
>place tent on top of trampoline and lash it into place
•No more spiders under your tent waking you up in them middle of the night (big thing where I live).
•No more worry about being in a low spot when it rains.
•Possibly interesting sex.
•No more problems with potholes, rocks, or tree roots under tent.
What does out think? Mitebgud for car camping/festival camping.
And all i have to do is carry a 150 lb giant peice of metal on my back? sweet.
>>1023089
>car camping/festival camping.
>>1023066
I actually did this as a kid at home on our bigass trampoline. The poles scratched the shit out of the trampoline but it was still a fun time.
What's the best cigar or tobacco product to bring /out/?
>>1022676
Weed
>>1022676
I just bring a small hookah
>>1022676
Just a good pipe and some loose tobacco in a pouch. No need to worry about it getting crushed.
Best outdoor areas in Montana/Idaho/Wyoming?
I'm passing through this area for about a week and I want to see the best this area has to offer
>>1021940
Rocky mountain front. Really any of the national parks in the areas. Idaho has nice natural hot springs if you like that
I don't know what you mean by "outdoor areas."
>>1021940
Yellowstone is obvious, although since it's past Memorial Day it'll be you and about 300 billion other people there even on weekdays.
Otherwise for Wyoming you have Jackson Hole, the Bighorn National Forest, the general Cheyenne area, Laramie, Medicine Bow Nat'l Forest, and a few other places.
What's the best suspension setup for an hammock?
Mine came with shitty, short ropes and I need to replace them, If I choose rope what's the adequate thickness?
>>1017298
>thickness
>not rating
i have 6mm cord that's stronger than some 5/8" hardware garbage.
>>1017301
>Imperial
>Metric
Pick one
>>1017301
what about just using paracord then?
What is /out/'s stance on global warming?
>>1015972
>long term trend
We are losing atmosphere and will become like mars if we dont keep adding co2
>right now
Omg we found an excuse to get the plebs to pay an air tax
>>1015982
>Yes good goy, you don't need good air.
>Yes good goy we have your interest at heart
>>1015982
This
All the predictions I've ever heard from politicians and scientists have been 100 percent bullshit like Florida being underwater by 2013 or endless droughts. It's a mix of human pollutants and the climate changing over time. But don't believe a word out of al gore as he flys his jumbo jet airliner and drives his SUV motorcade across the country to virtue signal polar bears melting.
