Tripping /out/ is awesome. Just have a sitter and warm clothes/blankets people often forget how chilling it can get /out/ and being too cold balls deep isn't much fun.

Where about in Iceland?
>Pic related I'm in Iceland too.
>>
Well, since there is already a photo thread maybe this one will be about Iceland.

I'm going there in a few months. Renting a camper van. Planning on a lot of hiking, probably nothing overnight though. What do I need to know, is there anything uniquely challenging about Iceland? Any gear you would reccomend? Will be primarily sleeping and cooking in the van, and visiting bars, restaurants, and the odd hotel or air bnb as we find them (looks pretty sparse outside of Reykjavik, which is a ok with me)

>>
>>1017664
Sometimes they swallow the hook or get hooked kinda sideways, so there's blood occasionally. As far as the taste, in my opinion, speckled trout are some of the best eating fish you can catch. We always filet them and pan fry or meuniere. They always taste clean.

Opinions on jackets? Hard shell or soft shell?

At the moment I can afford a nice new jacket + layering system but I'm not sure whether to go for a hard shell or just a soft shell.

I live in Montana, so the temps can get down to -20 at some points and I wanna be able to ski and winter hike in it.

Depends, do you want to survive if you get wet? Yes? Then hardshell.
>>

My waterproof Marmot softshell has never let me down, even in three days of pouring rain and gale.
>>
I've heard that unless you're out in pouring rain then you should choose soft shell due to the breathability of a soft shell.

never tried hammocks before but I spent a week sleeping in one by the beach and I think I'm converted

>don't need clear groundspace

>simply to cover with a tarp

I've just got to learn how to string them properly

I have a dog and dogs that eat grapes die. Why do you hate puppers?

"Grapes and raisins can cause rapid kidney failure. While it varies between dogs, symptoms may not show up in them. Other than kidney failure, dogs can also develop vomiting or diarrhea as well as a lethargic state. Dogs will also develop dehydration and lack of appetite."

Thats dumb, and you're dumber for believing it.

Your dogger isn't going to spontaneously explode if you give it a couple of grapes, or some chocolate.
>>
>>1018090
Most things won't cause anybody to spontaneously explode, doesn't mean it's cool. I had a dog get into some mouse poison in an abandoned house once, he turned out all right but I still don't think it was good for him.

What is the deal with tents? Are they required for /out/ or are they just a personal preference.

I always just bring a tarp and sleep on it. Have always been fine but I see you all talking about tents. If the weather is fair is their any benifit to bringing a tent over a tarp?

Im from NH if that means anything.

Depends on where you are I'd say. Where I'm at it's wake up soaked and covered in ticks and leaves

Required? Na. Arguably better with a tent though

Become good at a trade(s), something you're passionate about. If you become better than most at your craft find a market and profit from it, enough to make a living Everything else is icing on the cake after that.

Well I mostly murder and loot backpackers at night. It's pretty easy, just walk on the trail and when you pass someone move off the trail and out of their sight. Let them pass you. From there, I either shoot them in the back of their head (if they're alone) or wait till they break their camp and are asleep in their tent, then I just hack away with my hatchet.

My little trick is to kill either solitary backpackers or weak-looking pairs and couples (it's okay even if they're two males, you will easily be able to get both - they'll be trying to get out from their tent while you chop them up).

Then I just sell their shit on craigslist. I'm actually making good money doing it, and it's as /out/ of a job as can be.
