Which is better? Vets, stolen valor, autists, SEALs, armchair generals, engineers, theorists, etc. all welcome to discuss the state of the art and future uses.
Rifle vs helmet mounted?
Hybrid nv/thermal devices?
Cost considerations?
Weapon-integrated smart targeting?
Future vs history?
Anything goes, but stay on topic.

Instead of saying "which is better", we should ask "In which situation is one better in".
In Iraq, thermals were shitty when the sun was setting or after it set, as thermals would show items such as metal being body temp hot as opposed to our 14D.
However, in sand storms, thermals were better for viewing at larger distances, as the IR in our 14D were blocked out with the dust in the air, hence we couldn't see shit. Situation calls for different pieces of equipment, and unless you have the money to buy both, one should themselves which situation would they use said item the most in.

How about night time ops?
Were you in a tank?
Hey /k/, I have an autistic hatred towards scopes and RDS after using a crossbow for 5 years.
Basically you need to exercise for 10-15 seconds in between shots, and even then a slight change in your stance will still send the bolt somewhere else since it's a bow and not a gun. After my first scope broke (collapsed after I shot the bow) and I had to try to sight in another scope, I hate the idea of scopes period now.
Remington 700 looks like a very fun gun, and I want one, but I ALWAYS see fuckers mount scopes on them,
Remington DOES sell front and rear sights though, but I'm wondering if doing so would be.. odd. Or bad. Like, obviously it's unusual, but is there a reason it is? Is the rifle bad for iron sights?
Also getting it in .30-06 because I like saying "Thurdy Awt Six" almost as much as "Tu ba for"
>>33289444
Nothing wrong with it. I have a 700 in 30-06 with iron sights. I don't use them since I mounted a scope, but there's nothing wrong with using the sights.
Honestly, for the vast majority of gun owners/hunters, scopes aren't necessary, and this whole idea that not having one is bad is just a marketing gimmick used to convince you that you need a scope.
I want some HK/HK-clone shit. Assuming I could only get 1 of these, which would the best use of my money or the most fun to use?
>P30L LEM trigger
>USP 45 Tactical
>Mark 23
>PTR 91
>Zenith Z5-RS SBR'd
I'd probably also want to suppress it if it's suppressor-ready and the HPA passes for home defense use.

I am a 23 y/o Canadian firefighter/baker and before I started my firefighting career, I was basically in Limbo for 5 years. I was completely lost and a downright loser but not a total dumb fuck. Since the beginning of my self improvement journey, I discovered I was a lot more resilient and capable than I thought and I am now dreaming of what I could have accomplished if it weren't for my teenage faggotery.
I always wanted to go into the army but parental pressure was enormous and I fucked up a lot of my youth by basically being close to a NEET. I have grown a lot, especially in my fire department and I feel confident, more than ever to take on the most difficult of challenges. After that, I will go to university and get a STEM degree and maybe, be part of the Canadian space agency. Yeah I'm dreaming but not too long ago I never thought for a second that I would be part of one of the most alpha job in the country.
Is it still somewhat possible for me to do a complete career change? How long do I have to study? What challenges would I have to face?
You're going to get a better answer on R*ddit.com/r/canadianforces and it's Weekly Recruitment Thread.
Depends what kind of person you are. There are two kind of people who make it through the shit show. Overachievers and people who hate losing. There's more to it then that but that's a good start.
What else do you want to know
>STEM field bachelor's degree
>high level of fitness
>no eyeglasses, color blindness, depth perception problems, or field of view problems allowed.
>also good if you don't get motion sickness easily.
hooah bullshit for 4 years, still end up flying a logistics airplane. end up quitting after 6 to fly for an airlines.
If 7.62x39 hits harder, why switch to 5.45?
>>33286640
Lighter, lower recoil for auto fire, flatter trajectory for tit-for-tat cartridge advancement.
>this thread has been done to death
>>33286640
I really wish we'd have had this discussion 10 years ago
Would have really put everything into perspective for those of us just now turning 18
>>33286666
Quads confirm.
5.45 is insanely controllable.
t. someone who shot an AK-47 AND an AK-74, AND an AR-15 this afternoon. The 15 and the 47 are controllable compared to the battle rifle shit I usually shoot, but the 74 feels like shooting a fucking .22 or an air rifle compared even to 7.62x39 or .223. It's also stupidly controllable when you bumpfire it.
>he reloads his spent brass
>he scurries around the range like a rat collect decent peoples' brass
Is there anything more autistic than reloading?
>he cares what others do
>>33286266
What do with my brass if I am not a reloader? I've been hoarding it in the hopes of selling it to someone one day.
>>33286270

He's basically asking for a divorce at this point. Jesus Christ.
What's the context here
maybe he doesn't like some little timid girl who tags along for the ride. Why have a wife if you're rich?
>>33285945
The fuck does this have to do with a divorce?
>want an AR
>hate the black rifle look
why cant they just make them stainless or with wood furniture or something fuck
They make both of those things
They also make paint
>it's 3am
>you wake up to the sound of glass shattering and loud banging
>you grab your shotgun and walk out into the hallway
do you rack it, /k/?
After the first shot because I leave loaded weapons laying around my home like a responsible adult.
>>33283792
Not because it is my father eating out our fridge
>>33283792
No, because I've quietly cocked it while laying in bed. Racking it loudly in the hallway is just going to give away my position and make me a target; if somebody is in my house, I don't need to give them a warning before I shoot them.
>it's a nightmare where you've entered into a TV iron-chef style contest to build a gun from scratch but you've forgotten how to do everything from casting barrels to working a lathe so you just stand there looking like an idiot while the guy next to you builds an SVT-40 from scratch
Just woke up from this one post your /k/ related dreams and nightmares itt
>>33279271
you don't cast rifle barrels.

What is microcasting?
If companies are not using it it doesn't mean it is not possible.
Whats your thoughts on the roland special?

not advertising just thinking about building one.
>>33278340
You can build something just as good for a lot cheaper.

this is actually really useful for most people on /k/ though
I'll start, a gun that shoots guns, literally giving your enemy a gun
Was this a realistic depiction of WW2?

>don't even get the chance to "fight" your enemy
>just die instantly from some mortar or stray bullet you never saw
How do people come out sane from this?
>>33272462
>don't even get the chance to "fight" your enemy
>just die instantly from some mortar or stray bullet you never saw
this has been a pretty common occurence since artillery was invented
>>33272462
>How do people come out sane from this?
Many of them don't. My theory is that most of your hardcore grunts that experienced the bulk of fighting during WWII, are long dead. The ones we have left now are mostly support personal, albeit a few outliers. There were hundreds of thousands of mental cases after WWII, many of them being swept under the rug of history, our misguided perceptions of WWI being driven by Hollywood movies and documentaries that portray a complete falsehood of what really took place. Many actual combat vets of that era died young from Drinking, suicide, or ended in up mental hospitals; but that goes against the grain of what we've been indoctrinated to believe about the Greatest Generation. My grandfather who I never met killed himself in the 1960s and was a veteran of WWII. These types of statistics are an extremely taboo part of our history and culture, and rarely get any dialogue because it makes for shit propaganda
>>33272555
You're probably right. My great uncle landed on omaha beach and saw some hardcore shit. He never spoke about it except once, before I left for Afghanistan. He gave me a hug afterwards (the only time he ever hugged me) and he died when I was overseas. No one was ever really close with him except my grandfather (who fought in korea) and my family has no idea that he ever told me anything about his time in the army because he kept it so quiet around them as well.
Scanning Breitbart and I stumbled across an article about New Mexico Private sales.
However, regardless of that, look at this guys gun.
LOOK AT IT!!
Who the fuck mounts a $2500 acog/reflex to a mini-14?!?! I'm sure it works, and sure, you could fight with it, but it just seems really crazy to me.
and that offset...
article if anyone cares
