Hey /k/, I have an autistic hatred towards scopes and RDS after using a crossbow for 5 years.
Basically you need to exercise for 10-15 seconds in between shots, and even then a slight change in your stance will still send the bolt somewhere else since it's a bow and not a gun. After my first scope broke (collapsed after I shot the bow) and I had to try to sight in another scope, I hate the idea of scopes period now.

Remington 700 looks like a very fun gun, and I want one, but I ALWAYS see fuckers mount scopes on them,
Remington DOES sell front and rear sights though, but I'm wondering if doing so would be.. odd. Or bad. Like, obviously it's unusual, but is there a reason it is? Is the rifle bad for iron sights?

Also getting it in .30-06 because I like saying "Thurdy Awt Six" almost as much as "Tu ba for"
>>
>>33289444
Nothing wrong with it. I have a 700 in 30-06 with iron sights. I don't use them since I mounted a scope, but there's nothing wrong with using the sights.

Honestly, for the vast majority of gun owners/hunters, scopes aren't necessary, and this whole idea that not having one is bad is just a marketing gimmick used to convince you that you need a scope.

>PTR 91
>Zenith Z5-RS SBR'd

I'd probably also want to suppress it if it's suppressor-ready and the HPA passes for home defense use.

Nothing wrong with irons.

Nothing wrong with a Burris 3x9, either. I guarantee sighting on in on a rifle is easier than a bow, because you can't rest a bow on sandbags and I can't imagine how you boresight one. And Burris' scopes don't break, and they have a lifetime warrantee, and they only cost $180.

And yet..... I can surmise that your archery background gives you an edge when it comes to the Mk. I eyeball. Follow your heart and nerves and hands.

Does that LAM actually exist in production?
I thought they only got the prototyping stage.

its still listed on the IMI sight as one of their products. Some folks buy an adaptor and mount an M6 or the like on there. That remedy will save you about 1000.00
>>
>>33289444
The model 700 BDL comes with iron sights. Try to find an older one. You can mount a scope on it later if you change you mind.

A nice optic with quality mounts is really advantages with a manual action gun, especially one meant for long range shooting.

If you look at safari videos you can see larger caliber bolt guns without an optical in action. A lot of times they don't use them because the recoil from them could knock the scope of zero (although I'd imagine modern scopes/mounts won't have that problem anymore) and also for taking quick shots.

OP, do what you want, the rifle will look fine but especially if it's iron sights with a wood stock in something 300 WM or above. If you wanted something with an optic for long range I wouldn't suggest wood though.

Not using irons is an objectively shit decision, so that should suit you pretty well.

Also, 30-06 is an objectively inferior caliber that is out preformed by .308 in every way possible.

that thing will outlive you and its fucking great to shoot

also nice for MGS autism
>>
>>33291998
While MGS autism is a nice selling point, is it really that much better than a USP to justify almost doubling the cost? I also worry my manlet hands will have trouble handling it, since I held a regular USP45 before and it already filled my hands up pretty well.
Also I couldn't go full autism without the KAC suppressor and LAM, which look like they would melt my wallet and then some.
>>
>>33291328
Closest would probably be an AI AW Covert, which is the Arctic Warfare .308 action with an integrally-suppressed 12" barrel. Alternatively, something custom dropped into an AICS stock.

>>
>>33289444
Everything with the Remington name on it is garbage. My first gun was a Remington 700, and it sucked.
>>
>>33289444
It's unusual because it's sold exclusively as either a hunting rifle or a precision rifle. Neither activities are particularly conducive to iron sight shooting because of the ramifications of a miss or bad hit from safety and ethics standpoints.

That being said, there's nothing that will prevent you from buying one with irons (the BDL was available with factory irons as recently as 2007 and the Model 7 carbine is still equipped with them standard, as well as your Safari and other dangerous-game-caliber R700's having them in most cases), or preventing you from installing irons on a normal rifle.
>>
>>33294628
>Everything from the last 20 years with the Remington name on it is garbage

80s model 870s are some of the best pumps out there
>>
>>33290506
Not very.

Pretty much all of the rifle projectiles for muzzle loaders are pretty expensive per, but it's not like you'll be able to fire more than 30x per range trip because you'll either foul it up to the point you aren't strong enough to stuff another round down, or you'll run out of time because you had to stop and clean the thing for an hour.

Powder's relatively cheap, caps or non-muzzleloader-specific 209 primers are cheap if you have an inline (there's literally no reason to buy the muzzleloader-specific ones, it's a marketing hook), but even .50cal balls run about 50 cents each and good luck finding minie balls or powerbelts or sabots for under a buck each.
>>
>>33294683
Yeah that's back then, but this is now.
>>
>>33291328
The L96 is a renamed AI AW with no additional modifications.
>>
>>33294728
Isn't l96 a british military designation for the rifle? Reading a bit about snipers
>>
>>33294628
Don't know where the whole meme about the 700 being garbage came from. I've owned 4 and I never had a single problem. Now the R51, that thing is shit.
>>
>>33294753
Where were you during the major recall for model 7 and 700? They would ND by themselves
>>
>>33294774
didn't CNBC report on that like 7-8 years ago and most of it turned out to be bullshit?
>>
>>33294747
The L96A1 was the British designation for the contract rifle based on the AI Precision Marksman, which was the precursor to the AI AW. The only changes made from the Precision Marksman to the L96A1 were a few tweaks to the trigger and cocking ramp to aid in extreme cold weather function, and are the reasons behind the "Arctic Warfare" name. The design of the L96A1 was then standardized and marketed as the AI AW globally to both private owners and military/police forces.
>>
>>33294797
Yes, then Remington fucked up again with the X-mark Pro trigger. The safety would trip the sear when it was disengaged, so affected rifles would fire every time you took the safety off. Also it wasn't actually drop-safe.
>>
>>33294798
Cool. What happens to other rifles in extreme cold enviroments? Do they tend to not feed/fire?
>>
>>33294797
>didn't CNBC report on that like 7-8 years ago and most of it turned out to be bullshit?

You realize that Remington was sued in the wake of that investigative report and ended up losing millions of dollars in a settlement where they agreed to replace the trigger groups of every single Remington 700 ever made that was sent in to them, right? The findings of that particular report were absolutely true.
>>
>>33294899
Most (modern designs) will work, occasionally you'll have one that will have the sear or trigger bar freeze up. The main issue is with a precision rifle, shit like the trigger pull changes in extreme cold or the stock/bedding shrinks and changes your zero.
>>
>>33294530
I could handle something like that. I know that the Mk23 gets compared to the desert eagle in size a lot. I've only held a deagle once or twice, but it felt like it didn't sit snugly in my hands so I figured that feel would extend to the Mk23.
>>
>>33295691
Thanks! I guess that's why a lot of modern precision rifles use synthetic stock to minimize shrinkage? Same concept for hot weather too? Hot/cold weather affects ballistic data?

I've been digging around old guns and I found out about pic related, anyone have any experience with them? Supposedly a whole bunch of them got converted from the French 7.5 to .308/7.62. I thought it was endearing in a blocky, utilitarian way and the rifle grenade sights are a cool touch.
