Speaking historically, probably the kusarigama. After the japanese shogunate confiscated weapons from peasants, one of them had the idea "hey, why I don't I take a sickle, tie a rope to the end of it, and flail it around?" You have to admire the crazy idea.

So I made a thread yesterday about getting a Ruger LCR .38 as my first gun/CC and got a lot of comments about how its a pain in the dick at the range. So I'm looking for a gun thats comfortable at the range and effective for CC (I want it to fit in a coat pocket). Would a Beretta Tomcat be a good choice?

Hey /k/ my dad is looking for a home defense rifle. He lives in the middle of no where in New Hampshire. He is concerned about all the lib riots and shit. He wants a rifle that works both alright at close-ish range (in case the dudes get near the house)but also at pretty solid medium range. He doesn't want to spend much over 1000 dollars. I personally know jack all about civilian manufacturers or civilian gun laws, so any help would be appreciated.

I plan on doing some browsing today at my local gun shops for my first pistol (and gun). I plan on getting an M1911 .45 ACP.
Why are there so many different models and what should I look for?
I'm not shopping for an every day carry, I just want an M1911. I do plan on getting a CC permit next month some time however, and if I find a nice pistol, I might carry it with me some times.

If you only want something that is a m1911 or m1911a1 clone rock island is cost effective way to do it.
If you want to get a 1911 for carry or defense, my best advice is don't. You may get lucky and find a gun+magazine+ammo combo that runs great out of the box but the odds are not in your favor.
If this is your first gun and you have bad luck with it you'll be frustrated as hell and spend more time trying to unfuck your 45 than learning to shoot.
Best case scenario it works and you'll love it because 1911's are easy to shoot and feel pretty damn good in the hand for most people. You'll be "spoiled" and never want another handgun.

I guess it depends on how much you like .380 and what you intend on using it for.
If you intend on using it for CCW/home defense, there are certainly better options. 8 rounds of .380 is not ideal. You would have been better off with a 84fs, which holds 13 rounds.
If it's just for fun at the range, then the question hinges on whether or not you like .380. Personally, I'm not a fan of 380, and I really like .32acp. A Beretta 81 (12 rounds of .32acp) would be more to my taste. If you LIKE .380, then you've got a nice little pistol. Probably one of the classiest pistols in the caliber.

How do you work up the courage to selling a gun? I used to be in the camp of "never sell a gun" but I have a few that I have no use or interest in owning.
I'm starting to see guns as a tool instead of something you take a couple out to shoot here and there and I'm getting really into having only a few guns I use practically.
