It's nice that it plays it but the delay is too long.
Is there a way to skip video files or an image viewer that doesn't freak out at the site of a video file?

How long did it take you to install Gentoo? Did you compile everything from source or did you install some binary packages?

My fucking screen just spontaneously cracked with a quiet but distinct click. Is that seriously a thing?

Also, what new phone do I buy? Obviously OP5 is out of the picture.

S3? I had that phone before my OP1, isn't it super out of date by now? What about updates? Not interested in fucking around with custom ROMs.
Is the OP3 decent?

Unfortunately it's too late.

Successful machine learning researchers are identified in elementary school machine learning competitions. Only the most creative, innovative, and gifted students are selected. If you were never aware of the process, then it means that you failed in the secret initial qualifiers, and weren't even close to earning a place in the program.

This process may sound harsh, but it would simply be cruel to try to train someone in the art of machine learning if they don't possess the raw talent.

If you want help:
>Assemble your parts list
https://pcpartpicker.com/
>State the budget for your build (and country if not the USA)
>List games/software you use often, as well as your monitor resolution + refresh rate
>Clarify your goal for build improvements: lower price or improved specs?
How to assemble a PC, select components & more (kind of outdated)
https://wiki.installgentoo.com/index.php?title=Build_a_PC

CPUs:
No i5 unless discounted
>G4560/G4600 - Budget builds (<$500)
>R5 1400 - Cheapest quad core you can get (Ryzen 3 soon)
>R5 1500x - Good but up to 1600 if you can
>R5 1600 - Best value for higher fps gaming / mixed usage; 1600x if you want higher stock clocks
>i7 7700k - 144hz only
>R7/Used Xeon/Threadripper - Compute/Multitask/VM/mixed use; Not for just gaming

GPUs:
Coin miners have driven price up and stock down, waiting to buy a GPU might be wiser
>Integrated CPU Graphics - Desktop stuff and very light games
>GTX 1050(Ti) - Lower end budget cards, drop settings on newer games, RX560 beaten by both
>RX570 - 1080p@60~hz maxed, running most maxed older games at 100~Hz
>RX580 and GTX1060 6GB - 1080p@80hz maxed, 1440p@60hz at lower settings; RX580 better in newer games
>GTX 1070 - 1080p@130hz /1440p@60hz at high
>GTX 1080 - 1080p@144hz / 1440p@60hz maxed, 4k@60hz in a few games; Probably the highest end card you need for 1080p/1440p
>GTX 1080Ti - 1440p@144hz and 4k@60hz maxed/high in many games

RAM:
>Check your Mobo QVL before buying any RAM
>Ryzen CPUs benefits a lot from high speed RAM

General:
ALWAYS LOOK AT PRODUCT REVIEWS!
Always consider an SSD. Try buying a large SSD for what you'd pay for your SSD+HDD combined, and add a HDD later
NVMe SSDs aren't for a faster OS boot, they're for productivity/scratch disk/VMs. NVMe and M.2 are not the same thing, M.2 is a form factor.
The Ryzen lineup comes with surprisingly good stock coolers. consider using them over any <$30 cooler.

Why do we tolerate computer niggers /g/?

The farmer is not fixated upon his sickle.
The architect is not fixated upon his ruler.
And yet this board is full of threads where tools are treated as the end in itself, rather than the means to it.

Where does this juvenile fixation upon consumer goods stem from, and how do we fix it? How do we discourage users here from being computer niggers? Personally I think moving all graphics card discussion to >>>/v/ would be a good first step. /g/ should be a scientific board, not a computer nigger board.

It's free as in freedom; therefore its name is whatever anyone wants it to be. If you took debian sources and compiled the debian kernel like you do gentoo's, installed portage, and uninstalled dpkg/apt. Is it still debian or is it gentoo now? Or is it some wierd hybrid that needs a name? The answer is, it doesn't matter, it's your's once you've downloaded it. So, name it what you want.

It's time to buy a new phone, is S8 worth it, or should I by S7 half price? My one and only concern is the camera. Apparently the software is upgraded, but how much does that mean for the picture quality I wonder.

>>
>>61271122
The S8 lags and shit
The screen resolution is too much for the 835 processor so wait until the resolution is supported and Samsung learn how to optimise an OS
Samsung are easily the worst manufacturer when it comes to smartphones, they are the apple of smartphones, they market with buzz words like "infinity display" to reel in normies

Dont fall for it
Get the oneplus 3T
Its cheap since the oneplus 5 is out
Dont get the 5 since it has bootloop and screen issues that oneplus dont want to fix plus its the exact same as the oneplus 3T
You can also mod and root the oneplus 3T without voiding the warranty

get the S8 OP, it's a bliss and bluetooth 5.0 in the snapdragon 835 is simply fantastic if you rely on lots of bluetooth connections

I doubt he brute-forced it, there might be an exploit for your router. In such case he will do it again and it won't take long. Have you updated the router's firmware?
>>
>>61271046
nope. not a big fan of having to update firmware. always paranoid something will fuck up.

router is a SmartRg 505n, do you know of any exploits for it. i have an old WRT54g that i am going to flash and i will probably put the 505n into bridge mode.

I came to the same conclusion when checking out the configurations lately.

That's not to say Apple makes better devices, but when it comes to brand new laptops, ThinkPads aren't an obvious choice to me.
>>
you can find used 'like new' top of the line thinkpads for a third of the price of new ones. used macbooks cost almost as much as new ones even if they're several years old

Should I install LibreBoot or CoreBoot ? Is it stable ? Is it safe ?

What do you want to get out of it?
>>
>>61270878

if your machine supports libreboot (big if) then the only downside to using it over coreboot is that it might be an older version and might require some manual work arounds

otherwise libreboot is literally just coreboot deblobbed with some independent fixes but mostly focuses on making the install process painless
