Hey I've seen some guides on how to make one of these things from Stargate, but what about function?
What can I cram in the thing to hold some serious power?
>>1114893
>What can I cram in the thing to hold some serious power?
lithium ion batteries, remove protection circuitry
fireworks
gasoline

I always wanted to play with a small hydrogen fuel cell, so maybe that to charge a battery.

Hey I made a knife by grinding a jointer blade and wrapping it with cotton twine. The twine is on there tight, but is there some sort of coating that I can soak into the twine and make it hard?
I first tried hot glue but that turned out to be a disaster (fucking hot glue thread) because it wouldn't wick into the cotton. I was thinking I would try boiled linseed oil cut with a bit of paint thinner next. Any thoughts?

I don't want to mess with epoxies and similar crap.

I have a few ideas, but I don't think you're going to be able to get a hold of the necessary materials in prison.
Hi I have this bathroom door that is tough to close on the inside. I really have to pull on it to have it close to the latch. There are no problems with the latches which 90% of videos say. I think it's somewhere with the hinges because naturally it's ajar slightly. Any thoughts or guides?
>>1114764
I found this: http://www.digitaltrends.com/home/fix-hard-close-door-using-toothpicks/

Is it catching, as in the wood swelled and needs to be planed?

The screws on the bottom hinge of my front door become loose over time and the door hangs funny. It's the screws at the bottom of the door jamb.
Hi /diy/,
I don't normally hang around here but I need some help with something. I do metalsmithing with scrap and stuff i buy from local hardware stores, and I'm wondering what your favorite metal is. For aesthetic, craft or performance, whatever. Take my survey please, it's important to me and it only takes a minute.
http://www.strawpoll.me/12102316/r
Metals should be chosen by intended use, not as "favorites" unless you are only asking jewelry makers.
BTW if you have commercial metal suppliers in your country you can often get much better deals than expensive hardware store markups, and many suppliers have "cutoffs" they sell even cheaper. Best to visit them in person to see what's in the pile. Ditto machine shops.
>>1114771
metals can be aesthetic though, im just asking what metal you like
>>1114772
>In all things have no preferences.
> Miyamoto Mushashi
I like what works for a given task, I don't approach a task looking to use a specific metal (unless it's lying around as scrap and the part isn't critical)
You are doing art, right? Use metal colors to create the image you want. Perhaps collecting images of bare metal and of different surface finishes will help you choose, because metal plus finish = art.

I blew up my kitchen sink drain and need to patch it. I'm thinking of buying a rubber hose clamps and putting the old piece in and hoping it'll do the trick. any other alternatives ?
>>1114702
just replace the tube section. patching is not durable idea.
>>1114702
>just replace the tube section.
The tee is what's fucked
get fiberglass tape for drywall
or piece of window screen fabric
or piece of fiberglass repair tape
wrap joint with tape
mix and apply fiberglass resin
wait two hours
apply second coat
don't use drain until resin has cured
apply

Or epoxy the chunk back on and use tie wire too hold it in place
Riddle me this /diy/:
I am attempting to make a 2'' in bulkhead fitting via the parts in the image. However, when I attempt to screw them completely together, I cannot. Why is this? even when I sand down the threading as to create less friction between the two screwing parts, still I fail. What is happening here, and how can I get them to screw all the way together? Why do they sell them as male/female parts, yet they do not go together as one would think? Am I just fucking retarded?
are the male and female threads the same length?
>>1114685
Yes, but it only goes in this far.
>>1114687
you, surely, are not screwing these together only with your hands?
Hello /diy/
I come to you today seeking guidance on mending this wrist wrap I have. As seen in the picture, the loop has come undone from the wrap itself and is falling off. Is this something a retard like myself is capable of fixing on their own or should I take this to a tailor? I imagine it's like a five minute job tops and it just needs to be sewn back on, I think. Due to the high amount of stress it must handle, I don't know if there is a special procedure that needs to be followed
The other one is falling apart too
Sorry wrong picture

What do you think of the LifeEdited apartments? I think they're pretty cool but find it hard to imagine being able to actually do many of the things they do, particularly where I am located. No rental properties here allow you to make sweeping modifications like the ones seen in the project. The overall concept I approve of though.
It's not a bad idea if you live in a terrible city where apartments are tiny.
The cost of the modifications is much more than it would cost to just buy a few hundred more sqft in most cities though.
>>1114587
Seriously move.
There are soooooooo many places that you could live and own, not rent. (My renters pay my mortgages).
Too many people are seemingly trapped by comfort zones and habits when they should relocate to a more economic place to live.
>>1114688
That's easy to say but for a lot of us there are more opportunities in the city. There's nothing I'd love more than to relocate to the country but there's very little work.
I want to get more handy and build my own furniture, at least simple things like desks or a murphy bed. How would I go about learning to do this? I don't own any tools beyond those meant for working with small electronics.
>>1114386
Buy tools, practice
Same as any other hobby.
Why build furniture? The wood you buy and build a fuck ugly desk out of will cost you more than just buying what you want.
Start with basic things like moulding, door frames, etc.
>>1114390
I was under the impression you could save money by learning to build your own furniture. At the very least I could build a kickin' desk, and I'm bothered by the prices I see for pre-built murphy beds going off of that example. I also find it meaningful to teach myself new skills, and my handy skills are quite lacking.
What kinds of tools do you buy for woodworking anyway? I'm a level 0 in this field.
Saw, hammer, and drill. Use untreated pine and then practice and make mistakes. You will not get good overnight and before you know it you'll be turning your garage into a woodshop, but you'll still be making mistakes and learning.

so at work we are getting ready to clean out one of our bolt barns a half million dollars worth of bolts are going to the scrapper because corporate wants it gone
well my boss said I can have about 20-30 bolts with washer and nuts
its mostly galvanized inch and a half and inch and a quarter bolts I can get anywhere from 3 to 35 inch long bolts
whats a good project for them I hate to pass up this opportunity because they are brand new bolts that are over 50$ a piece to buy them
pic kind of related its what i do at my job
>>1114204
Build a roller coaster in your Mom's back yard.
>>1114204
>its mostly galvanized inch and a half and inch and a quarter bolts I can get anywhere from 3 to 35 inch long bolts
take 15 each of each size (1.25 & 1.5) of the 35" long bolts and a box of nuts and washers for each. set them in a dark corner of your garage and use as needed
Scrap prices are in the shitter so if they go to scrapper and you want more, visit scrapper afterwards and get 'em for pennies per pound.
I'd get the long ones since you can shorten them using a cutoff wheel.
So I've got two fresh dead rabbits here still dripping blood and I've decided to make a fur hat out of them. Can anyone help me with starting out, how to make the fur usable etc.

I've wanted to learn how to fix vintage electronics (reel to reel, cassette players, valve amplifiers, turntables)
But the only guy who does it in my city is retiring soon.
I want to start my own business doing it, but I have no idea where to start.
I have a faulty sony portable tape recorder and an aiwa reel to reel I want to fix.
But I have nowhere to gain the knowledge.
I would literally work for peanuts if someone would teach me.
Please, please help.
>>1113850
ask the guy if he is willing to teach you
other than that, prepare to make a small fortune out of a large one
>>1113860
Any books or resources you could reccomend?

FUCK THAT, LET'S DO THIS IN THE MOST DIFFICULT MANNER POSSIBLE
So my friends messed with my toilet and I have no idea what to do. The tube is disconnected, and I have no idea where this metal thingy goes.
I don't want to call my landlord to fix it. Please help.
>>1113667
Looks like you are in shitty situation. Post photo little bit more far so we can see the whole construction.
Water comes out of the red circle when I activate the valve. Then it just doesn't stop, i'm guessing the tube is supposed to be plugged to it but I don't know what to plug it to
