Habitat was one off the world's first graphics based MMO's, available on the Commodore 64 back in 1986 and it functioned over QLink, the precursor to AOL.

You could go into the world and do a bunch of stuff, and it was basically the game that started online gaming and the MMO genre both.

Some hackers and coders have started a project to bring the game back online on a new server of sorts, and just released the source code on GitHub.

There's a very real chance we could have access to the worlds first MMO that only lived for a few years on Commodore 64 soon.

What does /vr/ think of this game?

I thought it was okay. It could've used more variety in level and enemy design.

The AVGN did an episode of this game back when he was okay (no bully please). I also watched the speed run of the game on youtube some time ago. It's about what you'd expect of an ljn game.

So I was at a flea market and noticed that the retro game area had a loose cart of Chrono Trigger for $60 and a loose cart of Earthbound for $70. Prices on amazon and Ebay are in the 200s. Is it worth it and which one is more of a bargain?

You'll regret it if you don't purchase either.

Both are a great deal, but If your looking to spend less than 100 bucks, go with CT.

It is true. And no I'm not retarded. Just didn't have that much cash on me dude. Wasn't planning on buying anything.

So I recently picked up an Apple 2e setup. (pic related)

I have been trying to figure out how to build a game library by downloading games online and transferring them to the Apple via the cassette audio input.

I have successfully loaded Pro Dos and the ADTpro software via the audio port.

I have also downloaded some .dsk disk images of various games. Whats the next step... how do I successfully load the games on the old computer, and have the machine write them to a blank 51/4" disk?

Any other Apple ][ enthusiasts on here?

Sega Saturn emulation any good? Wanting to play Shining Force 3

There are three emulators, one is Windows only, the second requires a 64bit i7 to run fine, the third is cross platform but barely runs games fine.

So no, there are no useful Saturn emulators.

I mostly played JRPGs, Vehicular Combat, Sim Games, and RTS as a kid and I wanted to play some retro games outside of those genres. I'm looking for good platformers, metroidvanias, SHMUPS, etc. Something that involves a more active kind of gameplay and a feeling of skill progression.

I no longer have my old consoles, so it would have to be emulated.

Is it just me or does it drive anyone else crazy when people get such obvious facts wrong about retro games.
I mean, I don't play games anymore, but by the same token I also don't make videos talking about them. But you'll be damn sure if I did I would at least know what I was talking about.

>I don't play games anymore, but by the same token I also don't make videos talking about them.
Yet you make a thread about them.
>>
Because talking about retrogames became a trend in the recent years, but most of people who makes videos about them doesn't necessarily grew up with them, so their information comes exclusively from the web, so they can get a lot of wrong information without knowing. And the people who watch these videos are in the same group, so they don't know the information is wrong. The people who actually know shit don't watch this kind of videos. Well, I think that's it.

What games handled going from 2D to 3D well?

A lot of originally 2D games that went 3D felt like they got worse or tried changing the formula.

Mario 64 had more open-level designs focused on exploring rather than platforming
Zelda got slow combat system in Ocarina of Time
Kirby never even went 3D but Kirby 64 with 3D graphics had insanely slow combat and movement speed.

Obviously there's a bunch of other franchises that had to go 3D. Let's discuss if they did a good job or not.

Shout out to Capcom who still had 2D Mega Man games. They were declining in quality but atleast they kept it 2D and made experimental 3D games.

Castlevania on N64 was good. I think it was a good transition to 3D.
Rayman 2 is good and all, but it totally lost the aesthetic and charm of the first game.

grand theft auto
>>
Despite Mario changing formula, it was for the best. Many series that didn't transition well tried to keep the exact same gameplay.
I enjoyed Earthworm Jim 3, though it wasn't as good as the originals, I thought it played very well despite the shit camera.
