/vr/ please help a fool. In the picture is my old HDD from a computer that stopped working, I've had this sitting around for a while as it has a huge chunk of stuff from the website Underground-Gamer. Pretty much a cornucopia of emulation goodness including multiple complete sets and tons of shit that would just be impractical to try and get off the internet.
I collect real stuff as well but the thing I want off of here most of all is my mame set up. It was beautiful and perfect and was pretty much a full set that had been manicured and hand-sorted by myself which was not a quick process. Me and the kids used to boot it up and find exactly what we wanted with our favorites lists and controller set-ups and I honestly don't think I would have the patience to try to do it all over again from scratch.
Anyways, the hard drive had soft ware issues but physically it is fine. I am trying to set it up for usb as an external drive but it seems to be a bigger pain in the ass than I thought.
I bought a USB adapter kit off eBay but by the time it got here it had been about three weeks and it all kinds of extra wired and didn't even have a power supply. I ordered a cheap power supply, took two more weeks then it fried when I plugged it in because it was some cheap ass shit from Hong Kong. I'll post a pic of the HDD and burnt power supply in a second, but honestly, I just don't know if I'm doing it right and I don't want to risk fucking it up so I'm looking for some guidance. If anyone knows more than me (ie. anyone reading this) please hold my hand and tell me exactly what I need to do/buy to set this up for usb on my new computer..
HDD connections, not sure what the 9 pins in the middle are for or if I even need them, the adaptor kit didn't have anything for them

Let's discuss FROM's retro games ITT.
Can anyone confirm that the US King's Field works properly on a PS3? I bought a copy on eBay but it kept freezing. I'm almost positive it was the beat ass disk, I ended up returning it. I wanted to see if anyone else has played it on PS3 before I spend another $25 on a loose copy.
Dude dank souls lmao
>>3448391
wait what the fuck
what part of Shadow Tower was that
Why did it fail /vr/
>>3448191
Because Sega really didn't give a shit at that point. They knew there was no real copyright protection and released it anyway. Even in spite of all that it still did alright, but this was planned to be their final console.
>>3448191
Because Sega failed with the Saturn and they didn't really do that much with the Dreamcast. They forced it out way too quickly and had no idea what to focus the system on.
I still need to buy one of these. What's a fair price for a mint one?
When was the last time a developer put in effort into a compilation?
Namco Museum for the PlayStation was fucking awesome because it was an interactive world full of information. Instead of being an all inclusive menu, each game had it's own virtual little world and there was even a theater room where you could see individual sprites and listen to music.
>>3448094
Just saw a video, it's pretty dope that they simulated the cartridge lock-on for Knuckles.
>>3448106
It also has a 3D hub world with mini game challenges and museums for art, videos, music.
Where do you guys go when you need to find Video Game Sound Effects?
bump for interest

Now you can steal old sound effects for your indie "retro" pixel piece of crap.

I got this here joystick with some old arcade games on it last week and I found a couple games I'd never played before. The local game store has a 60-in-1 arcade machine and I haven't played many of them. What games should I look for in arcades?
General arcade nostalgia thread? What games are you best at?
>>3447692
Rally-X has a "Charanging stage". Who translated this game??
>>3447692
Those games are all great, I'd also recommend Mappy, Pac&Pal, Toypop, and Youkai Douchuuki (the last one is their first 16 bit game) also in terms of general arcade games, I feel like Son Son, Fantasy Zone, and Pirate Ship Higemaru need more attention.
>>3447783
I have Mappy on another joystick, and I'd heard of Fantasy Zone, but I don't think I'd heard of any of the others. Thanks.
When did the MegaMan series become bad?
megaman 5 and x4
>>3447662
>Classic
All are good, but 7 and 8 make some weird design choices.
>X
Went to shit at X5. X3 wasn't that good also.
>Zero
Nothing really bad here either, though 4 is too short and easy.
>Battle Network
Definitely 4.
>>3447696
>but 7 and 8 make some weird design choices
How so?
I like X3 more than X2 btw. Their bosses and soundtrack are better imo, and being able to play with Zero is priceless.
Would morphological filtering or other kinds of filtering have been done if the technology was available at the time? Do official game company emulators add this "feature" ?
>>3447295
No they just would have made the games in a higher native resolution like actually happened.
it would be certainly interesting if the technology was available and games designed sprites with the filtering in mind
>>3447296
This, filters rely on higher resolution displays to enhance lower resolution images (when it comes to retro emulators). Sprite based artwork of the time is a direct result of the resolution limitations of older displays. Without the resolution limitation they would have just drawn larger sprites.
What are some other games where I can go around beating up old people?
>this game is almost retro now
I mean, when you think about it, Castlevania
Star Trek video games thread!
Why does Birth of the Federation list Miranda-class starships as destroyers?
>>3447186
Didn't we have this same thread last week? How did no one answer then? I didn't read because Star Trek is pretty shit but I'll give you your answer now. It's because the people making the game didn't give a fuck about the franchise they were making it for so getting details right like Maryanne-class ships as destroyers.
Because every time you see them in TV shows and movies they're fucking shit up and the TV shows and movies are far far more important than anything else no matter how many shitty comic books or pulpy paperback novels you might have read. Shatner would tell you the same thing.
>>3447196
No, my thread got deleted even though it was video game related and a retro title.
Only had two people reply. One telling me to "kys" and the other telling him to stop using that shitty meme.
Real helpful stuff, ya know?
So what Dreamcast games should i burn? And got any tips on how to make the DC look better on a current tv?
Start with examples from your favorite genres but literally 95% of the DC library is B+ grade or better so it's hard to go wrong unless you try to force yourself to play something too far beyond you.
>>3447173
What kind of games do you like?
Im up for a bit of everything. Just wanna see what you guys think is best for DC. Never really play it much. Pick up a CRT today so gonna give it a shot on it.
>PC-E version of Cocoron is complete
>never released
>just sitting in some vault somewhere
>graphically superior version of Akira Kitamura's last game never released
This angers me to no end. Porting games between the Famicom and PCE is pretty easy since they share the same CPU.
Where they may have gone wrong is that they made the protagonist and enemy sprites too big. It's a common mistake that many games of that generation make (MM7-8 do the same error).
At the very least, it would be interesting to just compare the two versions.
>>3447170
some french guy has it and refuses to release a rip of it, he was even offered over $1000 to do it by the PCE community...
>>3447202
Source?
Game kinda sucks anyway. Play Little Samson for a good Megaman-like.
Hello there, /vr/
I've got stuck with a shitty acer notebook till October, it won't run technically anything made after 2007 so what are the best strategic games in connection with management/governance?
Pic related, been hitting this and Doom for a while, should be a clue
>>3447127
OpenTTD
Roller Coaster Tycoon
Maxis Sim games
CAESAR III
>>3447143
I was eager to try Caesar III but doesn't matter where I download it from, I just can't install it, duh
>>3447148
Where does your installation fail?
Is there any N64 games I'm missing out on?
I have DKR, Turok Rage Wars, Puzzle League, Perfect Dark, Pokemon Stadium, Mario Party, Bomber Man 64, and Goemon's.
I'm looking for multiplayer games, co-op is a plus. But Multiplayer of any sort is welcome.
I also don't remember much about the many games I once played on the console. But if you guys know of any smooth games that'd be great to hear about. Games like Mischief Makers don't feel AS clunky and some of the other N64 library.
>>3447118
that's old nintendo on your pic, man
>>3447124
Ah sorry man, not a /vr/ user usually. Just picked this bomberman because it's how I feel about the n64 library.
>>3447135
i was pretending to be retarded
I think, you should have SSB and GoldenEye.
