This thread is for the discussion of games written by Hiroyuki Kanno (a.k.a. Yukihiro Kenno)
Examples incude:
DESIRE
Xenon
YU-NO
Eve: Burst Error
Reminder to use spoiler tags (press Ctrl + S)
let me guess
none are playable in english
anyway, what makes this guy special
>>3455805
YU-NO is in english.
>>3455805
Of the games listed in the OP all but Xenon have been translated into English. As for the second question, Kanno was one of the most influential writers in the Japanese VN/adventure game industry Some of his games have left such a big mark that they've even been getting remakes as of late, such as Eve Burst Error R and the soon to be released YU-NO remake for PS4/Vita.
Is there a way to play this with the real time clock without having the actual cartridge?
I'm using Higan Accuracy and it resets the clock whenever the game is loaded so I have to use save states to keep my progress.
I don't want to let the emulator run the entire time just so my virtual pet hungers.
Is there a patch that allows the calendar to be set past 2014?
>Higan
I don't understand why people like this.
Just use Snes9x OP, it actually works.
Yes, I'm talking as someone who played Tengai Makyou on it.
>>3455735
I don't think anyone has been working on hacking this game in four years. So the answernto your second question is likely a big, fat no.
>clock only goes up to 2014
ruined
I recently just purchased a copy of Estpolis and was trying to find a translation patch (Japanese just isn't good enough yet). I only seem to find patches for Estpolis 2, was there never a patch made for 1?
>>3455702
why would there be one? The English version released shortly after the Japanese.
>(Japanese just isn't good enough yet)
It's never going to get good if you never use it.
We all know the Commodore 64 had a shit ton of games, so post some of your favorites.
Best version was on the C64
hard ass game
One of the best. Also Bubble Ghost.
THE LAST 3 FUCKING FIGHTS IN THIS GAME
WHAT THE FUCK WERE THEY THINKING
>>3455513
I spent 2 hours because of all the fucking dumbass animations and time it takes between attacks, and still died to random chance because the fucking thing decided to use two moves in a row.
Fuck if I am starting that over.
How do you know they're the last three fights if you haven't beaten them yet? There might be more bosses.
>>3455545
The type of people who have problems with post 80's JRPGs are the type of people who look up walkthroughs before playing.
Likely he's backed himself into a corner by knowing exactly where to go without ever exploring, thus ending up too weak. And without using multiple saves. Rookie mistake, that.
Finding crap in the ps1 version that isn't in the cps2 version!
>>3455369
Why does that fairy want to eat that cockroach?
>>3455380
Well she won't eat the bread you give her.
Is there any difference between the PS1 and SS? They were released on the same day so I expect none.
Even on the lowest difficulty the game is way too hard for me. I'm barely done reading the question before the time is up. And way too many questions for things I have no clue about.
I'm trying to remember the name of a game for NES.
It was a side scroller, a little bit like castlevania. You had some weapon that you found parts of through the game. It had a world progress map thing like golden axe/wizards and warriors 2. It ended in some sort of bone castle thing.
Anyone remember what it was called?
8 Eyes?
Holy Diver?
?
Frankenstein?

Just finished playing this bad boy for the first time. Totally lived up to the hype.
It wasn't without its flaws though. The skill and weapon system was pretty unbalanced with some skills (hacking, maintenance) being almost mandatory while others like research being almost useless. The hacking part itself was also pretty bad. It was just a random chance of clicking random nodes and hope you get it right.
Still, the atmosphere and soundtrack to the game were great. I really enjoyed it.
I'm surprised you managed to finish it given how awful the game got past the recreation deck.
>>3455054
research is pretty good. 25% damage bonus to half of the enemies is pretty good.
ss2 was the first game that comes to my mind that even attempts anything remotely related, so unbalanced skill trees is to be expected. actually it was kind of the norm back then. actually, I think it's a mark of good game design. the sorts of choices you make should be, at the outset, somewhat comprehensible in terms of what is good lng term. bad game design is when the underwater basket weaving tree is better than the guns tree in a shooting game.
but yeah. ss2 is in my top 5. too bad the designer went full sjw
>>3455054
Yeah, it's a bit obtuse. The OSA path is the best, worth more modules, but then actually getting the high level psi powers seems not worth it.
Let's settle this once and for all: objectively speaking, what is the superior Aladdin videogame?
http://www.strawpoll.me/11087050
>>3454568
Genesis one sold over twice as much, on a system that had less units sold worldwide (and performed xbox-bad in Japan).
There you go, I settled it for you.
>>3454579
Huh. Well, there you go.
GENESIS WINS.
Both games are good, I think it'd hard to say which one is "objectively" better, as people have different preferences and tastes.
Personally I find the Capcom game to be overall better and more enjoyable to play.
For those that watch Cinemassacre videos, does anyone else think James is getting lazy? He doesn't seem to be putting out many videos lately. He only did three AVGN episodes this entire year.
Meanwhile, Mike Matei does 3 videos a week plus live streams.. James used to make 15-20 AVGN videos a year and do Monster Madness at the same time. Isn't making videos his job?
>>3454556
James gave up after his garbage movie flopped. It's all about Mike now. Which is for the better anyway. Mike is the better gamer of the two. I will always like James, but Mike is more knowledgeable than James is about vidya
ah who cares i wanna see more livestreams with mike and his hot g/f wherein the chat talks abot his ding a ling the whole time lmao :D
Is there sometihng you like more in 8-bit platforms than in 16-bit platforms?
They tend to have more interesting and exploitable glitches.
>>3454541
There isn't much difference except 8bit are usually more simplistic. I guess that's a good thing if you prefer a more straightforward experience.
>>3454541
Not really.
If I had to make something up, they're more "blocky." Like they lack slopes like Sonic or Yoshi's Island have in spades. More emphasis on platforming than running.
What are /vr/ thoughts about Digimon World 1?
I think the game was flawless, 'cause it represents well what Digimon were originally meant to be: Fighting Virtual Pets.
Surprisingly challenging. Somewhat unforgiving.
I like it but I like Jade Cocoon and Monster Rancher better
>>3454537
I live in Europe, so you might already know what I think of this pile of shit.
Cant get agumon to digivolve to greymon no matter what.
Seems like I gotta make him stupid cause centaurimon stat is INT, oh well
Hi guys, I lost my SMT save state a while ago. I'm looking over a Gamefaqs guide to try and find out where I was. I think I was at the bit where you have to go to the American Embassy.
I've never downloaded a save state before. How do I do it? Also where can I find Japanese save states for this game?
Thanks
>where you have to go to the American Embassy.
Why do you want it if you hate this game that much that you can't replay its first 20 minutes?
>>3454497
Because it's like the 4th time I've had to start it again. And it was more than 20 fucking minutes
>>3454509
Play on turbo until you reach the part where you were before. You could probably cut it down to 7-10 minutes that way.
Your thoughts on 3DNES
Don't see the point. In that screencap it looks like a pixel world is exploding out of the center of the screen, like something you'd see in an old "WOW EXTREEEEME GRAPHICS, DUDE!" commercial.
Cool in theory, but like most gimmick things, you'll boot it up, play a few games for maybe 10 minutes or do before going "Okay, I'm good." and never think of it ever again.
I can't imagine ever beating a game like that.
3DNES will have to be tailored differently for every single game, of which there are hundreds.
