What is the best Star Wars game?
My vote goes for Shadows of the Empire or Rouge Squadron.
The best Star Wars game isn't retro, so I'll go with Dark Forces.

The level design can be wonky, but it's still a really good game.

I'm looking to get into the Metal Slug series
What's considered the best game, or at least the best to start with, and what's the best way to play them short of an AES?
Metal Slug 3 is considered by many to be the pinnacle of the series. If you have a PS4, Wii or PS2, the Metal Slug Anthology is probably the cheapest way to play the majority of the titles, unless you're cool with emulating.
You can skip Metal Slug 2, as Metal Slug X is essentially a patched/fixed version of it.
>>3725843
I have a Wii and PS2, but I remember hearing bad things when I think "Metal Slug on the Wii"
So Metal Slug X is also good then?
>>3725846
From what I remember, the Wii version has some slowdown when the screen has a ton of stuff happening at once (same with the PS2), but it won't completely ruin the experience.
And yes, Metal Slug X is a lot of fun.
I fucking love this shit. There's something so pure about it that feels quintessentially how a game should feel when you look at it.
What are your favorite black background games?
Jetpac is also fantastic.
>>3725735
if you go far enough back almost every game is a "black background game"
as far as games that were doing it afterward
wizards & warriors and smb1 come to mind, but it's not for the whole game in either of them

The night levels in Mario really do look great.
I just love the aesthetic man.

Did it actually have a good story and writing?
no it just had a lot of writing. the writing wasn't very good and it turns out the plot of it is like 3 pages
Any specific recommendations regarding version and patches for a first time playthrough? Missed out on this one.
>>3725617
the plot seriously consists of "oh no who am I" at the start, then a bunch of adventure game type bad dungeon master fetch quests and cliches, then you meet ravel, then more dumb adventure game stuff and cliches, then the game ends.
if this game was a whodunnit, the answer would be that a wizard did it
everytime the answer is just "a wizard did it" or "magic lmao" you can just stop right fucking there, that's not a good story
everything about the combat is terrible btw
What demos/trials/sharewares did you play a shitload of?

>>3725362
I remember it being fun but terrifying at parts. Like one part you get turned in to a wooden maquette doll and lumberjacks come after you.
Looks fun.
Wow, you can play the game as a completely nude chick.

Have any of you ever liked a remake/ reboot of a classic game?

>>3725318
Don't know if it's considered a reboot, but pic related REALLY feels like one in many points, even so I greatly prefer the Rune Factory series to any recent and "proper" Harvest Moon game. Recent entries in HM just doesn't feel the same, but RF still managed to hook me in a unexpected way. Also, remakes of old Square Enix games like DQ1~4 and FF1~4 are pretty good like >>3725334 said.
Bought the remaster during the christmas sale.
