>Donkey Kong Country—Super Donkey Kong
>Super Mario All-Stars—Super Mario Collection
>Kirby Super Star—Kirby's Fun Pak—Hoshi no Kirby Super Deluxe
> Super Street Fighter II X—Super Street Fighter II Turbo
> Darius Force—Super Nova
Just what was the logic behind all those name changes? Just for shits and giggles? This is so annoying sometimes, it's like everyone used to rename the games just for the heck of it. I get it sometimes it as done to avoid copyright infringement or make Engrish names sound better. But are these really the cases of it?
A lot of it is what the localization team thinks might sound better in the local market
>>3728361
Might be, but still, what's wrong with "Super Mario Collection", really? I think it's more descriptive than All-Stars. And renaming Kirby 3 times, really? Who were they trying to confuse? Super Street Fighter II Turbo is way to easy to mix up with the old Turbo, just adding to already confusing SF2 edition titles.
My most hated example is Darius Force, because AFAIK most if not all previous games were called Darius in US, including the arcade game and Darius Twin on SNES. They had an established brand, what could possibly go wrong? Copyright issues? But then they go with Super Nova, the most generic name ever?…
>>3728391
I think the Game Boy Darius and the Genesis/Master System ports of Darius II were renamed "Sagaia". Which is kinda dumb but hey, it's a cool sounding word.
did the original ps1 have any first party support?
What you mean like SIE Japan Studio, Team Ico
and Polyphony Digital?
>>3728354
did team ico make any of their retarded ''games'' for ps1 ?
SIE?
polyPHONY?
List the games anon.
>>3728357
I've already named some of the first party support for the PS1, sorry you go fetch
I haven't been here for 6 months, I think.
How are you having fun, /vr/?
By shitposting about my favorite ecelebs.
We missed you, anonymous.
>>3728294
I missed you too, anon.
I think I came to the point where I don't care about modern games, but I have a ton of /vr/ games and people who share my hobby.
It's nice to know you are always welcome with Atari or Intellivision or with Playstation and Dreamcast.
I've been playing Enduro lately. And what have you been playing, anon?
Which /vr/ game has the nicest pre-rendered backgrounds?
Resident Evil (GC)
Nah jk not retro it's obviously FFVII being one of the few games to use the unlimited creativity of pre-renders to create a highly detailed world with narrative complexity
Fear Effect.
I love pre rendered backgrounds, shame they're a lost art today
How good are you at videogames?
Not much. Being too good at videogames is degenerate.
A few ranks above casual I guess, I wouldn't call myself "good"
The games I am good at I can clear easily and speedily, and I try to avoid guides if I can, but if I'm stumped on a game for too long i will look for a strategy guide PDF if it's available..

Why do the best guys always die?
Clearly because he went R15.
>>3728272
There was an 18+ version released later.
After Yu-no most of his games started as 15+ for a few years.

Ready for NTR except without the NTR?
'Sup /vr/, how do you perform the burning drop kick in The Punisher?
Never mind, I figured it out. Apparently it only works in the Japanese version of the game.
>>3728072
Why would the Punisher have a flaming kick?
>>3728205
>Why would the Punisher have a flaming kick?
To beat up the pissants who touch the phone.
Doesn't look like there's a live DIY thread, so:
I imported a white Sega Saturn HST-3220 for Chrimbus. Yesterday I was playing some Panzer Dragoon and decided to move the Saturn from my desk to my entertainment center. Some way some how between my disconnecting it and reconnecting it, something must have went wrong, because now it refuses to boot up. The access light is on, it's getting power, and the screen seems to recognize it as something, but all I get is a black screen. Looking into it, a common problem apparently is the CD drive having a poor connection. I disconnected and reconnected the ribbon cable inside and no luck. What's wrong with my Saturn?
>>3728016
Do you have sound?
>>3728019
No, disc drive doesn't spin either.
>>3728016
black screen of death is a common issue. Not much you can do other than recapping it and hoping for the best, perhaps maybe reflowing the solder on the chips.
White saturns and all model 2s should boot up with the CD drive disconnected, they'd just get wonky sound and deformed cubes in the cd player. It's only the very very very early launch models, which will boot to black screen if the drive is not connected (almost mistook my unit for broken because of that after some tinkering).
You could also try removing the battery, leaving it like that for a few minutes, then trying to boot it up.
How much better would video games be today had corporate Sony never entered it ?
>>3727983
>had corporate Sony never entered it ?
Elaborate, trip-kun
>>3727984
sony is a corporation that only cares about money. Not rocket geometry.
In an alternative timeline where the PS1 failed just like the 3DO and the CD-i, Nintendo and Sega would still dominate the console market with japanese style games, basically an extension of the 16-bit era.
Meanwhile western games are still kept at PC.
Microsoft would have focused on PC gaming, and Gabe Newell would have never left to fund Valve. We would still be getting big box PC games, and DLC wouldn't be a thing.
So what is your favorite game /vr/? I just totaled up my hours from my carts and virtual version and I came in at just under 1700 hours. Been playing since launch and just ended another one this morning.
I used to think it was Earthbound but I'm not so sure anymore.
KoF'98. Still play it every day. It's the best casual fighter I've found.
The Legend of Zelda.
WHERE ARE THE FUCKING CATACOMBS. im really trying not to use a guide but i am a scrublord

Extreme bottom of the map through the abandoned mines.

thing of grabbing one of these
are they close to the real thing?
>>3727659
I'd have faith. I have the NES30 and NES30 Pro and they're wonderful. Since they clearly give a fuck about the end product I reckon the stick will be a work of art
http://www.raphnet-tech.com/products/n64_usb_adapter_gen3/index.php
or i could try some adapter like this
>>3727703
i have a snes30 and i like it mostly
>>3727714
What's your issue?
Should I give this a shot? I feel this will be a waste of time.
>>3727601
It's one of the best thing about HL1 imo. A great summary of the game.
It's short, but entertaining enough for a playthrough or two. It has a few nice easter eggs that will take a while to find.
Sure as hell is not OPFOR but it's still pretty good.
Want to come with me for a night out in Raccoon City?
>>3727562
>not playing the PC version
Have fun missing out on all the tiny details like the Dino Crisis poster
>>3727567
It's small details, so people will naturally have fun without it.
>>3727562
I always thought the layout of Raccoon City in RE3 was strange. All these enclosed walkways and clunky metal doors between shopping areas. Makes me wonder what it looked like when it was a functioning city.
I'm interesting in importing a super famicom from Japan, but I'm worried that my console will turn piss yellow in 5-10 years. How do I determine which ones use quality plastic?
>>3727509
That's the least of your problems it's like a new meme by the japanese sellers to horribly package Super Famicoms I have had two units arrived completely fucked.
Forgive the horrendous camera work but here arrived today
even if it does turn plastic there's numerous guides online that show you how to make them look new again
