We could talk about the god work yamagushi done arranging the Area88/un squadron soundtrack.
We could talk about Koshiro and what make him so popular and his touch so recognizable
We could talk about the experimental work of zuntata.
Matt Gray and how he blow the SID compositions away.

Dropping just youtube tracks ? nan I don't give a shit anon.

Actually, that's SaGa, not Final Fantasy. IIRC Itoken's not touched the actual Final Fantasy series.

Also, while some of this stuff isn't my genre of choice, I do have to admit I need to go do some homework on more PCE stuff. Shame it didn't have as much western exposure, there was a lot of neat stuff on there. Not too crazy about the instrument set the system used though.

... I'm also quite fond of the Downtown Nekketsu Monogatari port.
>>
>>3912959
PC98 X68K FM town have some awesome instruments. Sega CD and PCE CD2 well it CD so yeah it as good as any others lossless sound.
But People prefer MD soundtrack than the Sega CD one. Maybe because the Mega CD bombed or because it closer to a regular video game soundtrack (electronic tunes)

but yeah I didn't know the marvelous world of Japanese computers until I got there 13 years ago. it's a world of many wonder some never make it past that period some others became big names on the Optical drive consoles (saturn PS1 PS2 mostly)
With curiosity and dedication The sky is the limit.
>>
>>3912962
Disc-based systems just didn't catch on until later in the west. Didn't help that some stuff wasn't localized, and the language barrier was bigger decades ago.

There's also the difference in amperage between regions, which was also a pain.

Personall speaking, what I don't particularly enjoy about some of the PCE or 90's anime/gaming soundtracks in general was the wonky sounding synth banks they'd use. I don't mind prog rock, as you've seen with some of my recs, but some of that stuff is just silly sounding to me. And I don't mind electronic music either, I really liked Terada's work on Saru Getchu. Playing Rockman X3 on SAT/PC killed me. I had to put the SFC soundtrack back into the PC port.

Plus, there's groups like Alph Lyra or SNK's in-house band that do really good covers of their stuff electronically or with a traditional band. SNK's arranges were SO good.
>>
>>3912970
I personally don't like the SFC cause it was too limited thanks to it been sample based. some inhouse were good. the majority were too much alike.

Others systems used real synth Zilog/Yamaha couple most of the time. more freedom but need more work.

Funny you talk about Alph Lyra. as I said in the first post >>3912856
Mari Yamaguchi arranged the Area88/un squadron for SFC.
While the original arcade soundtrack was composed by Chanchacolin
aka Manami Gotoh aka Chanchacorin for rockman fanatics.

Yamagushi worked on rockman 3 too if I remember (I am not knowledgeable about the serie)
The two of them were of course regular members of Alph Lyra on that period

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CK5Y5Cqu7Oo Chanchacorin original composition (Z80/Y couple)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=snhcHU6tul4 Yamagushi sfc arranged.
She composed some tracks too like this one.
https://youtu.be/OAxahmyG0Dg?t=14m20s

A shame the best track of the arcade never make it to the snes.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kY-6ohQfJmM
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CFwcssQ5Cdg
Original and arranged by chanchacorin.

See thread are more interesting like this IMO

Lots of great music posted ITT.
The Dragon Ball Z games really have all consistently good music thanks to Kenji Yamamoto.
My favorite has to be the Super Butouden 2 soundtrack, it's different from the others because it has a more ominous feel, and more experimental compositions.
It still has the rocking DBZ game music in tracks like Vegeta, Piccolo, Trunks or Satan, but it also has the dramatic story mode music, which sounds more like RPG music: >>3912410
Or Son Gohan, the main character's theme is a hectic piano/organ solo piece that sounds like a Castlevania track.
Or Zangya and her cute girly theme
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2rMJMNyN3kQ
You wouldn't mind getting wrecked by a small alien girl if it was with this comfy ass music on the back.
My first exposure to Cell was with this game, I didn't know who he was and why did he look so funny, but the music made me feel like he was a badass motherfucker.

Saving this thread.

Xak was a series of action rpg developed by Micro cabine and play kind of like the Y's series.
I played the first msx game (can be found on emuparadise) officially released by the now closed delta soft platform. And I absolutely love it. there is a SFC version too but I don't like the design.
Need to continue the 2rd and 3rd game.
The is a cute spin off called Fray in magical adventure (the XAK 2 playlist is compilation of the 2 soundtracks)
Hope you will enjoy them.

Plagiarizing?
>>
>>3914715
been inspired by popular music of his time to give his game the right atmosphere is not the same as plagiarizing.

I know what you are talking about. Soul 2 soul Black box tracks are the closer to plagiarism than real inspiration but the rest of the video is totally unjustified. If the guy didn't cut most of the track and just choose the closer parts his video would be irrelevant.

If we go that way every Chinese cartoon composer should be flagged of plagiarism to Hollywood composer who themselves flagged of plagiarism Gustav mahler himself copied wagner.

The guy blended multiple of styles. coded his own programme. used tricks to fade sfx. His composition have a touch recognizable his sororities too.Even years later and outside of his yamaha element he style continue to have his own style on Midnight tunes or etrian. if he was a copycat his style would be just a mish mash.

I think the same about Kenji Yamamoto (guy who did most of the DBZ vidya music and some arrangements on the TV series music).
He was accused of ripping off other's music but to me it sounds more like he was inspired, most of the tracks the "ripped off" only share a small resemblance and is not a 1:1 copy.
And even then, only a handful of songs of his were "ripped off", while other dozens (or hundreds) of tracks are original. He also has a distinctive sound of his.
