So here is the story! im going with gf in thailand and especially phuket and koh samui ( we will visit koh phangan and koh tao too)
We already paid our flight to and from thailand (we arrive and depart from bangkok), one domestic flight to phuket, and our first 4 hotel nights! I want to ask if 1500-1600€ per person is a safe budget for 20 days!

Things to have in mind:
We are not going to buy too much alcohol,
We will spend most of the time at the beach swimming and sunbathing,
2-3 daily trips like phi-phi daily tour and james bond island, with 50-70€ per person, each tour,
2 more domestic flights, to koh samui and bangkok with 80 euros each!
We seek normal hotels, not luxury, just a good rate in bookingdotcom!

Sorry for long post, please stay in topic <3

IMO there is no reason to do Phuket AND Koh Samui.
>>
>>1066584
I would say either, along with all the other places listed. But I am burned out on Bro level partying and buckets.

Your budget is more than enough even with flights. Al the places you listed are more expensive and full of scams. Read up before you go. Not huge scams, but realize people will try to over charge the hell out of you etc.

Thanks mate! I asked in tripadvisor too and they told me that my budget isnt enough! im a bit worried!

Going on a 7 night Western Carribean cruise around Memorial Day (Mexico, Belize, Honduras, and Grand Cayman)
1st cruise.
Questions I have are:
A. Alcohol plan or pay as you go

B. Excursions through ship, buy on shore, or venture on own?

Also cruise general. Share tips and stories and what not.

>A. Alcohol plan or pay as you go

How much do you drink? If it is "a whole Hell of a lot," then buy the plan -- but the Plan is designed to make money for the ship, not for you to save money: most people drink less than the break even point. The advantage, though, is that you don;t have to worry about a budget-killing surprise at the end.

>B. Excursions through ship, buy on shore, or venture on own?

The couple of times I've cruised, I booked shore excursions online in the weeks before traveling, or just wandered. If you DO book once on board, do so early or the first choices may be booked solid.
>>
Experience cruiser here. I've been on about 50-60 cruises since I was born (I was one of those babies you see on cruise ships).

Ask me anything.

This>>1066515 anon did a good job of answering your first two questions. I'd just add that soda plans might be something you want to consider unless you really like unsweetened iced tea....and that I highly recommend booking excursions at every port of call. They're reasonably priced and offer the best of wherever you are.

There really isn't shit going on this week. You're better off asking locals. Despite 4channers getting assblasted about it, their subreddit is active and useful.

I'm seriously considering just packing some shit and traveling solo around the USA in my Mustang.

How far and how long will $900 take me? How do I even go on about it? I'm a 19 year old college kid btw.

if you spend it all on gas,

900/4*30 = 6,750 miles round trip with 30 miles per gallon at $2 a gallon.

if you spend $ on food, lodging and entertainment, then you travel less miles.

I wish it was more rugged here in USA so taking a SUV or Truck was more practical doing a roadtrip around the states. I hate how a boring Honda civic is the single best option for this goal. I wanted to get car stickers from every state I visited ,but I think it would look lame on a civic compared to like a landrover

You can walk p much everywhere or get a bus if you're feeling lazy. There's also a metro but I've never used it.

I haven't been but I always thought that palace looked dream like and imagined a remote settlement at the peak of a mountain. But it's always purposefully photographed from that angle that makes it look like the top of a mountain. Seeing it like the photo I'm posting really deflated the tibet fantasy for me.

Hello /trv/, I had recently booked a trip on Trafalgar tours for March 7-17 for about $4000 for my girl and I. The trip includes lodging and travel between countries along with various tours. Unfortunately the cunts over there called me and left a message stating that they had to cancel due to lack of reservations.

My question to you is, should I try to remake my trip on my own by booking separate hotels and transportation or just try searching for other tour options? I don't get to travel much so I don't know a whole lot about this stuff. My job won't allow me to change my vacation dates either. Am I fucked?

>4000$ for 10 days

Easily. You might not be sleeping in 5* hotels in every city but you can do it for that kind of money.
>>
You're more than fine. I would highly recommend you to pick less cities tho, think about two or three tops. You'll enjoy them more, will be less stressed about being in time with your schedule, will pay less for moving from one city to another and will get to know the cities better.
>>
$400 a day for a euro tour? mate if you're flights are already booked, just wing it. you can do this trip for way cheaper

Cold and flat. Unless it's summer. Then it's hot and flat.

If you're in the Black Hills then replace "flat" with "hilly".

If you're on one of the Indian reservations, add "and poor" after "flat".

Why do you want to know?

>I want to travel to London in March with a friend. We will stay a week or two. Is it safe in and around London?
It's simply too big of a city to feel statistically worried. The usual advice is staying tuned to the news for any published threats (if they publish them), avoiding certain areas that would seem like a target (oh, I'd skip any major soccer games, anything public like a demonstration, or national holiday gatherings). That's just me, playing it extra safe.
>>
>>1065488
Yea that's true. Tho we are going to see some of the sights like the big ben, the tower bridge etc. But avoiding anything public seems like a good idea.
We dont know where to stay yet. Are there any areas around london that tend to be more dangerous and we should not stay?

Hey /trv/
Has anybody here drove along the Alaska Highway ?
If so, what were your budget ? Did you had trouble finding accommodations ? What did you do ?

Can you share your experience, I'm willing to make the drive this summer, from Vancouver to Fairbanks (probably)

Get yourself a Milepost, even a used one on ebay or something and plan it out. There will be issues getting a room in some locations at some times of year.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Milepost
http://www.themilepost.com/
The digital version might not have the great photos and local ads that aid your ideas for stopping, such as for restaurants. The best part of the book is that it identifies mile by mile, what the heck you're looking at, every random homestead, fork in the road, statue, whatever! Great book, and thick as a phone book.

In my opinion, the best part of Alaska is Anchorage to Denali (to kantishna experience), and a little side trip on the scenic Glenn highway in the Mat-su valley. And, then Anchorage south the arm down to seward and over to Homer. Get out on the water at both end points there for great experiences The other "best part" is the maritime highway accessible stuff. And, Vancouver is of course worth a visit. So, most people visit AK 3x to see it all, or spend 2 weeks doing 1 and then the other part. You'd need a plane to visit the very remote stuff. Ferries are too expensive for tourists, more for moving your vehicle to your house once. The very common route is really just a "OMG I drove the whole thing" from the US to Alaska. It's not incredibly interesting, see above, it's just a means to an end. I'm not trying to be negative, but people fly instead, or pick up a cruise out of vancouver/seattle ports, because they know. Fairbanks is military/oil service people getting closer to their actual outposts. It's boring.
>>
>>1065474
Thank you very much for your answer, I wasn't aware of the milepost, this is indeed a great idea and it will help until the beginning of the trip.

I have to admit that I'm pretty sure the road is as you describe but I also have to say that it is what I'm looking for as well, in addition to sight seeing in between.

If I understand correctly I would be better off driving to fairbanks but not to stay there long and then to drive to the coast around anchorage, homer or valdez ? How is Seward ?

Cheers

Do yourself a favor and go. The longer you can stay, the more you will enjoy it. A one day trip there is completely wasted. I spent a little over 3 weeks there my first time and meet some of the nicest people that became my closest friends. I have been back once since and will be heading there again in the next couple weeks.

Slabs can be whatever you want to make of it. Tons of old white people use it as a place to park their RVs in the winter (snowbirds), There is also a big crust punk/train hopper scene going on there that is pretty awesome. Tons of young artist/hippy people come out in the winter time too, If that sounds like your scene be sure to check out East Jesus. Its a community within slabs that will even take in people and provide housing if you only plan on staying for like a week.

Do
-Talk to strangers. Get out into the culture as much as you can. There is a music thing/hangout deal going on every night of the week. If you can make one social friend, he will lead you to the others and you will really experience it as a whole.
-Go to the Range on Saturday night. Big music deal. easily the best way to meet people get over your fears.
-Get naked in the hot springs. Just do it, dont be that one and only guy in his underwear. Nothing weird is going to happen, just relax and have fun.

Don't
-Cross through peoples camps. Respect all boundaries, even if they are made of tires or stacked bottles. There are tweakers out there but they stay to themselves. If you walk over a well defined line of trash, dont be surprised if someone comes out to yell or question.
-Try not to look so rich or so touristy. Everybody is real nice and you wont really have a problem with thiefs or anything, but they tend to not be as personally welcoming if you roll up in like an audi.
-Dont camp right on top of another camp. There are plenty of spaces everywhere, and you are welcome to stay at any of them for as long as you want, but ask the people camping right next to you if its cool before you setup.

I am going to Philippines in March (about the 20th) and I live in Switzerland.
I am not very rich and need to save a bit. Nonetheless I will be going.
I really don't have experience with buying tickets, like the best routes and such.
I googled this and some things came up but perhaps there are some other tips /trv/ knows that can help?

Thanks and sorry if this is a very generic question. I've never been to this board before.

Skyscanner, Kayak and Momondo to find the cheapest fares, Fly4Free and Secretflying for the lowest prices possible. From Italy (wherever you live in Switzerland, is not too far from there) I've seen flights advertised for 320 euros return. Make sure to delete all your cookies before booking.

I ended up using ebookers and got a total price of CHF700 (including tax, booking insurance, etc) its ok I can deal with that amount. But that website secretflying was quite interesting. I will surely use it in the future. Thanks.

It's not just related to teaching ESL abroad. I'm talking about people who decide to give up a well-paid job to switch to a teaching career in general (including primary and secondary teachers teaching abroad and locally).
