Chilean here. going to texas for a month. Bastrop specifically. What to do with South American Budget.

>being this much of a nazi about cigarettes
I didn't know Texas was the Singapore of the Murricas
If you're caught smoking a cig without the stamp do you get caned too?
>>1065684
>Bastrop
Of all places, why Bastrop? My first job out of college was down there and I did not think it was a fun place. It's about 30 miles outside of Austin, which is very fun, but the road there is always extremely congested because of commuter traffic.
I seriously hope you have access to a car because there's no public transportation.
The one nice thing about the town was the state park, and that burned almost completely to the ground in 2011.
Time of year matters too. Are you going now, when it's winter? In a few months, when it's spring and pleasant? Or in summer when it's hot as balls?

>not knowing about interstate cigarette smuggling
Every state in the US taxes cigarettes at a different rate (places that produce them like North Carolina have ridiculously low prices, places like California attempt to snuff out smoking by making it too expensive). There's a lot of illegal money to be made in buying a shit-ton of cigarettes in one state and then going to a different state and reselling them for lower than what they cost there. Think of it as a slightly more elaborate take on the Seinfeld episode about Michigan recycling deposits.
That said, there's practically no enforcement of it unless cops are looking for a reason to be an asshole. The only reason that sign is there is because it's on the New Mexico border, and Texas doesn't want the poverty leaking in.

NY is pretty active about catching cigarette smugglers from Virginia.

From the list I've been to Mexico City, Vinales, Brno, East Bay and Southern Gulf Islands.
This year I will likely go to: Toronto, Grand Rapids, Todos Santos, Providence, St Louis, and maybe Beaufort as I plan on being in Savannah.
I don't know if this is the right place to ask, but I'm going to ask anyways. I'm hopefully moving to the UK in about half a year from now, but I'm kind of lost in the process. How can I rent a flat from abroad without having job there? Or to reverse the situation, how can I get a job without a proper UK address to prove I can pay the monthly rent? Of course I do have savings, but I can't pay 6 months' rent in advance just to gain the landlord's trust. I'd be grateful for any kind of advice.
are you dumb bro?
just use temporary accommodation (find a room on gumtree or whatever) when you arrive and find something more permanent when you are in the country
it's a 'hopefully' a year and a half away that is autistic levels of planning
>>1067125
You misread my post, I said half a year away, that's actually not a crazy lot of time.
Also, why is it easier to rent a room than a flat? Isn't it the same thing when you're moving there unemployed?
>>1067131
wow i did misread it
also renting a room is easier because its less formal, often for a non-fixed amount of time etc
try airbnb or gumtree
but this is assuming you are moving to a city
Will moving to a "happier" country actually make you feel happier?
I don't know how reliable those lists are, but happiness is contagious. Avoid countries and cities where people don't smile back and looking happy makes people wonder what drugs you're on. It's depressing.
First you have to identify the reason why you're unhappy. If you can't fix it at home and for some reason think you can do it abroad then moving might make you happier, otherwise I'd say it's about the same anywhere in the world.
No you'll feel even more miserable since everyone else around you is happy but you aren't
I'm going to be travelling to Norway and staying with older relatives for approximately a month. Most of them speak little to no English - some speak it well - and I don't speak a word of Norwegian.
Do the young people there speak good English?
How real is Janteloven?
How fucked am I?
Was there last week (Oslo, then Nordland area).
Everybody speaks english.
>>1066340
I've been to Moss with my gf previous holidays, literaly everyone speaks english
Most people here speak English good enough for basic conversation, Janteloven could complicate things for you. How fucked you are really comes down to the colour of your skin and where you're from.
It's weird and somehow retarded I know, but any specific advice for a native Mandarin who will be in Taiwan for like 10 to 15 days?
And it's a self-guided tour

Hey, i'm from belgium and have the opportunity to go study for half a year in pamplona, Spain, i wanna know how life is there... it seems like a very small city and i'm afraid i'll get bored.
Looking for an active nightlife and fun student community, anyone familiar with this city? thanks
Pamplona is more fun than Belgium, without a doubt
>>1065862
Not sure what your hobbies are, but it's a fairly small city.
Most people go clubbing during thursays, fridays and saturdays.
I used to live there, so ask about anything.
How about the average age? Are there a lot of students ? Hobbies are doing sports and hang out, nothing special really
Okay /trv/ anons, serious question here. How many countries have official immigration services that help you with all the immigration process, with websites where you can answer questionnaires to see if you're fit. So far, only Canada and Australia have this service. Trying to bounce ASAP, so if you can include links and information you'll have my eternal gratitude.
NZ also has something like this but the acceptance process is not as clear as the two you've mentioned. No point system and the decision is left to their discretion.

>Trying to bounce ASAP
lel did you rob a bank or something?
Checking it right now. Not as neat but worth a shot, ty anon.
I'm travelling with my parents to Gran Canaria soon to celebrate a birthday. I find the touristy stuff to be sad and boring and I tried to convince them of another location but oh well.
Tips on what to do on the island to get away from the worst tourist traps? I'm 22 y o old if that helps.
Also, are there any good restaurants that you know of?
>>1065517
As long as you stay out of playa del ingles and maspalomas it's actually pretty good.
Las Palmas is decent, the nature in the center of the island is gorgeous and the small towns also offer nice food.
Rent a car, drive around, go hiking or diving...
>>1065517
It's not really a place with individual incredible attractions. Stay away from the blatantly tourist stuff and have a good time. Just bring a book and some swimming trunks and enjoy yourself drinking, eating, relaxing, hiking, and shit on your parents dime. It might seem lame but its always nice to get away.
It's all relative and you should get in the right mindset. I know to an English person the canaries are kind of boring but to an American it'd be quite enticing.
Travel advice please!
Just arrived at Mendoza, Argentina. I have a flight leaving from Lima, Peru on Saturday the 16th at 11pm. Not sure how to divide time between Mendoza at Cusco (haven't booked flights yet to Cusco and to Lima).
With LAN Airlines, I'm getting good prices from Mendoza->Lima only on Saturday the 9th (leaving 2.5 days in Mendoza, 5.5 days in Cusco) and Wednesday the 13th (leaving 6.5 days in Mendoza, 1.5 days in Cusco). I also checked flights leaving from Santiago too.
Any ideas? I'm interested in hiking, but also the culture that mendoza has (art, most of all), as well as the Incan history in Cusco. Not too interested in wine, though. Is Cusco trekking more interesting than Mendoza hiking (Parque Provincial Aconcagua)?
For posterity: made the choice to spend more time in Cusco.
te recomiendo muchos lugares para conocer en argentina. solo debes decirme tus gustos...

Anyone ever buy a bike in Japan? Or rent one? I want to get one and travel through about 8 towns/cities. I'd rather buy. Anyone know how to do this from the US?
Motorcycle? Bicycle? Which is it?
>>1066681
Rented one in Kyoto. Not as cheap as you'd think for Asia.
You will need a CC, Passport, International Permit.
What else do you want to know?
>>1066681
I believe buying requires residency for registration purposes, so not possible for a tourist except on a working holiday.
Look on goobike and webike for listings. And if those websites are too Japanese for you, don't bother at all.
Also note that traffic is slow here and expressways are expensive and a pain. Expect to to lose the better part of 20000 yen if you decide to go through Shikoku, for example.
So what exactly do the anons of /trv/ do as a job?
>How much do you make?
>Is it enough to pay for your travel expenses?
>How do you budget everything out?
>How often do you travel?
>>1066454
I'm from a household which earns six figures. Yes. Before travelling. Not that much these days.
>>1066454
I take home about 30k
I own a home, and I pay a little extra towards the mortgage (FUCK PAYING INTEREST)
I travel once a year, for about three weeks depending on my annual leave/money/destination

Yea, I thought that might be a problem, so I decided to do it after Christmas Break, I was only wondering if it has good buildings/touristing areas
