China generals devolve into arguments and repetition after the first 10 posts. I'm not going to waste my time asking questions there only to get one half-good response.

So anyway, I'm moving to Guangzhou soon and was wondering a few things.

What are some essential goods to bring along beforehand? I was told condoms, soap, deodorant, toothpaste, razors, underwear, and protein powder are key. And being a tall man, I also heard that clothes and shoes are important.

-Essential downloads/apps -- especially ones I won't be able to get while there? I have ZenMate Premium. Are there other VPNs I should consider getting?

-What're the women like there? I was told by girl friend over there that I'll clean up once I arrive. I have a pretty thick beard -- should I consider trimming/shaving it?

-Anything you can tell me about Guangzhou? I'll be living in ZhuJiang New Town.

Shoes and clothes on taobao, for this get a Chinese buddy and let him/her handle that and pay them what it costs and take them out for drinks some time or something.

WeChat is essential, some dictionary app you prefer, always useful,

VPN I used/use 红杏 or Red Apricot, for like 10 RMB and rarely had VPN problems, maybe once in the 6 months I was there, I was able to watch YouTube almost properly.

Girls differ, just like in your home country, the beard can make it more difficult to get a girl/girlfriend, but the beard is also a plus for attention, especially if you have a big one.

Guangzhou is the 'most dangerous', but just watch out like you normally would. Have only been in Guangzhou for a couple of days, it was alright. I know you can get all the special foods, even the illegal stuff there.

Just discover the place around your house/room yourself, compare prizes and food quality, just get a general feel of the China and you can get along easily. The locals will like you as long as you are friendly.

I befriended some locals in Beijing that owned a restaurant and the food was so good I went there three times and I said in my basic Chinese that the food was good, but it was our final day, we got some drinks on the house, together with what I suppose was the owner/boss.

Random question: I saw on youtube that the way to say left, as in left direction, is "zuo bian", but when I talked to Taiwanese people as well as some mainlanders on holiday they all pronounced it "zuo tran".

Any explanation for this? I also noticed other annoying little things like how a lot of people will say "san" for 山 instead of shan.
>>
>>1148092
Simple explaination: Dialects, just like any other country, but because China is quite vast and some places are very isolated it can differ from town to town.

Hey matey.

Bulgarian local here, I just came back from the Black Sea, Chernomorets specifically.

Anyway, season is coming to an end and it's a good thing you're gonna catch the last few days of very good weather.

Besides the usual sea shit like surfing, kites, banana rides, jet ski and shit, I'd recommend the aqua park

Firing range (a guy off'd himself there last year, I think it's working now though)
>http://condorbg.eu/cat.php?id=28&&parent_id=20

Some of the best night clubs closed the season on the 3rd this month, so I don't know much about the night life.

Visit Nessebar, historical town next to Sunny beach.

Britbong here, I hear both terrible and intertresting things about Sunny Beach.

I'm told drugs are readily available in the porn shops. It's full of drunk cunts. If you pass out or fuck yourself over there are numerous private medical firms that will sweep you of the street, when you are blind drunk and land you with a bill when you could have walked it off or taken care of it yourself. Huge bar crawls are a popular thing.

Any tips on how to earn cash while travelling?

If you want to visit france and earn money, pick grapes during the vintage season, which started a few weeks ago. I recommend you speaking good french and having the contact beforehand.

Sucking dick is a world wide earner. Robbing people can make cash to I suppose. But in reality it depends on, where you are going? Where have you come from? What time of year is it? What is your skill set? What is your previous experience?

you can use workaway. you dont actually get paid but you get room and board and a lot of the jobs are super easy, like 2-4 hrs a day. like i said you dont get money but its a good way to extend your travel

Anyone got experience with this? I'm very interested. Where can I start looking?

Not this thread again.

No, you cannot work on ships without proper documents. You can only be a passenger, and it normally costs more and less convenient than going by passenger ship.

So I'm going to visit Israel and the West Bank (specifically Jereusalem, Bethlehem, Ramallah and Hebron) next month and I'm a little worried.

Is it safe?
What should I wear? Incase religious people don't like tshirts or something.

This thread is not to discuss the politics of Israel/Palestine although I appreciate both sides have strong views.

What would you do, or where would you go if you were with me?

22 years old. Job only requires to work 4 months per year. Making $10k/month clear after taxes/expenses during that time. Have been traveling consistently since 18, so desire to settle down is slowly creeping up but I'm already lazy and bitter. I'm happy with where I am in my career and have given up on the idea of accomplishing more (aside from normal career progression which will set me at about $15k/month clear in about 10 years).

I just want to work my 4 months every year, and be retired in some place that's warm all year, cheap as fuck (support myself on $40k for the 8 months I'm off), lots of girls and things to do, and preferably a up and coming economy as I know I'll eventually get bored and want to invest or start a business.

If you can't find a good meal in Rome, there is something wrong with you. The city is full of decent places to eat, it is difficult to go wrong there.

If you want to spend a few bucks, see if Tullio's is still open, Used to be my favorite, some years back.

As for where else to go -- what interests you? I assume you can find the Colosseum and the Forum and stuff by yourself.
>>
Use tripadvisor to see restaurants in your area, read the reviews and try them.

Why did you choose to go to Rome? Didn't you plan at all for it? Isn't there any thing you heard about and wanted to see?
>>
>>1159971
This.

Rome is unfortunately one of those places you can get swindled by locals who take advantage of tourists.Be careful very close to major sights like Trevi fountain. Know that in Italy you may have more of a price to sit down vs bar service, as well as al fresco tables vs inside tables. Do not sit down anywhere if they hand you a menu with no printed prices. Simply get up and leave in disgust. They're intending to overcharge you. When I really don't know where to eat or what to do and I'm not on the internet at the moment, I'll ask a local in somewhere decent, like an upscale jewelry store, or a hotel concierge (and most major chain hotels have okay dining if not a touch on the pricier side). Ask people all the time for their favorites when the opportunity arises. Know all the gelato is good. Walk into groceries/delis and buy bread, charcuterie, wine, olives, fruit, cheeses, whatever snacks you might want, and enjoy the best of italy. A "Best" list would be by neighborhoods too.

Get onto TripAdvisor (or your guidebook) and do sights, and plot out a few walks that include food stops. That's how I travel. When you wing it, you look for lines out the door as a good sign it's somewhere special to eat.

Sup /trv/,

I've just signed up for WWOOF Japan. Never done this sort of thing before.

What should I do with contacting hosts? Should I just send a simple message like "Yoroshiku! I want to stay with you for x amount of time from this date, please see my profile and reply if you dig it", or should I go in to full details for each and every one? I made my profile pretty comprehensive.

Also, anyone done it before? I'm applying mainly in southern Japan since I don't like the thought of working outside in a region like Hokkaido during winter.

Pic related, I assume.

I've never WWOOFed in Japan, but I'm currently on a farm in England until December.

I basically just sent a few messages out in the area that I wanted to go and hoped that a farm would take me. It's smart to do it a month or two in advance as well, so hosts have time to plan your arrival and make space for you. You don't really need to be really flowery or comprehensive when you contact them- most hosts have been doing this for a while and know the game by now. It's not OKcupid, y'know?

Either way anon I hope you have a great time- I certainly feel like WWOOFing was one of the best things I could have ever done while traveling. You'll meet new people and do cool shit. If you have any other questions feel free to ask- though my experience might be a bit different from what you're getting into due to the vastly different cultures between England and Japan.
>>
>>1160399
Well, in the time since I put up this thread I've already set up an agreement with a host in Fukuoka. I'll be arriving on the 22nd of January. Already looking forward to the 30km night winter hike from the airport to their farm.

But holy shit, I need to show that I have 22.000DKK in clear funds (around $3400) before even applying for a working holiday visa. Time to pull extra shifts at work until my brain melts.
>>
>>1160412
No, what you do is you keep your mouth shut and go in on a tourist visa. You don't tell the border guards you're gonna be WWOOFing, you tell them you're visiting a friend or just traveling for a couple weeks and show them a fake itinerary, and then you go in and spend your tourist visa time there and leave. It's what most WWOOFers do because while it isn't technically illegal to WWOOF on a tourist visa, border guards have a hard time realizing you're not doing anything for monetary gain and turn you away anyways.

Unless you plan on spending like a year in Japan, and then holy shit man that'll be an experience. 3.5k aint hard to save up if you're persistent.

Im keeping it as vague as possible, but I found someone whos okay with a sexless marriage for convenience and Im wondering how common this really is?

Ive heard of foreign escorts and hostesses usually marrying men to work shady jobs that would otherwise be illegal for them to work but this is not the case at all here.

The country is Japan and Im seriously considering it. We are both 30 and I'm currently in Tokyo. Is it something to openly discuss with an immigration lawyer?

We would like it to work as a trade where my spouse also receives an American visa and benefits so its not just a one way street to stay in Japan.

>how common this really is?

Worldwide, fairly common I'd guess, but there's no way of telling the exact frequency.

>>Is it something to openly discuss with an immigration lawyer?

Absolutely not. Attorneys in the US and (presumably) Japan are bound by professional ethics -- if you tell them that you're going to commit a crime they have an obligation to report you.

>>We would like it to work as a trade

Honestly, anon, this is not such a good idea. Unless you're completely lazy, if you're already in Japan and can speak English it's quite easy to get a residential/employment visa without your planned "partner's" help. And unless your "partner" is registered as a head of household, you'll have to have her parents or other relatives sponsor (i.e., be responsible for) you -- do you really feel comfortable taking advantage of other people like that?

Bringing her into the US also has potential issues; if the marriage goes sour (and, really, why shouldn't it as it's fake anyway) she now has an additional jurisdiction to choose from when filing for divorce.

Lastly, this sort of thing is a crime in both countries and Immigration is on the look-out for it. I can't say what the penalties against your "partner" would be in Japan if she were caught; at a minimum she would be barred from entering the US for a considerable length of time. As for you, you'd likely be deported from Japan and might be subject to prosecution in the US if USINS decided to go after you.

Outside of movies, people who do this kind of thing usually do it for a good amount of money. Your doing it for no real personal gain is (sorry!) idiotic. Don't do it.
>>
>>1159726
Surprisingly, there is more to obtaining a visa than just marrying someone.

She will not receive a green card for marrying you unless you are lucky (and even then it will still take months, possibly years).

You will not receive residency for marrying her unless you are lucky (and even then it will still take months, possibly years).

What you saw on television was just television. Imagine the bureaucracy involved in becoming a resident of a foreign country. Just think about it, and realize this is a silly fantasy.
>>
>>1159805
>She will not receive a green card for marrying you
>You will not receive residency for marrying her

I'm sorry, but this is utter bullshit. Unless you're trolling you have no idea what you're talking about.

Foreign-born spouses of Japanese nationals typically receive on first application a 3-year residency permit, which can be extended. Foreign-born spouses of US nationals receive a green card (if planning to reside in the US).

Japanese Immigration is quite fast -- maybe a 1 month wait or less. I've heard US Immigration can take longer, perhaps up to 10 months. But in either case, the result is the same -- legal residency. Unless, of course, the marriage is found to be fraudulent, as in OP's case.

Hi, /trv/.

I’d like your take on how loose/tight one should travel.

American here, flying into Paris on September 18. From there, I’m going to Ghent, Belgium and perhaps, Luxembourg, before ending up in Amsterdam.

The only real planning I’ve done so far is buying a one-way ticket to Paris. Is it OK to wing where I end up staying and transportation from each country? I was thinking of taking the trains. Am I fucked? The reason I haven’t planned at all, is because I want to see how much I like it in each city/country before moving on. Do you need to book these far in advance? I’m generally pretty flexible.

Would I be OK landing in Paris (with a place to stay) and planning from there?

What would /trv/ do?

From my experience trains in mainland Europe are pretty cheap, at least compared with the ridiculous prices here in the UK.

Also you can take the Megabus from Paris to Gent, which only costs a few euros (megabus.com), so there's no need to be worried, really
>>
>>1159674
mid-september is fine to wing it. The kiddos are back in their schools. I generally book my first couple nights of hotel so I can crash upon arrival somewhere with a swimming pool or spa and decent mattress for the jetlag/achy back that a transatlantic plane gives me. (Book on icelandair on the way back and dip in the blue lagoon next time).

My general winging rules are thus: fridays/saturdays require booking ahead or you can end up with no room at the inn. The larger the town, or more touristic the scenery, the more nightlife and the more the no vacancy issue rises on weekends. I like to book trains ahead, as well as a class upgrade, so I get a reserved seat and feel more comfortable about my bags among the better class of passengers. Don't be broke. Have a lot of backup budget to allow for an oopsie in the budget, whether a more expensive night or meal, or some kind of extra transportation that you simply can not get down in price, lol. Have a good amount of offline reading material tucked into your phone or tablet, like actual travel guides,so you can do the logistics around some of your choices of things to see at random moments without wifi.
>>
>>1159674
>one-way ticket

If you don't have a EU passport that will present problems. They might not even let you board the plane.

Hey guys! I've got a favor to ask, I'm trying to get into a university in Austria, but I'm trying to find out if Austria would allow me a grant.

Problem is, my German is still not at the level I am required, and I must communicate with an Austrian government body, so I was wondering if any of you guys would have the heart to translate a less-than-half-page long paragraph of text from English to German? I would really appreciate it, I have about a week left to find this out, otherwise I might not even be able to go to Austria!

Hey /trv/, i have a challenge for you.
i want to travel around the world in a total of 10 days (of time at my starting point) visiting Each Continent not including Polar caps at least once.
My starting point is Brisbane Airport Australia.
and i must end the trip in Brisbane.
How would i do this? Where would i fly?
How much will everything cost?
How much should i pack, and what?
If places require a visa, where do i get them?

You'd see nothing but airports, get no sleep and spend a fuckload of money, but if that sounds like fun to you, go right ahead. Not sure you'll impress many people though

I've been toying with this idea for a while too, though I would probably go for a year or two, dunno about a decade.
I've heard it's a rite of passage for most young men in Thailand to live monastically for a certain period of time before going off into their lives (disclaimer: this could be total bullshit). I imagine most of them would be OK with accepting a foreigner if they were serious.
