I'm considering exploring the Agreste region of Brazil (purple area 3 in image).

How safe do you think it would be to travel around northeast Brazil away from the coast. I am brown so I figure if I dress like the locals I could pass as one, although my accent would be a dead giveaway.

If I laid low and minded my own business do you think I would have any trouble? Any recommendations or travel stories in northeastern Brazil?

Dont.

Have you been to Bahia, my friend? With a country like Brazil, I think you might want to do your exploring piecemeal, especially with regard to the Northeast.
>>

Why would you do that?

How many of you have seen the show departures? It's was only broadcast in Canada, but is now on Netflix. I really recommend it, one of the better travel shows I have seen.

Most people on here know about Departures. It's a good show.

Another interesting travel show based from Canada is Waterfront Cities of the World. If you haven't seen it yet I highly recommend at least watching an episode on cities you're going to in the near future.

>one of the better travel shows I have seen.

By FAR the best ive seen.

Almost all travel shows are prestaged and heavily edited, they also tend to get access and special treatment in many of the places they visit, which is something normal tourists dont get. Departures is pretty raw, like its a TV show but its a more accurate description of travel than most.

I also like a bunch of other travel shows too, long way around is one of the best but its too short, Vice also has a bunch of good travel documentaries.

While I somewhat agree with this, you must know that they have a whole team of people behind them who did some research and pre-planning. It's not as staged as other shows but they certainly don't just randomly stumble upon some of those situations. Like that Russia episode where they drive tanks, that's quite expensive if you want to actually do that as a tourist in Russia.

Actually the Russia episode was one my least liked because I felt they were quite ignorant about the situation in Russia.

What do you think about japan

You should go there now, they have sights way better than olympics. Also during the olympics shit will be even more crowded and ruin everything else.
>>

Easy to steal from stores, and easy to fuck girls because japanese men have small penises. Other than that, it looks like nothing has been developed or built since the mid 1980s, it smells like shit, and only the loser Westerners who are failures in their own country move there, not realizing they'll be just as big failures in japan. Oh, and you guys got what you deserved with the tsunami, that's what you get for making child rape comics and the Nanking massacre. You deserve more Atom bombs, Hiroshima was not enough.

As a young guy with not that much experience but a lot of time to plan ... Is it suicide? I was thinking Morocco to Lagos, don't have to go right along the coast but something like that. Transportation? thoughts?

Thanks in advance

If I did this I'd cut through southern Mali, which is safe enough, then down into Ghana, Would save a lot of hassle and tropical illness.
I'd hitchhike and use public transport in equal measure -- public transport there can be so bad hitchhiking can often get you there faster.
Have you seen the ongoing motorbike thread?

And yeah idk bout hitchhiking? cutting through southern mali would be good. Should I worry much about tropical disease as you said? I'll definitely get some vaccinations before going.

Hey all! Headed to Peru soon, and looking for any advice in any city...hostels, places to eat, sights to see, etc.

I'm thinking:

-Lima
-Arequipa
-Iquitos, gotta see the Amazon
-Cuzco
-Huacachina

So, who's been there? Tell me the best and worst you saw!

It was my favorite south american country but I went with a Peruvian
I found out Peruvians don't really eat guinea pig and find the idea pretty gross, it's something the mountain people eat and now simmering they sell to tourists as a gimmick
Food was so good I came back fat as fuck tbqh

Amerifag here

I'm planning to visit either Russia (the european part) or Eastern Europe (Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary) this summer, provided nothing gets in the way. Firstly, which should I go for? I have a slightly greater interest in Russia (and I have been studying the language), but I have heard that the other three are likely safer. I'll be going alone unless I can find someone to come with me.

Secondly, which places in either country/ies should I go to, and which should I avoid? Concerning Russia, I've had some tell me that I have to see Moscow and Saint Petersburg, while others say I should stick to smaller cities (like Rostov or Voronezh IIRC). I don't know much about the other countries other than that Budapest and Prague are apparently pretty.

This is my first trip overseas for the purpose of tourism/vacationing. The only other time i've left the country is to visit family in Australia, and my parents were always handling those trips.

Quite literally any information that I can get on this subject will be very helpful. I am going to do personal research too, but I don't quite know where to look.

First answer me this.. why the fuck would you want to go to those countries?????

Europa is filled with amazing countries filled to the brink with historic structures, safe environment, great nightlife, amazing foods and more.. And you pick shithole countries like Russia, Poland and Hungary?!? i mean??... WHY?
>>
>>1153542
>Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary

For all intents and purposes, that's Central Europe.

>This is my first trip overseas for the purpose of tourism/vacationing. The only other time i've left the country is to visit family in Australia, and my parents were always handling those trips.

Go to Eastern/Central Europe. More developed, everything is easier and safer

Then if you liked it, Russia will be interesting. Its also a hassle to get into Russia because of invitations and visas and shit.

I think the skyline of Chicago is extremely overrated, but a local told me the boat tours is the best way to do it. I think the elevated L train is the most amazing way to see the city in half an hour.
>>
>>1153317
the cta is easily the best way to see the city
I would stay away from the the parts of the red, orange, and green lines that are on the the south side. its also probably a bad idea to ride a train that isnt the brown line at night

I'm going to be driving 70 West from Washington, D.C. for 4-5 days with no particular destination.

Any good locations I should visit while I'm driving? Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kansas, Missouri, Colorado.

Thinking I'll probably turn it back around in Denver, depending on what's going on back home.

St. Louis. Would be a good place to stop.
Check out soulard, Lafayette square, central west end,Benton park, tower grove neighborhoods.
The grove and Cherokee street r some up and coming districts.
Forest park is cool and has a lot of free museums and zoo.
The city museum is an awesome place. Only one hostel in stl that's the huck fin hostel in soulard.
If interested in any additional specifics let me know.

Columbia is half way to kc and is a college town.
Kc boulevard brewery is cool.
Lawrance Kansas is a cool town to stop at as well on the way.

Going to Iran for the first time next week. Gonna fly to Teheran an be for several weeks in the country. I speak a few words Farsi and know basic stuff/culture/history, but haven't much planned anything travel-wise yet. Any suggestions or stories?

Thanks!

I recommend Qom, Esfahan, Shiraz (don't miss Shah Cheragh and Naqsh-e-Rustam) and Yazd (don't miss all the Zoroastrian attractions).

More or less this. Make your way to the south and fly back to Teheran, although I've heard the beaches and/or towns in the north must be nice too.
Don't miss Persepolis when in Shiraz.
>>
Kisch and Qom (to see the worlds collide), Yazd for dat cultural gains and last but not least I suggest going with the train to the caspian sea.

Hey guys, first time /trv/ler, I'm planning on traveling to Bali for a little more than a week for business but I have a few days for pleasure. Have any of you been there? This is my first time abroad in Asia. Are there any must-go places to see or things to do? I'd love to hear some stories about travels or vacations to Indonesia too!

south kuta is awful. avoid it.

ubud is great, one of the most unique places in the world. it's been ruined by fat white women who do yoga as a pretense to lose weight and look spiritual. literally flled with obese menopausal women hiring brown male prostitutes. what a shithole.

beautiful architechture though.

avoid spirits. some of them are literally poison and will kill you. not send you to the hospital. kill you. like, 100%.

if you have a "few" days, you might also consider going to the gili islands, which is a sort of isolated backpacking retreat. if you have a few more than that, you can hike a volcano in lombok. if you have a few more than that you can hire sailboats to take you to komodo island.

indonesia is pretty cool. bali used to be the coolest part. but then eat. pray. love came out.
