Greetings /tg/!

Recently I started paying attention to this board after reading a great deal of awesome stories.
Wanting to also play tabletop games I gathered quite a large amount of pdf. files but I can't figure out which is a good game to pop my /tg/ cherry.

All I ask of you is a recommendation for any tg related game so I can finally get into this.

How complicated is summoning a Chaos demon?
13 posts and 6 images submitted.

>>43911412
As complicated as saying Beetlejuice three times.
>>
>>43911696
What? Beetlejuice? That's a dumb idea. Why would saying Beetlejuice summon a demon. What, is Beetlejuice the name of some poor sod of a demon?

...what? What's the look for?
>>
>>43911412
Oh, it's simple, if you know how.
Just tear a hole between the immaterium and the materium, and wait for enough energies to spill through to manifest into a daemon.
Bobs your uncle, you've got a violent set of emotions embodied in psuedomatter attempting to rip out your entrails.

Wait, you wanted to survive it? Oh, well... that's harder.

Because everyone thinks they're as cool as Larloch.

And nobody smacks down Larloch. At best they survive Larloch.
>>

>Everyone knows evil is wrong anyway.

Its cause you're playing DnD where evil is objectively measured because it's the counter balance to the good half of the universe.

In other words. They do it because someone has do.

Alternatively, because your GM is a hack.
>>
>>43911190
Lets see... I assume you're talking about a typical card-carrying, "I did it because I'm evil, lulz." kind of evil, as opposed to the "Misguided idealist" evil?

Well, couple of reasons;
- Narcisssism. Someone with narcissstic personality disorder literally thinks the world revolves around them and that everyone else needs to bow to their whims. Easy to see how an evil asshole could spring from this.

-Psychopathy. A pathological lack of empathy, deep emotion and impulse control. They'll kill someone to get their watch, get bored of said watch and then move on to the next little "victory", since they never get any true satisfaction. Often have no appreciation of morals.

-Schizophrenia. Their world view is warped. Like, seriously warped. They may think they're a god, that they're fighting off an invisible conspiracy or that they're somehow entitled to their actions. Delusion is a powerful thing.

-Sadistic Hedonism. Okay, hednoism is not an inherently wrong moral philosophy. But this guy takes it waaaaay too far. He enjoys the sufferign of others to such an extend he either thinks his pleasure over-rides their moral qualms, or jsut stopped caring a few years back.

I'll try to think of more, but the simple answer is that some people are juat really, really fucked up.

I'll start, this happened to me today

>be me, lazy college kid who plays /tg/ and vidya and lurks on 4chan
>be eating lunch when some guy I kind of know waves me over to eat with him and his friend
>"sure, why not?" go to chill with them
>friend is in all black and a black tophat, should have taken the hint there
>we chat for a bit about our Thanksgivings and vidya, things are going fine
>Hat Guy (will abbreviate to HG) suddenly brings up a pic he'd been looking for on his phone the whole time and says "this is the faceclaim for that character I was telling you about BTW" and shows it to the other guy, it's some redhead Generic McWaifubait swordswoman
>HG notices that I checked the pic too and decides to describe his current campaign, both of them are giggling like schoolgirls
>he says it's a text only online DnD 5e campaign set in his DM's borderline Darksouls meets AoT fanfiction setting where everything is shit and hopeless and monsters are stupidly powerful rapid regen/nearly immortal undead while humans sit inside a big wall generally crying and feeling bad for themselves
>Says this all like it is a good thing
>important note, claimed it was a "low magic" setting, said that his DM's definition of "low magic" basically amounted to "an artificer at max level on a nat 20 roll to make a magic item *might* be able to make a +1 sword"
>again, said this like a good thing.
>anyway, first story about the campaign was about his DM yelling at him for not actually naming his character, who he gave a literal 16 page backstory to that all amounted to "she was a slave and stripper for a long fucking time and just stopped being a slave 26 minutes before the campaign started"
>tells me he is triple classing into artificer, rogue, and bard. in the low magic setting.
>justifies it with "i want to play something really weak, to fit my backstory!"
>literally brags about his character being useless to the party

To be continued in a bit

part 2

>says that his character is some homebrewed hideous monster race, when I asked how she was a stripper if she looked like that he answered with "she casts disguise self constantly"
>in the low magic setting
>finally gets to how the campaign started
>26 minutes after she stopped being a slave, Speshul Sno'flake McWaifubait goes and makes a huge heroic speech about how humanity should unite and not lose hope and chastises everyone for being generic personality-less grimdark depressed bastards
>a trait which the guy OOC said he saw as a "great addition to the setting".
>nobody joins of course, except the other two party members who are both prettyboys who immediately both fall in love with her
>which the guy greatly brags about
>basically decide to try completely changing the subject, this autism is too bad even for me
>decide to instead discuss funny expy characters, like the traditional Micheal Jackson bard/necromancer or an all-cleric party that's the Ghostbusters
>eventually get onto the subject of a Tyler Durden fighter, he adamantly claims it would have to be lawful evil.
>I get that there are plenty of flaws with the alignment system, but that shit's too far, I ask how he can see a character whose primary goal literally is "cause anarchy and chaos" as "lawful".
>He brings up on his phone a massive pre-written essay about his views on "lawful evil", which basically boil down to "all lawful evil characters ever are truly righteous but misunderstood antiheroes who are the real heroes of every setting" and goes on to say how "he identifies himself as lawful evil"
>the autism is beginning to induce a minor aneurysm at this point

next post will be last
>>
>>43910753
part 3

>try to point out that alignments are subjective and their exact definitions change depending on your DM or setting, he basically says that any setting that doesn't use his ideas is fundamentally flawed
>he also claims that there is no such thing as evil characters and no such thing as people who think they aren't totally justified and righteous
>basically thinks every single person on earth and in all fictional settings view themselves as morally perfect and good individuals, and only other people can disagree with your actions
>goes on to explain how he views "evil" in the alignment system as meaning "follows their own code of ethics and individuality" and "good" as "follows what the majority agrees with", instead of that being the "law/chaos" distinction

/tg/, why do people like this exist?
>>

The chances of their ever being a high budget war hammer 40k film are very slim. The chances of it being good are even smaller. Even it's always enjoyable to see a film that comes close, even if it's just in how it looks.

Jupiter ascending was a awful film with a shit plot. But the House of Abrasax are basically a rogue trader dynasty, they even have the crazy architecture and ships covered in statues.

So what films do you think capture that '40k-ness' anons?

pic related, he might not have been the most effective rogue trader, but he did have killer style.

As long as they don't do anything shadier than that and take care of proper hygiene in their facility, I see nothing wrong with this. Good for the vampires for figuring out how function in the normal, law-abiding society.

Hello, /tg/. I'm putting together a campaign for my first time DMing, and I have an idea for a boss fight that I wanted to bounce off some more seasoned DnD players before I put it in.
(DnD 5e)
The fight is against an Adult Red Dragon, using mainly the standard rules in the Monster Manual. However, the fight takes place in a metal refinery, and My idea what that the dragon would scoop up some of the molten metal in its mouth, and drop it onto the players. Players would make a dex save to move out of the way, and those who fail the dex save take 1d10 fire damage. After the metal is dropped, it pools in a 5x5 square on the battle grid. Any player standing in it during their turn takes an additional 1d4 fire damage, and the pool cools after three turns.

Thoughts?

Sounds neat, but the damage seems low if they're fighting an adult red dragon.
>>
>>43909425
Interesting. How much damage would you reccomend? I was concerned about making the dragon too overpowered.
>>
>>43909414
add a dex penalty to the molten metal.

Is there a cyberpunk fantasy game out there that doesn't have the ridiculous bookkeeping and character mastery of Shadowrun? There's 0 chance I'll be able to keep some of my current players interested in SR because of these factors, so I'm looking for an alternative.

Most of the answers you get won't be satisfying. I would recommend Savage Worlds with a combo of fantasy and scifi splatbooks combined however fits best for your group.

GURPS

Nah just kidding I love GURPS but it probably rivals Shadowrun in terms of bookkeeping

I second Savage Worlds and just combine stuff from the fantasy and scifi books. Savage worlds is really rules-lite.
