“Um, Akikazu, I think that’s enough. He’s awake now.”

“Who’s awake?” You gasp out.

“You are!” Akikazu snarls.

“To elaborate, Takashi-kun, you stopped in the middle of the road and fell into a trance.” Celeste explains. “You were stuck like that for fifteen minutes. We were getting kinda worried. So we tried to snap you out of it.”

You groan and stretch your arms. For some reason, your body feels unnaturally stiff. Then you notice it. “Why is there dirt down my back?”

“That was me.” Akikazu replies, without an ounce of apology. You glare at him. “Don’t give me that look! You were the one who went AWOL on us. Aren’t you supposed to be our leader?”

“Leader, huh…”

“So, what were you daydreaming about?” Celeste asks.

“I was…” There are images clouding around the insides the brain and they disappearing, fast. You try to grab hold on one of them. You fail. It’s like trying to spot a particular oxygen atom in the vast sky. “I don’t know…”

You do know this. Whatever those dreams were about, they weren’t anything good.

“Where are we going next?” Akikazu asks.

“The r—no, middle path.” You mutter. “Yeah, that sounds good.”

“Are you sure you’re feeling alright?” Celeste asks. “It’s not too late to turn back. There’s still eight more days on the clock.”

"It's pointless to go on if he's sick or whatever." Akikazu grumbles.

“No, I’m fine.” You give Celeste a reassuring smile. Even though she’s been by your side this entire trip, you seem particularly glad to hear her voice again. Same with Akikazu. “Let’s go.”

As usual, Shadows impede your progress. The team deals with them. How does it go?

"But why GURPS?"

1) The splatbooks/worldbooks are universally written by people who know what they're talking about. The Fantasy book is written by archaeologists and historians, the Space book is written by astrophysicists, the Guns book is written by gun experts, etc. The factual mistakes are few and far between, and almost always acknowledged later. They give great advice on how to make believable worlds, how FTL affects society, how magic changes warfare, how real supernatural elements change secret societies... or how to ignore all realism and make whatever setting you want in a way that players can't take advantage of. They're great reads, even if you don't use the system.

2) GURPS has rules to handle anything. You don't need to use them all (why bother with rules for asphyxiating in a vacuum in a game about biker gangs?) but they're there. So if a game doesn't go where you expect, and your party of adventurers buy a wagon and start managing a merchant caravan company, there are books to support that style of play in a systemic way, integrated with the core rules in a way that makes sense. This also makes it great for crazy blends of game. Dungeonpunk with automatic firearms? Yes.

3) GURPS by default uses "heroic realism". This is when the odds on the heroes' sides but reality doesn't bend for them. Two bullets will knock a human unconscious (but not immediately kill him - this is fairly realistic) but hitting a moving target more than 100m away in a firefight is hard as hell. It suits games that go for a realistic or gritty feel and gives a break from the slightly cartoony damage sponges in games like D&D but can be customised with optional rules to change the feel from "Fuck You, There Are No Heroes and the World is Shit" right up to "The Heroes are Good and Always Triumph Over Evil". Incidentally, what makes it heroic realism also makes it the best game on the market to play a game about Operators Operating Operationally.

Suppose I take DF templates and cut some attributes, like it was done in the 'DF on the Cheap, down to 100 points total. Assuming players won't necessarily raise the attributes back to their 250p counterpart (when they get enough points), will there be any issues (balance-wise or similar)? So there will be a 250p barbarian, but instead of 17ST he will have 15ST+some advantages/perks/higher skills.

I just want a dungeon crawl lower in points, and I don't want to use Henchmen. And I will be using community Bestiary, not DF Monsters.

I don't think that's the best route, at least not universally. While high attributes and the universal competency they produce are certainly a target for reduction, don't ignore stupidly high skill levels and expensive advantages.

Maybe use the multi classing lens with a base template? ST and IQ 10, DX and HT 11, the 25-point lens, then 20 more points designated for attributes of the player's choosing and the remaining 25 points towards whatever they feel their PC still needs.

I wanted to make a custom Skaven codex for my GF to use to play 40k with me. We both currently play Warhammer fantasy, and I play 40k which I would like to get her into but she really lacks the funds to properly collect a second army so I was wondering if anyone on here has any experiences with making custom rules could give me any pointers.

Okay, so say the emperor for some reason known only to himself and his glorious mane of hair, decided to make a 21st primarch in secret for some mysterious reason, maybe he just liked the number or something.

Now say that this one was flung so far from terra he just gave the poor bastard up for dead, or just never got around to finding him.

Now say the inquisition or ministorum found Big E's private diary, and were shocked to discover there was another, hopefully untouched, uncorrupted and unmolested primarch out there somewhere in the stars.

And so they launch a most holy search for the lost son of the emperor.

And then we cut to whatever your most recent character was, doing what they do as the sky is filled with an imperial fleet as they're suddenly surrounded and worshiped by various strange people in odd garb, who tell them they're a son or daughter of the god emperor.

How would they react to this and what would they do?

So, I was searching in my basement and I found the old AD&D Spelljammer Box set.

I've spent the the last hour or so unboxing it and just admiring all of the sweet 1989 beauty of it all. I'd love to run a game of this...

Meh. Fantasy is heroic, horror is not. You can have horror flavored fantasy, although Victorian steampunk appears more popular atm. But fantasy flavored horror? Scifi flavored horror is a more natural fit.

I know Ravenloft, I wouldn't call it good. Played it to death when that Photoshop Dracula came out.

There's Invictus, but beyond the Mythos stuff it really tries to portray Roman times historically accurate - not really fantasy.

What are you guys thinking or speculating?

Do you think the Colorless required Eldrazi will be enough to be played in Modern over the slightly more easily cast ones? Considering it's mainly Urzatron running them, I don't think it would be an issue. If they're strictly better than the entirely generic mana cost Eldrazi, they'll be run, and if not, they won't be. If they are, maybe painlands will spike in price?

Also, something I've been considering is if pucatrade could affect MtGO pricing. They're about to roll out real world to online trading - obviously right now pretty much everything online is worthless with the horrible new redemption system. However if pucatrade was a valid way of cashing out of one format into the other, I could see MtGO prices possibly slowly rise? Probably not for chaff commons the bots have millions of, but of playable rares. I don't think the platform is big enough to put a chip into the pricing, but idk.

Also, why are the majority of people on pucatrade man children? The platform is great but half of the users are all caps, very aggressive I know MtG is for manchildren but c'mon.

Once had a player who was VERY into the setting, asking questions about how societies and religions worked, about how things tangentially related to the plot worked, because he wanted his character to act as if he had grown up in the world. He helped me drag the other players from playing nothing but PF and D&D into playing other games like DH and stuff.

He also brought food & drinks all the time.

A GM of mine had a 3.5 houserule that there was a limit on the number and total power of enchantments you could heap onto one unit at once. As you approached that limit, the likelihood of unforseen side effects increased. It really did a lot to help balance things out.

I would make it to where regular undead are destroyed. Intelligent undead would act as if they were turned by the caster. Liches are made of special dm magic so are unaffected.

Let's talk about alignment, specifically the 3x3 alignment system used by DnD and many other popular systems.

Being a human person, I know a lot of other human persons. I like playing a little game with myself and my TTRPG savvy friends in which we assign the most fitting alignment to people we know. Most of them are Good. Some are Neutral. Only a very few (whom I actively avoid) are Evil. I've also found that people tend to lean towards the Lawful end of the Lawful-Neutral-Chaotic axis. And I don't think I've ever met anyone who was Chaotic Good, though I'm sure they exist.

I've come the the conclusion that being "evil" is a matter of having an aberrant psychological disposition.

Psychopaths are Lawful Evil.
Sociopaths are Chaotic Evil.

I was wondering if anyone knows if there's a psychological condition that could be used to describe someone who is Neutral Evil.

Of course, this is also a general alignment discussion thread. Let the shitposting commence!

Good and evil are the ends, law and chaos are the means by which you achieve those ends.

Personally, I'd start with a base concept; you CAN frame it from a contemporary religious perspective, but most people, in today's world, would sniff out the religion in question pretty quick and then you're drowning in either Religion-fags or Atheist-fags.

But that's besides the point. Start from a point of philosophical interest: did the GOD create the world, or did the WORLD (in a manner of speaking) create the god? The former is useful for omnipotent gods, the latter, for limited ones.
