Somewhere in the future, I want to run a solo campaign about Byzantine/Romanelvesas a sort of "prequel" to a campaign I'm running right now. This game would also include a few battles with the PC acting as some sort of centurion, commanding a small group of men as we zoom in on a small portion of the battle field.
The system that will be used for most of the game is D&D 5e. Is there a way to do the above with it? If not, what system could be used exclusively for these battles in some two-system hybrid monstrosity game?

I'm running a game with byzantine elves present.
They never shut the fuck up about being superior to everyone, how ossum their empire was ruling the known world and how their capital is the city of the worlds desire. They also betrayed and killed their best general who came THIS close to restoring their old glory because they are a bunch reactionary, backstabbing fucks who splintered into themas. All vying to be Empress, completely oblivious how their even their rump empire is crashing and burning around them, getting invaded by humans ostensibly en route to fight the orcs.

Anyone know how Knights Errant will work? I mean, aren't they too few in number during the Heresy to be able to field any significant force of them and still remain true to lore. From what I can recall, there were around 10-15 total mentioned in Vengeful Spirit. Who would their commanders be(besides Garro)? Saul Tarvitz? Loken? Malcador himself? Would they rely on auxiliary forces to boost their numbers?

I wouldn't know, I've never played with gross neckbeards. Contrary to popular opinion, alot of people who are intonon-warhammer 40kRPG games aren't actually basement dwelling grognards. I happen to play mostly with a college gaming group, and they're pretty chill.

What if the Emperor is, in fact, a perpetual? What if he communicated to the Imperium that he wanted to be cut off from the Golden Throne so that he could die and properly reanimate?
In the few minutes that he needs, if the Imperium brought the GREATEST of their warriors to defend the warp rift against incoming demons, took all of their ships out of warp storms, could they hold the line until he resurrected?

Not all elves are old or trained in fighting. For example, a younger non combatant elf vs a older human soldier.
Humans live shorter, travel further and are more adaptable. While elves might train for longer, their ways are slower to change from traditional styles they believe is best. Humans could mesh different styles from their travels that surprise an elf.
