Why are the AoS pricing conventions so much higher than everything else?

Are GW deliberately trying to make it fail? 100 dollars for 10 slayers is ridiculous.

It gets even worse when you compare the Starter Kits. Compare 21 dwarfs with a pair of Nurgle/Khorne starter sets.

Or even worse with 40k, where 2 Necron, or 2 Skitarii sets are both cheaper, and a full army.

First off, I hope you know you are showing the australian prices. Those are expensive, period.

Second off, the Start Collecting box sets are the exception to GW pricing, not the rule.

Third off, do we really need another GW price thread? Hasn't this been discussed to death? Yes, GW is overpriced. Play something else.
>>
Not saying it isn't overpriced (it sure is lol), but to be fair AoS is built around needing less models.

Thanks, but I'd rather not have a bunch of racists tell me how Hitler was a hero parrot around the "WE WUZ KINGZ" meme.

Question:

How to you handle your players all making rolls on the same thing?

Like, let's say your players are looking for a hidden diary that they are pretty sure is in the room. One player rolls a search while the other players are somewhere else, gets a low number, and is told they look all over but don't find anything. Then another player goes "Well, I look too when I'm done." then they make a roll. Continue until the diary is found or all players roll. Or, let's say they are being snunk up on by a bandit. You tell them to roll a listen, and out of five players, one of them probably succeeds and alerts the others, every time any sort of spot or listen check is made. One more: The players are trying to get information from someone and fail their roll. So, then the next player decides to make a roll to get the information as well. Continue until someone succeeds.

Basically, how do you put challenges for the players that they can fail, if all of them are just going to roll, making the chances that everyone will fail almost zero?

World of Darkness suffers from this a lot. Even if each player only rolls one die, then if there are more than three players they will probably succeed. (33% chance for any one die in nWoD)

I understand making consequences for failure, like the rope breaks when they try and fail to swing across or whatever, but that doesn't work for all situations.

For something with say 5 people searching for the dairy, could you have them decide as a.group ahead of time how many people are going to help search, and then take the average of the 5 rolls. You could even make some charts ahead of time with nber of people and degrees of success. So like if all 5 people play they need an average of 65, but if it is only 4 the. They need a 60.

Have you tried talking to your players about this?
>>
>>44678085
Yes, they think it's perfectly fair.

Or I should say, they think it's very unfair when I try to limit them. "So what if the strongest character wasn't able to pull the rusted lever. I want to try to pull it, I might get lucky!" Queue some sort of discussion about being able to open a jar after someone else tries.

I mean, it's good they get to advance, but in some cases it makes it impossible to create real obstacles or tension since they seem to succeed at everything eventually.

Evening gents.

I'm trying to remember a creature from D&D. I can't remember what edition it's from, but I remember the picture from the book. It's like this big, moon sized creature. with a huge maw of teeth.

Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Image is similar, but not related to D&D and not what I'm looking for.

Yo teegee, what do you guys think of Infernum?

Core rulebook's a freebie on RPGNow and DriveThruRPG (Book of the Damned), and it's a criminally underplayed and discussed game with goddamn fantastic art, design, writing, and core concept. It even has Doomguy.

Seems to me the crux of the issues with it came from the system used, and the way they modeled a couple of the game mechanics, like Illiaster (a FUCKING AMAZING CONCEPT), Sorcery, and the fact that Demon, Angel, and Mortal are all character classes instead of races.

The setting is so goddamn fantastic it's ironically and unironically a sin that it hasn't been recast in a more competent system, or at least tried out by more folks.

I Dm'd my first game recently and the teams cleric (Who followed a good god) ended up swearing allegiance to a vampire mistress for free enchanted gear, she now uses his head as a way to travel around throughout the day, while he still follows his original god. Needless to say the entire party was wondering what the hell he was thinking. We ended up having to drop him down two alignments in the course of like 3 in game hours.

maybe the player and the cleric viewed a vampire mistress as not that bad in comparison to the stuff gained from swearing allegiance to her?

Honestly depends how he roleplayed that shit, probably wouldn't have been on at my table, the vengeance pally and the other cleric would have murdered him and his mistress

No his character knew it was against his religion (The religion he follows is completely against any form of undead, and the only reason he didn't fully attack on sight is because he still isnt fully trained.) but thought eh whatever gloves of +2 strength are worth it. He then praised himself (in character) for not being a paladin so he didnt lose any abilities.

Playing at high levels is bad practice.

Most people don't really seem to appreciate that every time you play, you're putting in a bit of practice. Reinforcing the habits you have, good or bad, and deepening the rut in the road that your wagon travels in.

When you're trying to create a cool character, it's only too easy to fall into the trap of thinking that the stronger the character is, the cooler they are. At some point, you might end up playing a world-shattering demigod, reveling in just how much fictional power your character has, while asking for the rest of the group to be shocked and amazed by how cool your character is.

The sad part is, that's actually the easiest way to make a character no one likes. A strong character that lacks a personality beyond "I'm strong" and who has obtained their power solely because the narrative demanded it is the recipe for a forgettable midboss, placed into the position of one of the main characters only because you happen to play him.

Playing at high levels is a bad idea, but not for any of the reasons you say. You're wrong about pretty much everything. The idea that you need to be high-level to revel in PC power or that players are going to start doing that when they level up is utterly terrible.

Playing at high levels is a bad idea because designers don't test high-level stuff. The game breaks down really fast. As an example that I'm sure everyone remembers, D&D 3rd edition went to print despite breaking down at high levels because the higher-level stuff wasn't well-tested and most groups don't get past level 6 anyway. For an example that old-timers like me recall, older editions had avatars of gods with like 90 hp. You were supposed to kill them then retire to go be a king somewhere or some shit, crowned by your own hand Conan-style because you were just that hard. You weren't actually supposed to keep playing past level 9, past that Thar Be Dragons...I mean utterly untested content!
>>
You know what my take on high-level play is? Things fall apart because it becomes impossible for people to take everything into account. At low levels, the players and the DM are going to be on the same page. The DM knows what the PC can do and what they should want to do, and the players have a good general idea of the threats and challenges ahead of them. But at higher levels, there's a chance of divergence. Our last campaign was very underwhelming because the DM basically expected us to be up to speed with the powers of enemies we'd never seen before (in and out of character) while most of us were RPing characters who weren't exactly into party cohesion (bunch of random people forced to run errants for vastly more powerful people).

Low-level stuff basically plays itself, but high-level stuff requires both more effort in preparation and socially. The best quest I've ver run as a DM was the very first quest of the campaign, and for the reasons I mentioned: Things were clear. I could anticipate what people would do, it was a closed environment, and they did not have unpredictable powers. And because money didn't matter a whole lot, the party actually cared about the nuances of the setting.
>>
Plus at high-levels its fucking hard to do a nice dungeon or quest for your PCs. And you lose a lot of variability in creatures.

"Good morning boys and girls! You're spending another great Saturday morning with your pals at Toon Planet! Your favorite shows will be airing each week from 8:00-11:00 AM!"
>The network has been running for the past three weeks. The initial numbers aren't great, but you're surviving so far. Your main competition in the area is:
>CartoonTV, a Saturday morning block airing on a local network. They're most firmly entrenched, and you've been struggling to maintain viewers in the 9:00 block due to their airing of the popular Japanese import "Great Greatest Robot Tiger".
>Toon Platoon, a Saturday morning block airing on public access. Has a lot of patriotic and educational programming, but precedes the news, so a lot of adults in the household put it on for their children out of convenience.
"No time to waste! We know why you're here! Let's get right to the good stuff, kids!"

No, that's part of the description of one of the characters in Heavy Metal. The plot is that the orb is an evil fucker leading people to their doom until it's finally destroyed.
