This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

So I'm a student from Germany who's aiming to be a teacher, but for that I have to gather some working experience even before finishing my studies and going into the test-year.
I picked a course about remedial courses because the professor there is a cool dude and when the available schools introduced themselves I got into the one school which isn't there to help the weak students but support the strong ones (so I'll be doing a course over 12 sessions, about 90 minutes each) by being a charming motherfucker.

Since I study Latin and English I thought I'd tell the teacher who's taking care of me there and organising shit about 2 concepts, the concept for Latin is basically just giving the kids a lot of knowledge about the roman republic and history in a fun way, the second concept is the one in which you come in.

I'll call it "Dice Stories" and it'll basically be creative writing with a catch, in this case certain elements being decided dice rolls, which also explains why I'm here.

I've been lurking /tg/ for like 2 years, only ever played one campaign of Rogue Trader which didn't last more than 3 sessions though, so I thought I'd ask the more experienced guys here.

There won't be any complicated rules, the kids are like 12 year old so it probably shouldn't get much further than 1-2 = bad, 3-4 = meh, 5-6 = good outcome.

Is there shit I should avoid? Does anybody have any experience with anything like that?

TLDNR: Future teacher introducing dice-assisted story telling to 12 year olds in what basically constitutes a creative writing class.

Come on people, give me some input.
I thought I'd start the first session with an introduction, telling them a simple scenario and then suprising them with suddenly calling one out to make a roll, which would then dictate the outcome.
I wanna do some stuff with groups lateron as well, I'll have around 10-12 kids around I guess, so groups of 4 or 5 with one story teller and the kids doing some stuff with the characters.
Or maybe a chainstory in which the storyteller changes and the kids make suggestions? No idea

But I want to show them that dice make story telling more fun and potentially easier as they basically make many decisions for you, I know there's a lot to it and the randomness can fuck a story up a bit, but still.

Not quite, but my first game was run by the vice principal of my school over the summer. Something you might want to consider is making it an extracurricular thing for after school, basically a club you host and are the teacher support for. That said, what grades does this school cover? Is it middle school (6-8), or higher? Does it have lower grade levels?

That's exactly what it is my friend!

>That said, what grades does this school cover? Is it middle school (6-8), or higher? Does it have lower grade levels?
5-12/13
As I said, they'll be 12 year olds, so probably sixth graders, maybe some from a year above or below if not enough people can make it due to time constraints but I was told that that probably won't happen

How do 40k World Eaters even survive more than 5 seconds outside of combat? GW has painted them as perma-maddened berzerkers who have no self control, how do they remain functional when in a ship crossing the void to the next battle? Are they in fact relatively normal until the point of battle? Onboard a ship do they manage to control their hunger to kill by keeping a throng of slaves beneath decks to vent on, or do they have more clear minded brothers to sequester them when they are lost to rage in an isolation chamber? Could a warband even recruit and bring new blood into their warband from children? How do they restrain themselves in the company of other legions and warbands when joining their expeditions? How do they, if in an independent warband ship, not kill all the crew and slaves?

Could a warband land on a violent and populated planet and set up a refuge, and satiate their hunger when away from immediate war in the rest of the galaxy while taking sons from the most warlike Human tribes present while using slaves, servitors and whatever else?

I want to make a WE warband, but it's annoying that from what I've read they're the least realistic traitor legion in terms of non-combat activities.

It's set in the first few centuries after The Horus Heresy, so there's a pretty far way for them to fall, but the main character in The Talon Of Horus notes how chilling it is to see a Word Bearer incessantly slamming his head against the wall over and over and over again with complete and utter lucidity and not a hint of berserk abandon or frothing lunacy in his eyes. The WE was basically just trying to calm The Butcher's Nails from aggravating his brain chemistry.

This could possibly serve as inspiration for your own interpretation.

I think khorne brings them back to the brass citadel where they fight each other, cultist, xenos chaos worshippers, and daemons until the blood god desires more skulls

I would say the rage is a spectrum. Some are full rage all the time at the end of battles placed in stasis; others after the carnage ends require a little bit of slave slaughter to stay functional while others can suppress the urge to rend and tear while outside of combat where they let go and maim slaughter.

In terms of recruiting I like to think that they don't actively recruit the sane headed after a battle take the geneseed of the Fallen and tend to sell it to peps like Fabius to create more marines; while getting recruits from other csm that feel and fall to khornes calling.

So I had this idea for the start of a scifi campaign and wanted to know if anyone else had had similar ideas or if they'd actually run them.

The players start out exiting their pods, at which time I hand them their character sheets and portraits. All are identical, as they are all clones of the same person.
The idea moving forward would be to have them individualize and customize organically over the course of the game, sort of like how the Clone Troopers did.

Thoughts?

I think its fine (I had a similar idea for an ACTUAL clone trooper based game), but I would get player buy-in rather than just springing it on them.
>>
Probably best to check with your players beforehand to make sure they're okay with it.

Personally, it sounds like fun, but I'd hate to go through all the trouble of character creation just to have my hard work invalidated because "lol we clones now".

>but I'd hate to go through all the trouble of character creation just to have my hard work invalidated because "lol we clones now".
I think OP would give them premade characters.

OP, this could be fun, but you should give the PCs a little bit of wiggle room for individuality; maybe a little bit of point-buy on top of the premade.

Or, "Cthulhu By Cameralight"

The idea is this, /tg/: a game in which the players are the owners, operators, staff etc of a small Hollywood studio during the end of the silent film era and the beginning of the talkies. With the rise of the Vitaphone and the Hays Code around their necks, the studio has to scout talent, scripts, locations and try to turn a profit on nickel shows.

Essentially, this isn't so much a campaign as a framework to hang any number of scenarios from. Why are you out in the middle of nowhere? Because you're shooting a talkie and need to convince that old snaggle-toothed man to let you shoot his house. Why are you grabbing that relic? Because we happen to need one of this shot and it's just lying around. Why are we poring over old and dusty tomes? Because we need some material for the next screenplay...

What scenarios do you think could arise from this framework? Assume that your typical party is probably going to be field team that actually go out and "make film" - so, directors, actors, set techs, lighting guys, screenwriters for on-set edits, producers to be incredibly corrupt and shitty.

An idea I'd had:
>an indie film maker has approached your studio with a reel he says was inspired by Moby Dick and asking for distribution through your studio, but vanishes leaving the reel with you. Soon after, a private detective asks after "the man from Innsmouth", claiming to be hired by Edison and chasing him for not paying Edison's legal fees for using film-making processes on the East Coast. While the film initially appears to be a strange, but spectacular story of a small fishing crew, delving into its backstory reveals that - well, you can fill in the gaps.

The studio has recently produced a piece based on the journals of a scientist returned from a trip to Australia and dealing with his experience of "lost time". Since showing that movie, certain members of the studio staff have started to act strangely, as if their fine motor skills are severely degraded, and speak with strange accents. When the topic of the film comes up they quiver and say "it didn't happen like that".
>>
>>44691335
...shit, OP, that's a sweet idea. Possibly better subtitled "Cthulhu By Limelight", but still, badass.

Quite a lot of scenarios that you could spin off from that. You could present a situation the way "Shadow of the Vampire" portrayed the making of "Nosferatu", where a studio making a horror movie finds their lead actor is more authentic than they knew. Set pieces for a cowboy flick could turn out to be authentic artifacts from a debased tribe that worshipped the Old Ones, complete with curses. Or hell, you could just go the easy route and say some damn fool is trying to film The King In Yellow.

Plenty of chances for other factors in early Tinseltown to complicate the investigators lives too. Organized crime, unrest among the migrant laborers who prop up the economy of 20th century California, drug use among the cast and crew, all can give them shit to deal with. Plenty of avenues to take here.

Kudos for the idea, OP. Will steal.

Hey guys, this is the quest I announced on twitter not too long ago.

Regarding the other quest, I am keeping it on hold until I can flesh out the characters a bit more. It did lose traction around the end, so I guess not many people will miss it.

The title of this quest is provisional. It is a quest revolving around school life, but as usual in my quests there will be a twist.

The hands of the clock on the classroom wall couldn’t move any slower.
As you take note of this, you debate with yourself on whether the fact that you’re learning Swedish is worse than the fact that learning Swedish is compulsory or not.
It’s scary how this play-pretend seems to be more interesting for you than you professor’s class, especially given how much this topic annoys you when it’s discussed on tv.
Then something slowly takes you back to this morning: your friend made you promise to help him with searching a guitarist for his band.
Aki is 17 and still believes he’s going to be a rockstar one day, despite the fact that his singing is mediocre at best. One would guess that being 17 is enough to grow out of the metal band fantasy, but as for every rule there are exceptions.

You start scanning the list of potential candidates, that pretty much overlaps with the list of your friends. Unfortunately no one of them is interested in guitars or musical instruments in general, exception made for some of the girls you know who play piano.
There is, however, a guy who might fit the bill. Antti is in your Advanced Maths and History classes, but he’s more an acquaintance than a real friend. Asking something like that of him would be a little bit embarrassing for you, and there’s no friend of yours who could act as a middleman, putting you two in touch.
What’s more, you are not exactly sure Antti plays the guitar. It’s just something you think you remember, but there’s no definitive evidence on that.

Before you can reach a final verdict, the bell rings, and you start packing your stuff.
Then, in the middle of the process, you feel someone gently tapping on your shoulder. You turn around to see Seppo standing right next to you.

(1/2)
>>
>>44691344

(2/2)

“Hi, Martti. How are you doing?”
Seppo is in your Swedish and Chemistry classes. You’re not exactly friends, so the fact that he’s talking with you might mean he needs something of you. Probably your Chemistry notes, given that Swedish was never your forte.
“I am alright I guess. How are you? Anything I can help you with?”
“If you don’t mind, could you lend me your Chemistry notes? I am really struggling with it”
Predictable as clockwork. You reach for your bag and start digging until your hands meet with a yellow notebook. You pass it to Seppo, who smiles brightly.
“Thanks, man! I would be more than glad to return the favor”
Seppo isn’t exactly the brightest student, but he’s rather popular. Using his connections to your advantage sounds like a good idea.
“Sure, no problem. By the way, do you know any guitarist? I am sorry to bother you with this, but I promised my friend I would help him look for one”

Seppo strokes his chin pensively. “No one really comes to mind, I am sorry”.
It seems like your legendary bad luck struck again. Nevertheless, you force yourself to ask one more thing, just to fully cash in your credit with Seppo.
“What about Antti? Doesn’t he play the guitar?”
The question seems to take him by surprise, but he snaps out of it quickly.
“Well I don’t know. I am quite close with Antti, why don’t you just tag along with me and we ask him?”

>Take the chance
>Refuse
>Ask him yourself without intermediaries

CALLISTO AND EUROPA HAVE GONE DARK. Gravitational sensors picked up a powerful, but brief blip before the blackout. There was scarcely a thing to go on, save for snippets of garbled stream of data that slipped through.

In the beginning of a new space race, the loss of the frontier stations as Earth knew it, would crush their ambitions to reach out and expand. People back on Earth decided however, that they can't fold so easily, not when they're begun to come this far.

They sent you to solve their problems for them. Welcome, Mission Commander Blake Hitches, to your ride to Callisto, setting off from the dug-in Ceres outpost.

You got your crew over Callisto with the use of a suspicious, but experimental booster that sends you into an acid trip version of outer space. Ever since that time, your hallucinations of odd things have gotten a bit worse.

FROM HERE ON, the crew operating your Ceres traveller would be a four man job, headed by Manny Roebuck, and the co-pilot doubling as counselor, Pike Sackett. You rally the surface team, with you and Shae included. The fireteam squad leader, basically heavily armed space tourists with rookie astronaut experience (or so you've been briefed) was led by a certain Mackey Pickster. From what you know, the operations director back on Earth dealt with a company called Strygid Trade Solutions, that sourced this manpower somehow, instead of recruiting directly from military branches.

Aboard your landers are medical and diagnostic equipment to treat and deal with anyone alive at the Callisto base, and a whole lot of demolition charges, most certainly not the kind for your typical mining job.

NOW, the landers have scorched their landing points with a reverse burn. From this spacious clearing, a good look around shows the moon surface to be steady, with a fog tiny flakes of ice gently fluttering in the wind. But from here, the glimmering lights of the Europa base pulse in and out of tune with that gigantic, coral-like metal structure jammed into one of the buildings. From the ground, this strange structure is utterly dwarfing you.

A radio test does not give any response from the base, but it takes five minutes to barely get a line through to the Ceres traveller.

"With the way things are, any line getting through is good enough," Shae says.

With that, you board the explorer trucks from the lander. The lights come on, and shine a cone of light that breaks through the blowing ice. Your vision reaches fades off at fifteen feet, and occassional lulls bring it up to eighteen to twenty feet.

[ ] Let's kick the door in when we drive up to the base.

So I suddenly got invited to play a homebrew game with a friend over role20. They agreed to let me play a normal Beat Cop on the hook that I'll probably be way weaker than everyone else or that it'll be boring.

What's something I can do to make the potentially weakest person in the party more flavorful. I'm not actually sure how a Beat Cop would act besides knowing his Beat really well and the people in it.

Depending on the neighborhood, Beat Cop may be a well-liked, friendly face, a disliked but respected figure who is not to be taken likely, or just like every other thug on the street but with a badge and a paycheck.

Corruption should be like a disease. Once someone starts taking bribes or stealing from scenes or enforcing certain laws to get better commissions, it becomes harder and harder to stay clean. But if you stay completely clean, a bunch of the other cops won't like to walk the beat with you if they have any say in the matter. You gotta walk the blue line delicately.

What are you thinking, anyway? 70s-80s? Modern day? 30s?

So it's the height of the Horus Heresy. Suppose a Space Marine frigate en route to Terra to relieve the defenders gets lost in the warp storms that spring up all over the galaxy. Due to warp fuckery or a Lord of Change looking for entertainment, it arrives in the Sol system 29,000 years prior to it's departure date, in the year of our emperor 016.M2 on January 10. Let's say it was a Space Wolves frigate, cause I like the idea of the navigator getting hammered on Mjod trying to cope with losing sight of the Astronomicon. Anyhow what happens?

They try and find their way back.

Realizing its nothing but Eldar and the occasional Ork as far as the eye can see and no humans anywhere at all they come to the conclusion that they are going to have to settle down before they run out of supplies.

They are going to need the only human inhabited planet they can find.

Exactly which method of subjugation depends on which Lord commands them.

It would eventually occur to them what has happened when they start looking at the stars and their placements.

If Emperor is not present then he really was just a Strife era warlord with Best Korea propaganda.

How do you write fights with your Big Bad?

Assume he has no desire to be captured and no desire to die.

If you want him to reappear later, the "lel he escaped!" excuse gets old and not believable quickly (look at Batman).

Basically, I'm asking what do your Big Bads do when/if cornered? A hopeless final charge doesn't seem likely for most people intelligent enough to be a Big Bad, nor does suicide or simply surrendering to the party's whims.

Always with a back up plan for the BBEG, always. Whether it's using a macguffin to collapse a ceiling, using a magic portal or just running faster than the group. You can have him be defeated, only for the party to either see a henchman drag him out or for him to be ressurrected, even stronger by another, temporary BBEG. Having players try to stop him from coming back and failing can be a great motivator, especially if they see what his armies have wraught.

Had a gm once that wanted us to stay purely on the rails and never do anything else. His games would start with some variation of "your in a bar, there's a terminal."

Last game I remember playing with him was shadowrun. At the begining, to no one's surprise, he started us off in a bar with a terminal. When we tried to do anything that wasn't using the terminal he would stop us in the most ridiculous manner. Eg, player goes to leave the bar, "Ok a bar fight starts up and you get thrown into the terminal. It flickers on."

The most ridiculous was when one player tried to kill himself, his pistol miraculously had now ammo, then dissapeared when he tried to bash his skull in, them tried to throw himself out a window and land right in a bush safely because the window was.actually on the first floor and not on the 5th or whatever it actually was. We all ended up packing out stuff and leaving.
