I'm about to play Dungeons&Dragons for the first time, we are going with 4th edition. The group lack a leader class so I made a warlord, the dragonborn race seems to fit pretty well both with the class and with what the group needs so I went with it. Them I look for some image to use as avatar and look! 1d4chan have a dragonborn page! Maybe the guys from tg have some nice dragonborn images I can use. I found some nice images but not ones I can use...

Is it fair to say that this man had as much of an impact on modern or popular fantasy as Tolkien?
>>44680251
yes.
>>44680251
I was going to say yes, but the more I think about it, the harder it is for me to decide.
He popularized a fair amount of modern tropes in fantasy and gave people the tools through which a lot of contemporary fantasy was created, however, how much fantasy did he himself create?
He built the world in which modern fantasy takes place, but he did not tell the stories. I guess in that sense, yes, he was as influential as Tolkien, but with some reservations.
>>44680251
Certainly on popular ideas about what typical 'fantasy' involves.

I played a Skeleton Sorcerer whom, while escaping from a fucking maximum security prison, found a lockbox, had another party member beat it open, took the broken masterwork lute from it, and then proceeded to brain quite a few guards with it in his daring escape.
That's still my favorite character of all time, to be honest.

You are Captain Hitsugaya, and you are a witness to the battle between the traitor Aizen and Captains Kusajishi and Shihōin.
Captain Ichimaru stands beside you, watching quietly as well. You've never been able to read the man's expression in the past, and you certainly can't do so now. However, it's also true that he's your only real conversation partner at the moment.
“Why are they fighting so erratically?” you ask Ichimaru. Captain Shihōin and Captain Kusajishi's strategies so far have seemed almost nonsensical, as if they're playing games with each other rather than fighting.
Ichimaru frowns, never taking his eyes off the combatants. “You've got talent, Captain Hitsugaya, but poor battle-sense. It's unplanned reactions that tell you the most about what the other guy's thinkin'.”
“So they really are just biding their time with games?”
“Sorta,” Captain Ichimaru nods. “None of 'em want to commit until they've got a better idea what will work. Captain Shihōin likely wants to hold her zanpakuto's techniques in reserve until she can discern their most effective use, while Captain Kusajishi's Bankai is hardly suited to teamwork. As for Captain Aizen, well... you'll see eventually.”
After a powerful blow to the back of Aizen's neck is repulsed in a flash of green light, all three fighters stop in place.
“I see,” Captain Kusajishi sighs. “I suppose we've been taking each other too lightly after all.”
“Indeed,” Aizen bows slightly in a rare gesture of what seems to be genuine respect. “For that I apologize. I will now try my hardest to kill you: anything short of that would be disrespectful.”
“Kyokko.”

>>44679476
With that pronouncement, Aizen wraps what looks like a sheet of air around himself, the edges of his profile blending into the backdrop although he doesn't disappear entirely. What little of his spiritual pressure you could feel is gone now, and for a moment you can see that the Captains are taken aback as well.
Shockingly, it seems that the two Captains really haven't been able to see their foe for this entire time. They've been feeling their way using reiatsu sensing alone, and you're beginning to suspect that if you know it Aizen has realized it as well.
“Now, then,” Aizen seems to mock his opponents, slowly circling like a wolf circling a wounded deer. “Let us see how you fare when you can no longer sense my spiritual presence, nor look at me for fear of my Shikai.”
Captain Kusajishi and Captain Shihōin back cautiously up towards each other, facing outwards, waiting for the strike to fall. You have to wonder what they're thinking right now, how they intend to fight back against an invisible foe.
“Have at you.”
“Ah, it seems they're done with the overtures,” Ichimaru observes. “Now it's time for the first act.”

The "Kido Net" Momo used in ch 334 works more like a spiderweb, which she then blows up by applying her Zanpkato to it.
So what we'd do is now that Azien is two keikakus deep, is to counter his counter to our counter of his Shikai by weaving this kido net, then premptively counter his counter to our counter of his counter to our counter of his Shikai by using Tenkotsuki's ability to "create minor illusions as part of a spell" to have the net be in slightly different positions than it appears so he blunders into it. Then we cast an extremely powerful spell through the net and hurt him badly.

You are ROY POWERS, a Vertical Tank Commander!
"Sir, you called for us?" You ask as you and Tarin arrive in Sawyer's command tent.
"Ah, Roy, just the tanker I needed." Sawyer nods. Alongside him are Bannon and Parker, as usual. "I assume Egan has already showed you the Badger?"
"Yes sir." You nod. "It's a pretty amazing vertical tank."
"That she is." Sawyer nods in agreement. "And we're going to need her. I've just got word back from Command. Reikland has refused to capitulate or even agree to negotiations. That means we have no choice but to make the final push into their capital and MAKE them surrender."
"So we're going in." Tarin observes.
"That's right." Sawyer nods. "Now, you've got one of the few heavy tanks we have. Some of the other units have Badgers, too, but we don't have nearly enough. That means your deployment will be critical.

Sawyer points down to a diagram of Reikland's capital.
"To the North, we have the headquarters for the Reiksguard, Reikland's most elite military unit, being led by an hold friend of yours, Gregor. Now, they're bound to be equipped with Reikland's latest Tigers and Panthers, meaning bottling them up, bogging them down, or preferably eliminating them will be critical. To the east, our scouts have spotted a massive quadruped Vertical Tank, configured to be a heavy artillery platform. We figure it's one of the machines they managed to evacuate from the Iron Foundry. To the west, Egan managed to pinpoint the location of a massive signal transmitter, no doubt to control what's left of their undead forces. Finally, to the south, there's a highway that leads straight to the center of the city. However, that road is sure to be heavily defended. But if we can break through, the rest of their lines will collapse and victory is assured."

Time for a Clash of the Titans.
In a night filled with the warm glow of red paper lanterns on the night of a festival, a small boat bobs up and down in the river. The lanterns are not the only red thing this night. The mayor, carried on a carved palanquin, is slumped over. Servants and revelers and priests are rushing to-and-fro in panic. Mere moments before, you watched the blood spray from this man from behind the crosshairs of your riflescope. He got up, twirled around as though struck with a hammer, and collapsed. Mission accomplished.
However, your sixth sense tells you that not all is right – and you put a great deal of trust in it when ninja are afoot. Indeed, you are in a precarious situation, wedged between two slick rocks with the sling of your rifle tensioned up for firm support and resting the forend on a foam bag between your knees. You look above you and see a young girl, perhaps thirteen or fourteen, looking down at you. You are pretty sure that she hasn't made the mental connection between the events that transpired on the bridge of the town of Sekigai.
You might be able to reason with her. You could also shoot her, though your heart recoils in disgust. However, you might just ignore your discovery and sail back to the opposite bank and leave.
[A] Try to reason with the girl
[B] Shoot the girl dead
[C] Ignore and cross back

Drifting in the emptiness of space you let your arms spread, exposing yourself to the cosmic embrace. A comet sails in the distance its tail glimmering with water crystals.
Silently your spear flows like fractal water from your armor to reform in your grasp. The silence of the void presses in like a suffocating blanket but yet you can feel the activity of your forces churning in the back of your mind, hear the faint whispers of their minds and emotions. Each and every one of them was connected to you, their existence owed entirely to your power.
The thought of whether this must be how the Wormstar itself felt passes through you but you silence your thoughts. You'd been relying solely on your large well of Necrotic power while neglecting your latest gift.
The metal of the spear twists as a flicker of ultraviolet flame flows along its length. You open yourself to the fires of the Void and the flickering flames leap from your armor and bones. Voidflames engulf the spear as it twists and curls in on itself to form a hoop floating before you. Your body glimmers like a small sun of ultraviolet light in the darkness, the circle of voidflame spinning faster and faster.
Swinging the portal around you aim at the comet drifting past. You feed the flames of the Void with your necrotic energy and those flames erupt from your fingertips and fire into the circle of metal with the comet centered in its view.
You watch, with the flames dissipating from your form, as lightseconds away a flickering sphere of voidflame and light swirls into being in the path of the comet before detonating violently. The flames of the Voids mini-singularity consume the comet wholly before detonating in a small nova of light.
Down on the surface of Horizon's Drop the colonists look up to the sky where a comet once sailed, a ragged nova of voidflame marking its death before fading away.

You are Siegfried Schmidt, a former guard from the city of Morsland. Due to various circumstances, you have become the new wielder of Galadriel, a holy sword which houses a powerful six-winged angel of the same name. Now you have come to the White Watchtower, a fortress close to the border between the Forsaken Lands and the kingdom of Iseria, to train with the crusaders so that you can protect yourself from the demons that might come after you now that the sword is in your possession.
After finding the body of Lord Kraemer in his room, you got to work investigating the scene. Contrary to what Leviathan predicted, none of the councilmen were burned by Galadriel's sword, meaning none of them are the demon in disguise. Upon further investigation, you could find no signs of a struggle, suggesting that Kraemer was either caught by surprise or killed by someone he trusted. Finally, it appeared that whoever killed Kraemer also went through his drawers, possibly taking something with them, though you have no idea what they could have taken. After your investigation, you attempted to speak with the king about what happened, but were not allowed into his quarters, though the guard promised to inform the king of what happened in the morning. While there, you encountered the king's son, Prince Dietrich III, who was receiving treatment from the royal healer. As it turns out, the child's illness was due to a rare phenomenon in which his soul was too large for his body to handle. According to Galadriel, this imbalance will kill the prince if not treated, but the only people Galadriel knows could help him are Malaphas, Alastor, and an angel in the Void named Suriel. After promising to visit the prince again some time, you returned to your room for the night.

The morning after Lord Kraemer's murder is a solemn one. By now, word of his death has spread to everyone in the palace, and everyone in your honor guard has been caught up on what you know. So far, it seems only you and the council are aware that demons are involved. Probably for the best, it would likely cause a panic if the city believed a demon was not only hiding amongst them, but managed to kill a member of the High Council.
“...and I want each of you to travel in pairs at all times. No one goes anywhere alone, especially not you Siegfried.” Captain Laurentius explains to the group immediately after breakfast. “Moreover, I want you all searching for any clues you can find that might help us learn this demon's identity. If you find anything, no matter how small, I want you to report back to me immediately.”
The honor guard gives a collective “Yes sir”, and begins to split up. The next High Council meeting will be held this evening, you have until then to search for clues and make any preparations you feel are necessary.
>Go back to Kraemer's room. See if there's any more clues you can find there
>Find one of the councilmen, question them and see what else you can learn (Specify who)
>Head into town, speak with Laurentius's daughter and see if the city guard knows anything that can help.
