Spears are good for formation fighting i guess. Good reach and a simple learning curve for your basic infantry is gold, and paired with a shield you've got a line of guys ready to repel most anything.
Now in a one on one fight, or in a fight where you're outnumbered, thrusting attacks suddenly become a liability. You expose your flank and get overwhelmed, it isn't a fun time. If you're not fighting in a line with other guys at your side I'd recommend a short sword. Slashy, choppy, stabby, lightweight, and effective with just as small of an initial learning curve.

You guys are acting like we're all skilled with weaponry here. You should start with a weapon that's simple to use but packs a hefty punch - the mace. All you have to do is swing it - you don't have to worry where a point is going or if a backhand is using the false edge.

Last time on STANQ; after a body breaking fuck, you heart to heart with your others yous, pay for dildo casts of the exogorth, get a prison tat, sneak back to ship and shower, text al about the gay, go laser tag with three kids, accidentally burn down chuck e cheese gyros joint, snap at athena and ranlis for calling your half blood kid a demon, you force apologies out of the moms, fuck athena for the first time in leading up to 4 years, badger al to come gambling, badger everyone else, no one does, fail at gambling, fail at treating al good when she turns up, fugging al while driving and getting pulled over and doing sick doughies and lying your way out of an arrest, go strip poker, heart to heart sheulk, meet your evidently fucked in the head stalker, who pisses herself, you sneak her to al's room to wash her, she pisses in the shower waking al, who you get to take over as you sneak out, win strip poker, keg stand as reward, wake up with stalker above you who after screams of help is tackled, get breakfast with your now lezzing servants, have a lot of heart to heart and cuddling with receptionist and your son kane, and ended on a timeskip vote.

'That thing' being the titan in the distance, slowly forming itself from concrete and rubble from the city. Even now, I can hear the sound of scraping and screeching as Iron is bent and torn along its exterior.
Slowly, the behemoth takes another massive step. The only saving grace being it's movement. It lumbers along at speeds which would make turtles and snails laugh.

Once the world was nothingness, and then with Domina the Star Mother, She Who Remembers, the first WORD was brought and it was light.
Then came the world with Lorshian, the first moon with Udros the Steadfast. From the rays of Domina’s firstborn, the sun, and Udos’s moon, Molinoth the Remaker, the World Serpent, was born.
The gods of shadow, darkness, death and decay; The Lurker, Nihil None, Ralet and DARK awoke. Ralet was locked in conflict with Nihil None, and The Lurker cast DARK out of the world.
Sleazus appeared and made wine, long before life itself, and began a party of godly proportions that would encompass the first and second ages of the world.
Regolith the Bright was born from the union and light of Domina’s firstborn, a warrior to hold the darkness at bay and spread the light.
Caliban the architect created the second moon.
Naturasta, Amrito and Zatheens appeared and spread water and life across the barren world.
The gods fought against DARK as he entered the world once more and declared war on creation. He was imprisoned within the third moon, crafted by the efforts of Caliban, Zatheens and Heroicus.
Thus, the second age has ended, and at the dawn of the third age, Molinoth and Heroicus walk amongst the mortals.

I'm writing up a VtR2e version of the Tzimisce (based on the V20 and DA20 write ups) for a fellow player in a game I might be joining. It was originally going to just be a quick write up, but I got carried away.
I'm focusing on the aspects of nobility and appreciation for beauty primarily, and admittedly less on the ties to the land. Their fleshcrafting is a reflection of their alien sensibilities, and not necessarily horrifying. "Universal Pictures Dracula as a Toreador that likes David Cronenberg." I'm trying to think of a good Bane replacement, since the whole "sleep in soil of your birth" thing doesn't really encourage any specific playstyle. At the same time, nabbing the Spina drawback is too vaguely worded.
I'd also like feedback on Viccissitude and the new Protean Aspects I suggest. My version of Viccissitude is a series of Protean devotions mostly playing off of Predatory and Unnatural Aspect (2 and 4). Tzimisce in 2e get to shapeshift for free, get additional Aspects, and can keep one Aspect active at any time. Zulo form is kind of difficult to do in 2e; Unnatural Aspect is already just 2 vitae to activate four Aspects all at once, and Chiroptaeran form's wings already come standard. So instead it gives one more of each type of Aspect, and allows the tzimisce to stay in that form for as long as they like. Since going out as a terrifying monster is a masquerade breach and also makes it hard to socialize, this is mostly for flavour.
I'm most pleased with my version of Body Impolitic, which uses Retainer rules. It no longer requires giving up an arm, either.

Ninjas; we know they're out there in Rokugan even if you can't see them (ESPECIALLY if you can't see them), but do you ever use them in-game?
If so, how?
As random out-of-nowhere assassins that have totally unexplained magic like in the 1e book's fiction fluff?
Kolat assassin guys like later all ninjas were retconned to be after they stopped smugly hinting at the existence of the Kolat in the metaplot bits of the GM's section?
Or as Scorpion dressing up funny costumes like they were FURTHER retconned to be?
Or maybe none of the above because the story team is just schizophrenic about the subject?

I still have my ancient 1e book that goes all;
>"Do ninjas exists? No, but also yes! And it's super secret and you only get to know about the super secrets if you keep buying our books, kekekeke!"
And then unaligned ninjas show up everywhere in the CCG just to confuse shit even more then it's already confused, and then there's that ENTIRE BOOK who's premise is theoretically about the economy of Rokugan but it's actually the Kolat book if you read the Super Secret GM Section.....

Ninjas were originally the literal embodiment of metaplot in L5R; they "didn't exist" and we're "totally optional" except they were referenced all the time in the books, PC's couldn't be one no matter what, their origins were full of retcons, their powers and abilities were "secret", their backstory literally driven by the needs of the current plot (Emperor need overthrowing? Scorpion Ninjas. Empeorer gets kidnapped? Darkness ninjas. Unicorn secretly heavily infiltrated? Kolat ninjas.), they had special rules that applies only to them, and you could only find out about them in secret GM sections that you had to buy more metaplot books to find out about.
Kinda glad that in later editions they did away with that shit and just made them more like the real thing; basically they were just samurai trained in sketchy guerilla warfare and commando tactics.
