Tell me /tg/, how divergent should Dwarves/Dwarfs be? Should they be all axe-wielding, drunken, forging Gimli clones or should they be different?
128 posts and 29 images submitted.
>>
>>48380586
They should be different based on circumstance, for example if they were all one empire then they should be similar based on how long ago they were grouped up
>>
>>48380586
Personally, I'm intensely bored with dwarves. I'm completely apathetic toward them and I don't expect that to change either way.

If you "made dwarves interesting" they wouldn't be dwarves.

Tolkien's archetypes CANNOT be deviated from, except for Orcs.

I say that in jest but that essentially is how all fantasy works.

Also, thoughts on white jacketed som'er similar to this guys?

Welcome back, everyone, to Mecha Space Pirate Quest's forty-third installment. You are still the undefeated champ, Roarke S. Starwind, now with another military supermech reduced to yet another notch on your shield.

Last time, as previously mentioned, you ended not just the career of Commodore Rashad Abujamal, Fatima's former betrothed, but also his life.

You also made the fateful choice to aid a young woman in the pursuit of Mohammed's fluffy head. May Jove have mercy on your souls.

You have much more important things to worry about than Mohammed's romantic problems. Namely, you have your own romantic problems, one of which needs you immediately.

Still, going this far for someone you care about is noble. You hold up one finger to cut off her cheerful babble, "One moment, I'll check with the crew. You have a name, right?"

"Of course! Doesn't everyone." The tips of her feet press together as she places one splayed hand on her collarbone, "I am Shukriya Ahmad."

"Shukriya, right." Nope, you've never heard Mohammed mention her. You get out your PC as you walk towards the infirmary with her trailing in your wake like a bouncy shadow.

So recently I have had to step back several times and tell players:
>You realize you're all acting like sociopaths, right? You're not acting like how a sane person would.

I've had to do this after they do something insane then get confused when people treat them like a group of immoral mercenaries who only live for the kill. Essentially when they take murderhoboing to the extreme.

The sky is crisp and a nice bright blue. The gulls are making their noise in their sky, and I can see the island slowly rising up on the horizon as I sit on the rails of the ships, alone except with Ajax and Serri, since everyone else was given some kind of work in preparation for docking. And well, I glance over my shoulder, and smile as I see a group of my comrades chatting happily.

And then one of them turns and turns nearly as white as his uniform. He stumbles back and his friends look down at him in confusion and laugh, before they notice where he's pointing at. And slowly they turn, and freeze, all turning a little blue as their jaws drop and sweat starts to literally pour down their faces.

And they scatter without a word, heading back to work like I just threatened to steal their souls if they didn't get back to it. Yeah people are still like that. I turn back to the island and sigh, shaking my head.

Well at least I still have Ochamu, Yotshi, Bellary, Ajax, Serri...and Jack. I smile as I look over at the island.

It's uh...lot bigger than I expected it to be, and the air is a lot hotter than it was in the west blue, like it decided to turn summer all of a sudden. There are massive sea walls around the whole thing, jagged and shaped kind of like a bear trap, which I'm guessing is how it got its name. I think I can see bridges hanging between all the towering buildings.

It has a battle worn kinda ancient look to it. Well, I'm closer to finding Marty now. I smile, and then frown.

How would space piracy even work if ships have FTL capabilities? Wouldn't it be kinda hard to ambush something going faster than you can see?
111 posts and 12 images submitted.
>>
>>48397603
Ship has to stop moving FTL at some point, you idiot.

Most settings also have FTL be somewhat unstable/require special devices or lanes/unpredictable, so FTL travel is often done away from population centers and the edges of planets except in the most dire of circumstances, especially dropping out of FTL.
>>
>>48397646
>Ship has to stop moving FTL at some point, you idiot.

No fucking shit, but why would anyone ever stop anywhere except secure systems?
>>
I look to EVE for believable solutions to this.

>Portable devices that create a large area to "catch" FTL ships, pulling them out of warp
>Preying on miners/scavvers in low security space who obviously can't do their work going ten times the speed of light

/tg/, what's your opinion on planet-wide cities or ecumenopolises/ecumenopoleis? Do you like them? Do you think they're possible at all or just a sci-fi pipe dream?

Holy shit.

Like totally fucking holy shit.

>>
>>48392331
Probably not possible because of heat reasons and because honestly, who wants to live that close to each other? Hong Kong exists because of trade reasons, freedom, and money, Kowloon for the same reasons. There's also lack of mobility of course.
There's no reason for those reason to extend to an entire planet.
At some point, anyone with money will just want out, regardless of what manufacturing or historical or sunk-cost buildings are on the planet.
>>
>>48392331
I think they're possible, just not with current levels of tech. They would have many, many problems, though, so the only real reason they'd exist is if "normal" life on the planet were somehow worse (i.e. the atmosphere is incredibly hostile to human life, resources are scarce except at a few strategically vital locations across the planet, etc.) to justify their existence.

Remember that things like skyscrapers were once viewed as being literally impossible and a pipe dream to accomplish, and yet now they're iconic of modern progress.

that said, I would have little desire to ever live in one.

Gundyr, whatever his glaive was called, whatever type of metal his armor was, his gimmick is the Iudex fight or just mixing in martial arts. Read up on th story of Gundyr, he failed to link the fire, or do anything about it really, and so he chained himself to a bonfire to test other undead that came along. He sits alone in the dark and just gets stronger. He's a real great guy. Honestly the knight bosses aren't too interesting though.
>>
I suggest reading Berserk. Specifically, the Golden Age arc. You can rip a lot of shit from there.

But to actually answer your question, Red. Uses a halberd and a buckler. Wears studded silk armor. Not very intelligent, but fiercely loyal. They're an enemy because the one they're loyal to told them to oppose you.

>How far away is your FLGS?
It's in the center of the uptown part of my city. I can walk to it and some people do that.

>What's the owner like?
It's weird. I've never met the guy in person, but I'm Facebook friends with him. He seems pretty cool.

>What's your favorite thing about the place?
The vast majority of people are super welcoming and they're always looking or new people to play Malifaux, 40k, Magic or some tabletop RPG variant.

>What's the worst thing about your FLGS?
The stock could be better. Some of the Magic cards have been there since nineteen-tickety-two.

>What's the strangest or most unique thing about the store?
It's right next to a bar, weirdly enough. Sometimes drunks wander in during FNM and ask us if we're "catchin' them pokemans."

>What do you wish they had more of?
I'd like to see some manga and Yu-Gi-Oh represented. We used to have both, but they faded into nothingness, honestly.

>What would you change about it (Not necessarily bad stuff)?

I'd bring in more people for competitive FNM. For being the only FLGS in miles and miles, you'd think more people would attend than eight of us.

>Any other stories or things you'd like to share?

Sorry, no pics, unfortunately.

>What's the owner like?
A curmudgeon, but he keeps to himself.
>What's your favorite thing about the place?
The large numbers of wargames.
>What's the worst thing about your FLGS?
They have rule books, but there are absolutely no miniatures of any kind.
>What's the strangest or most unique thing about the store?
They have shit tons of obscure wargaming supplements.
>What do you wish they had more of?
Miniatures.
>What would you change about it (Not necessarily bad stuff)?
They really need to get a modern receipt maker.
>Any other stories or things you'd like to share?
Nope.

>How far away is your FLGS?
Downtown core of my university's town. Its literally at the bus transfer so its super handy to get to.
>What's the owner like?
Owner is a great guy living the Fa/tg/uy life. He owns his own store with his buddies, and his wife who is also a fa/tg/irl, and teaches games to their kids when they come over after school. Runs everything from DnD to Xwing in the huge play space in the back. Theyre also all super chill and easy to talk to and will be happy to answer any questions you have about something you haven't played before. Sweet dude. I give him my money happily.
>What's your favorite thing about the place?
Charges the US cover price for everything in store, and sells anything that arrives in a damaged box but still in playable condition at a huge discount, or donates it to the local woman and children's shelter.
>What's the worst thing about your FLGS?
Grimmy dank basement location. Pretty sure it has mold in the walls.
>What's the strangest or most unique thing about the store?
Location. In a huge basement complex bellow a sushi joint and the bus station. Its massive.
>What do you wish they had more of?
Bigger comic book section would be nice.
>What would you change about it (Not necessarily bad stuff)?
Add a few windows if possible, or just brighten it up. Improve the smell
>Any other stories or things you'd like to share?
When I was at my first year of school I went there just to check it out, and its where I discovered that there are more rpgs than just DnD and Pathfinder. Been playing Savage and CoC ever since. Owner spent a lot of time explaining how various systems worked, to help my find the right game for my homebrew campaign

I feel the same about this as I felt about this guy's last rpg, Stars Without Number. It's better than the alternatives, but isn't flawless. It's just that, instead of the alternative being Traveller, it's Scion and Exalted. It's also nice having a fantasy setting where the globe-spanning monotheistic faith ISN'T evil for once.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like I'll get the chance to run any of it in the near future, as my group already cycles through ~4 games.

Also, I love the character sheet.
>>
There is absolutely no mechanical reason to *not* place Strength as your lowest attribute score in Godbound, is there? It is practically worthless.

After all, while a two-handed weapon might deal 1d10 damage and use Strength, Dexterity offers 1d10 damage dual-wielding with light weapons as well as ranged attacks and AC.

Also, do Rebel Exemplars have too powerful a benefit? Outright immunity to all mind-reading and mind-influencing effects is an excellent defense considering what Words like Deception and Passion can do.
>>
>>48377979
>It's better than the alternatives, but isn't flawless
To be fair I've never seen a flawless RPG, in part because that's a very subjective thing (How do you define perfection?).

So does it work to run Exalted in that system? Just curious since EX3 is a total and utter fucking mess.
