Ten fun facts about goblins:

1: Horse Hate: Goblins excel at riding animals, but they don't quite get horses. In fact, their hatred of all things horse is matched only by their fear of horses, who tend to step on goblins who get too close.

2: Dog Hate: Although goblins raise horrible rat-faced doglike creatures to use as mounts (and ride wolves or worgs if they can get them—goblins are quick to explain that wolves are NOT dogs), their hatred of ordinary dogs nearly matches their hatred of horses. The feeling is mutual, so if your dog's barking at the woodpile for no reason, chances are good he smells a frightened goblin hiding in there somewhere.

3: Goblins Raid Junkyards: Garbage pits, gutters, sewers… anywhere there's garbage, you can bet goblins are nearby. They're weirdly adept at crafting weapons and armor from refuse, and are fond of killing people with what they throw away.

4: Goblins Love to Sing: Unfortunately, as catchy as their lyrics can be, goblin songs tend to be a bit too creepy and disturbing to catch on in mainstream society.

5: They're Sneaky: An excited or angry goblin is a noisy, chattering, toothy menace, but even then, they can drop into an unsettling silence in a heartbeat. This, matched with their diminutive size, makes them unnervingly adept at hiding in places you'd never expect… stacks of firewood, rain barrels, under logs, under chicken coops, in ovens, etc.

6: They're A Little Crazy: The fact that goblins think of things like ovens as good hiding places reveals much about their inability to think plans through to the most likely outcome. That, and they tend to be easily distracted, particularly by shiny things and animals smaller than them that might make good eating.

7: They're Voracious: Given enough supplies, a goblin generally takes nearly a dozen meals a day. Most goblin tribes don't have enough supplies to accommodate such ravenous appetites, which is why the little menaces are so prone to going on raids.

In order for this to work you'd need to take away control from the player over his character.

If the player is "good" at RPing he will let himself influence from the weapon though, so you just have your weapon whisper ideas to the guy and hope for the best.

Following a fritzy signal to an abandoned parking lot in the depths of Oceanside slums, our merry band encountered a deal going down. Interupting the SolStar agents already staking out the hand-off of a mysterious, volatile briefcase, things escalated into a firefight.

The advanced looking operatives being handed a briefcase containing something so nefarious a security agency was set to intercept it were all quite confused by the fact that the people attacking them with fire and fury seemed rather more intent on acquiring a car.

But then.

There's not a cloud in the sky, and it's a nice blue color today, with the sun rising above me and everything else like a giant sun flower. Perfect time to just laze under it and think. There's a nice seaside breeze keeping me cool, and Alith isn't making too much noise pulling the cart anymore, which is just a gift. I sigh and roll over on the top of the rv, rolling over to the edge of it. I grab onto the lip of it and lift myself up, staring past all the rolling, green overgrown hills and scattered, decayed ruins. I can just barely see the sea now, past all the grass. I sigh and lay down, curling up as I start to think back on a few days ago.

I shiver as that wonderful feeling of dread creeps back into my spine, along with a healthy dash of awkwardness.

I've been trying not to think about it but, Iris wasn't wrong, anyone I'd have a good time with would be damned to hell, and from what I've seen of the place, it really isn't the kind of place I'd like her ending up. Which is kind of funny, since I have no problem damning plenty of other people to it...Funny how these goalposts move the longer I'm in this body, and how things like this don't scare me as much as they used to. Still, I just...can't, I've always been told doing "That" for the first time is supposed to be special and with someone you love.

And I only love Iris like that. Even if the voice and itching in the back of my head and other places wants to change that.

I groan and sit myself up right with a flap of my wings. Right, going to need to stop thinking about this now before I end up ruining my day. Cause this day is too nice to spend moping around about souls and hell and things like that. Besides all this doom and gloom I'm thinking about is putting me down, I should just enjoy myself for awhile, like I always do.

Welcome to A Song of Revenge and Gold: House Malroy Quest. In which you take the reins of a House of storied glorious past since Aegon’s Conquering, but whose fortunes have taken a turn for the worse in the doom that Robert’s Rebellion brought. You are Brynden Malroy, second son to Lord Vamos Malroy and Lady Esemella Hayford and the last living heir to Steadhold and House Malroy. The year is 285AC, two years after the Rebellion and a year after your return to Westeros.

House Malroy is a pre-genned House designed around the idea of a story within the Crownlands of a House fiercely loyal to the Targaryens and their attempts to live in this new world after Robert’s Rebellion. Lord Brynden Malroy is as well pre-genned but will take direction from the players in his ways and how he develops himself further. This Quest will be moderately more story driven than others of its kind, but the development of the House and her lands will take just as much importance.

If you’ve played one of the many Quests within the ASoIaF setting the rules of the SIFRP system should be known. I will be using the Game of Thrones edition, as well as a few of the expansions namely OOSP and a few house rules which will be explained as we come to them. If you have questions about how things work or why certain actions are taken I can explain them as we go along. In truth this is a learning experience for me as well.

“Lords and Ladies of the realm! It is my esteemed honor, no privilege to introduce to you your Semi-Finalist!”

You stand amongst three other men in the center of the yard, the herald not to far off from the the four of you whipping the crowd into a frenzy again. The sound reaches its peak and is softly waved down by the man who places a finger upon his lips for quiet.

“Four men of the Realm. Knights, Lords all! Truly we are blessed by divine light this morning, this day so graciously hosted by the Lord Paramount of the Reach, Lord Mace Tyrell!”

Again they cheer and clap, though to no person in general, the rest of the herald’s words being lost in the cacophony. Lord Tyrell hadn’t made an appearance as far as you know. Just various members of House Tyrell had attended in his place, most prominently to you, Ser Olymer Tyrell, his wife Lady Lysa Meadows, and their two young sons. Ser Arlen Hunt was now sat with him in the high box, both of them acknowledging you with nods and waves.

“...introducing first the green bracket! The Lord of Hammerhal, winner of no less than five contest of bow within the last three years, one of which here in this very field. A man of the Reach, a man of prowess, and the favorite to win it all, Lord Robert Cordwayner!”

A surprisingly large ruckus kicks up at the name, you were surprised to have never heard of the man prior, five victories was nothing to scoff at. Lord Cordwayner stands in place, waving a single arm in response, a stoic look worn upon his face. Likely all Reach contests, but the Tourney in King’s Landing a year past was not out of the man’s Reach, perhaps you had been blessed in not having to meet him earlier or at all.

The voices that cry out in response are higher pitched, smallfolk and noblewomen alike crying out in favor of the swarthy dornishman who still wore that dark smile as he twirled about the field raking in their applause. You cast eyes towards the dornish entourage that had gathered to watch, surprisingly few had reacted to his announcement. He pauses for a moment, flashing the two fingered salute had had prior towards the rest of you, pointing his recurve towards you each in turn, the crowd, ‘ooooo,’ing in response.

The herald attempts to gain control of the crowd again as Ser Rycas walks back to your line up, finally coming to an acceptable hum when he began to speak again, “And second, though certainly no less important, the gold bracket! Introducing first, another man of the Reach. A common sight about Highgarden’s Tourneys, whether it be amongst the lists, the melee, or here upon this very field. A man of unquestioned loyalty, esteem, and honor, favored by smallfolk and nobles alike. The swornsword of Lady Alerie Hightower, Ser Corey Graves!”

Perhaps the lightest reaction of the three thus far, though most of it came from the smallfolk that had gathered to watch the contest and the high box. A woman with flowing gold silver hair, tall, slender and handsome stood, clapping her hands lightly, she wore the colors of House Tyrell, but above her stood the coat of arms of House Hightower, a surprising spectator. Ser Corey Graves bows deeply in the direction of the high box, the woman nodding back for him to rise, which he does with a few waves towards the smallfolk crowds.

Yeah, about that, how much is this getting edition changed? I have the vague impression that it was supposed to be true in 2e as a social commentary on how Power Does Not Equal Goodness, but in 3e they shifted towards the Exaltation picking good people, not just skilled people. But I don't have any specific quotes I can point to.

I'll be starting a game 3E soon and I need some input. I'm keeping things simple and gave my Zenith character the motivation to restore the cult of the Unconquered Sun. Now, while the GM has admitted he's going to play a bit loose with the setting overall, the UCS will remain as he was in canon. So what exactly would a cult of the UCS be like, or at the very least some religious philosophy (think Buddhism) where Sol Invictus is at the center? I was thinking some 'way of life'-style mentality where individuals are expected to live as virtuously and heroically as possible and basing things off the four Virtues of previous editions (as I recall UCS had max virtues).

Is that too simple/generic or does it work just fine?

The "righteousness" of the Solar Exalted gets mentioned in the text, just like it always is, but they still have a Charm that makes "I dislike them" a sin worth of burning and torturing someone, sooo.

In Fate I played a political officer type character with minor magical powers. Most of his skills went into martial prowess and utility support (High Will and Notice, decent fight, shoot, physique and agility, low magic) while magic was used as a utility skill, pushing opponents around or settting zones on fire so that they are no longer safe to inhabit.

Mechanics-wise, there are only two practical methods of enabling "gish"-type characters that have meaningful diversity in build options.

A. Designing spells expressly for such characters, such as spells that upgrade weapon attacks. Entire gish classes with spell selections tailored to such a playstyle also work. Any "gish"-type that satisfies neither A nor B inevitably does not work as advertised and forces one down extremely specific builds, and veering away from those builds results in a mediocre character. Prime examples of this include Pathfinder's magus (which has a shockingly, no pun intended, low number of optimal builds) and 5e's eldritch knight (keep to abjurations and do not even think about casting a damage-dealing evocation).

You're forgetting spells that aren't designed for gishes but benefit them anyway, such as buffs for martial types that can be also cast on ones self, and control effects that change the local battlefield whether from far away or with you in the thick of it.

Alright, so i listened to anon and scrapped the old shitty magic progression for a point buy progression instead. The spell costs follow an exponential curve so higher level spells are much more expensive. Furthermore all spells can be cast as subtle spells for double the spell point cost starting at 7th level, and cast as a bonus action for triple the cost starting at 13th.
