What's the easiest way to run a game online?

I've tried to start a few games unsuccessfully here and am not sure what I could do to increase my odds of success.

I think a lot of other people have this problem too due to the low success rate of the gamefinder threads.

One of the biggest things is just what system to use. Pathfinder/3.5 seems to have intense love and hatred but are bad/messy systems to use.

Rules lite systems are also scorned from what I've seen.

I'm bad at learning new systems if it isn't hands on from the perspective of a player, so picking up GURPS or whatever else is hot is a bit unfeasible.

What does /tg/ recommend?

>Rules lite systems are also scorned from what I've seen.

Which is bizarre because online is where you really need rules lite systems. I don't want to sit in front of my computer for 1 hour while people are making their characters. I don't want to stare at porn for 5 minutes while the wizard reads all his spell descriptions to figure out what spell to cast.

Rules light systems make online games run much faster and more smoothly.

Hey Alphonse

So are you saying the reason your games fall apart is that the system isn't good ? Are you sure there isn't anything else ? I find it hard to believe.
It could be bad scheduling of sessions, not enough discussion with the players before hand, or getting players who just aren't that into it. I recruited players from a gamefinder thread once to complete a group ; out of almost ten people who contacted me, read some of my lore and said they really wanted to play, only one actually ended up playing with us. The others disappeared on me after one long discussion about the game, some even did that after a few discussions, and stating several times in different occasions that they wanted to be part of the group.
I feel like people tend to have shorter attention spans for online games and just drop out easily.
But seriously rules lite systems aren't scorned at all, it was for Fate that I got so many people contacting me. And you could learn Fate easily

Do you think it would be scary to fight them or is IG used to Orks by now? Are they even a threat at this point? You have terminator ripoffs, xenomorph ripoffs who eat entire planets, hell, and a bunch of BDSM loving elves so in comparison Orks look tame. Hell even Tau are more menacing because of their guns. Remove Orks they are shit.

>Do you think it would be scary to fight Orkz

You fucking bet it would.

>Be Imperial Guard infantryman
>Spent the past week fighting Orkz
>Those guys were brutal, one picked up one of your squadmates and casually ripped him in half
>The poor bastard had a shotgun, not like it did him much good, took another dozen lasgun rounds to drop it
>Those big fucks are even worse, you swear to the God Emperor their skin must be made of Plasteel
>You've never seen one feel pain, either, Sgt. Jenkins took one's leg off yesterday, didn't stop the thing from crawling at him like a crazed madman
>The Chimera's currently undergoing repairs, rugged as it is the terrain and constant use of explosives by the Greenskins has worn the old girl down
>You check your last Lasgun chargepack, haven't seen a supply drop in days
>Only 30 shots
>Orkz could be anywhere, and you know you can't kill more than 3 with that kind of ammo unless Big E. suddenly decides you're saint material
>Not getting close to those greens either, things are stronger and tougher than even the biggest guys in your platoon, thrash about with their torso-sized slabs of metal and there's no way you're parrying that shit

Is there any pratical difference betwen "this spell can't be countered" and "this spell can't be countered by spells or abilities" or is it just to make cards that target countered when their targets become illegal?
>>
>>48808606
"This spell can't be countered" means it can't be countered. At all. By anything.

"This spell can't be countered by spells or abilities" just means it can't be countered by spells or abilities, but the rules of the game can still counter it. This is why you see 'by spells or abilities' on spells which target, and the 'can't be countered' on spells which do not. If Rending Volley just said "Can't be countered", then it would still resolve after I gave the target Hexproof or Shroud, because the rules of the game can't counter it. Hell, it would technically resolve if I made the target stop existing!

So, yeah. That's the reason for the wording.

Not sure if this is quite a valid question, but it's been rattling around my head a bit. Do you have any idea if MTG plagiarized from Master of Magic, or is it the reverse? The color scheme is too similar between the two to be honest coincidence.

Welcome to the Accidental Magical Girl thread!

Various worlds and multiverses have become connected together via the mysterious Overcity, a sprawling landscape inhabited by monsters and magical beings. Girls and boys endowed with their new supernatural powers can work together solving conflicts that arise!

>This is NOT a greentext adventure style CYOA with one GM and thread posting to dictate the adventure, but rather a hub thread for multiple storycrafters to use.
A majority of activity (including campaigns) instead happens in the Discord, which is open for newbies to join.
Characters can be rolled with the CYOA's purple PDF, and the Supplementary Combat System can be used for campaigns and PNP.

In Godbound, any non-divine character (mortal heroes, mortal wizards, mortal epic level 25 druids) is helpless against divine magic. They can't resist divine magic, they die automatically to divine disintegration, have no mean to resist divine mind-control, etc.

So even a level 1 Godbound can completely roll over even the strongest of mortal heroes.

Why is this allowed?

What is the difference between a fire elemental, a fire spirit, and a fire fairy?

A wood elemental, a tree spirit, and a tree fairy?

An ice elemental, an ice spirit, and an ice fairy?

Do you really need to have all three types in a single setting?
14 posts and 6 images submitted.
>>
Elementals are physical manifestations of the natural world. Even if they're spiritual entities, they manifest in very tangible ways.

Spirits, on the other hand, might represent the same things but in a much more ethereal and conceptual form, much less physically present and more able to act within the themes of their element as well as its physical effects.

Fairies are an entirely different sort of thing, elemental fairies are just servants of Fae Lords channeling various sorts of natural powers, but they have a much less direct relationship to nature.
>>
>>48807324
Of course you don't need all of them in setting, you can do whatever you want.

>fire elemental
Incarnation of a primal force. More savage, not necessarily anything resembling a creature.

>fire spirit
A formless intelligience related to fire. Maybe the guardian of the campfire, keeping evil beings away while travellers rest, maybe a vengefull soul that was burnt on the stake unjustly.

>fire fairy
That's just a fairy with a nick for fire magic. Not much different than a pyromancer.
>>
>>48807324
>Do you really need to have all three types in a single setting?

Do you really need all those elements and damage types, nigga? You've got piercing fire damage, radiant bludgeoning damage, there's negative channeled constitution drain, there's positive charisma burn, there's profane temporary hit point damage, and even city damage.

WFRP IS AWESOME

Hitting shit is hard and deadly and you can start off as a grave digger.

It also has the most amazing multi-classing/leveling shit ever.

I have never played Rune Quest so I must assume it is shit and that my preferred game is superior.

So I've been looking to run a one shot SCP-styled session and have decided to go with the Nemesis ORE RPG. After reading through its rather short bit of crunch I thought it'd be a cool system to run, though the one thing I'm having issue with is creating monsters or NPCs for the system.

Has anyone used this system before? What did you like or dislike about it? How did you go about making NPCs/Monsters in it? And if you were to suggest another system other than Nemesis, what would you pick?

Sup /tg/. Question for a possible CoC or Delta Green game. What would an Elder Thing cult turn out like? Deep Ones and Mi-Go are the usual culprits for turning remote towns into staging grounds, but there's at least a few more surviving Elder Things buried in the polar ice, and perhaps even entire surviving cities in the deep ocean, so it's likely that one will happen eventually.

I'm picturing something close to the Martian cult from Stranger in a Strange Land, alien thought infecting human brains and giving them mental powers above and beyond most humans, crossed with the mixed human/mutant civilization that Artyom prevents from arising at the end of Metro 2033.

In the game I might try to misdirect my players and use their assumptions about me to lead them totally off-base about where the campaign is going. The cult will make a smash entrance onto the biotech scene, with disease cures, miracle crops, modified livestock, and protoplasmic soup that can produce fertile topsoil from garbage and render deserts arable. If I pass off the obsession with five-pointed symbols as pentagrams I might be able to fool them into thinking the campaign is secretly Christian and I'm ripping my story from Left Behind. It will eventually unravel as the Stranger in a Strange Land parallels become more obvious, they encounter the private military of combat-optimized Neanderthal hybrids, or discover the cults virulent hatred for Deep Ones and Mi-Go, or its founders mysterious antarctic expedition.

What do you think?

Depending on which interpretation of the mythos you believe, the elder things might have been the ones to actually uplift humanity from dumb apes to intelligent bipeds.

Most likely an Elder Thing 'cult' would consist of a cadre of elite human scientists who deal with the star-headed men as, while certainly not equals, at least colleagues. They are, after all, "men" of science. A "cult" would most likely be human scientists working in concert with them on some great project, or carrying out their wishes in exchange for technological or eschatological knowledge.
>>
Lovin your idea. Having the insanity of the world slowly begin to be revealed is the heart of the mythos.

I have only been playing MTG for about 5 months, and am unwilling to buy single cards. I mainly have cards from SOI (Shadow of Innistrad) and EM (Eldritch Moon). I have tried making quite a few decks but I can't even compete against anyone at any Friday Night Magic events. I don't know what to change.

I Have quite a deck that I would be willing to show links to on tappedout.com

The long and short of it is that you need more experience. play more games, watch more games, listen to pros talk about their card and game play choices (LSV in particular is great at explaining things).
As your game knowledge increases, so too will your card evaluation skills, you will use those skills to build better decks.
Also, buying singles is just good fiscal sense, I'm sure some other anon will explain how if it isn't obvious.

This. You will learn about efficiency and what your meta has. Look at the specific kinds of cards that are giving you a hard time or certain strategies and try to fix that.

And buy singles, you will save money.
