Hey I'm running a setting that's technologically around 1200 with art heavily influenced by the 400-700 period. with a little bit of magic thrown in. I need art of Byzantine and Italian stuff from 400-1000. English and German stuff is appreciated. I just need stuff that isn't Scandinavian, as I have too much right now. Also general Medieval History thread.

Fantasy is okay, just need good art. I just need it to not have plate armor or fantastical looking castles because the wealthiest regions look more Roman, Byzantine and Arabic in appearance.

Imagine that you have a Spelljammer-like fantasy universe with all kinds of exotic worlds, suns, gas giants, water worlds, and so on. In Spelljammer official material, there is a gigantic sun called Garrash that has floating continents of rock and metal, and Greyhawk's own sun has many lakes of water with water elementals living in them.

From a perspective of "usefulness as adventure sites," do you really need elemental planes in the multiverse if these mortal planets and stars exist?

How is a plane of fire so different from an exotic sun?
How is a plane of water or ice distinct from an exotic water or ice world?
How is a plane of air different from an exotic gas giant?
How is a plane of earth distinct from the crust and mantle of any appropriately exotic world?

Could you not just cast these celestial bodies as "elemental plane(t)s" and have elementals, elemental portals, etc. come from there? You could even have D&D-style elemental genies whose great cities wander, disappear, and appear in different celestial bodies.

You could still have a plane of primordial protomatter where worlds are forged, like AD&D 2e's Deep Ethereal or D&D 4e's Elemental Chaos.

>>
You don't need to have a specific plane of [insert element here] I think it would be cooler to have places that have a greater or lesser affinity for certain elements.

For example; a world with fire affinity would be closer to it's sun and be a desert world while undernearth it could have a strong affiliation for shadow (which could/would be consistant across most worlds so your Plane of shadow is linked to all deep underground areas of different planets)
>>
In OD&D the astral plane was bijective with the material plane. The astral plane was mostly empty because space is mostly empty and the "outer planes" were other planets.

>For example; a world with fire affinity would be closer to it's sun and be a desert world

How would this be any different from a world that is simply... close to a sun?

Would all suns, water worlds, and ice worlds not already be fire-, water-, or ice-attuned?

I want to use milestones in 5e. My notion is that after a certain number of combat encounters, abilities refresh like a short rest. How many is reasonable?

Why is this comic noteworthy?
>>
>>48813857
It really isn't, it keeps getting posted here and I just don't get the appeal. It's not like the internet is so starved of 40k fan content that they should have to care about something like this.

It's not even bad, just bland.

I'm guessing it's being posted by the comic creator with how regularly it turns up.

What makes a bad character portrait?

If the entirety of the character portrait can fit in a paragraph, why even have one.
>>
>>48813340
Cliched is bad, but that's more your fault then the character portrait. I guess the only things that would make the portrait bad are if it's not a portrait or the image is just low quality. Everything else is the fault of your character. Overall, a character portrait should show the tone, appearance above the shoulders, and some of the clothes of the character.

Well, we finally did this shit. Preview 24 is out for Halo Mythic. So yep, it's still alive!

Download:

I know it's been almost 10 months, it seems, since the last update. Sorry for how long this took. I lose steam every once in awhile. This time, though, we finally have a new update for you.

This update simplifies to-hit and Special Damage so you don't have to worry about extra damage and attack rolls every time you fire or hit someone. Now you only need to worry about this when a Character is below 0 Health or unless a crit damage was made. Characters also don't die as easily after going under 0. Your Toughness Modifier, multiplied by 5, is the limit you can go negative in Wounds before dying. This allows characters to take damage and rack up that Special Damage before dying. Gives you some character when your arm is blasted off while you're still able to survive.

Character Creation was also updated. You no longer roll for your Characteristics, and instead, are given a point pool. This point pool removes the luck from Character Creation. Characters no longer means one Character rolling 4 20s, and another being stuck with multiple rolls under 9, just as an example. Everyone will be on a more even playing field, and can distribute their points as they please.

Many changes were made, and we will be continuing the changes going into Preview 25. With new books, graphic novels, and games coming out in the next six months, we'll have a lot of new content coming!

>You no longer roll for your Characteristics, and instead, are given a point pool.
Why can't we choose between them?
>>
>>48812799
We've been moving towards a system like this that was less about luck of the dice and more about working a choice-based system. You have your equipment packs, specialization packs, soldier types, etc.

I felt that removing the luck of the draw would help make the playing field feel more moldable and more personalizable.

And adding too many systems you can choose between would muddy the system down more than it already is.

Are 40K demons stronger than fantasy demons?
25 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
>>48811962
Yes. Greater Daemons pop up and get killed before they destroy a country. Lesser Daemons are killed by a few guys with swords.

In 40k a single Greater Daemon effectively renders the planet lost unless there's Astartes nearby (there are exceptions, of course) and Bloodletters are dangerous in close combat for Space Marines and Eldar, each of the two making non-named elite fighters in fantasy look pretty bad.
>>
>>48812200
fantasy demons could refer to any number of interpretations, not your specific usage of the term
>>
>>48812403
I assume this is bait because even though he didn't clearly specify "Warhammer Fantasy" OP is clearly asking about the differencer between 40k Daemons and Warhammer Fantasy Daemons

Why does the Warcraft setting suck so bad at cosmic horror?

They introduce things like Eldritch entities, faceless ones and starry cults and basically do nothing interesting with them.

None of the Lovecraftian elements ever amounted to more than just window dressing, it was all just a gimmick.

The Old Gods were basically just C-list villains meant to hold you over until the Legion came back.

High magic settings and elder gods don't mix well in my opinion. The Elder Gods and the unknowable are scary when you aren't flinging magic left and right, dabbling in the unknowable and mystical and magical pretty much constantly and unleashing torrents of it at a whim.

The BBEG and his destiny was a blatant clone of Euron Greyjoy if every poorquentyn prediction about The Winds of Winter came true. So, it was sort of basing a character on someone else's character that hasn't actually been written yet, only speculated about by fans.

However the party never met him (they weren't meant to) and the situation was resolved without the party's intervention.

They never caught on because they've only seen the television series and the show fucked Euron up to an insane degree.

I once infuriated a GM by making a Druid done in the style of Johnathan Strange and Mr Norell.

He had all of the druid class abilities and powers. But he didn't act like a dirty treehugger who lived in the woods. He dressed and acted like a old timey british gentleman with an eccentric streak who happened to have the secrets for calling upon the forces of nature by well researched ancient contracts.

He didn't wear metal armor because is was damned uncomfortable and he was no soldier, not to disparage that honorable profession. He didn't wield metal weapons because truth be told they are rather ghastly, aren't they? All that cutting and getting blood everywhere. A gentleman should aspire to a cleaner standard of warfare, given the unique opportunity to pursue such a task. Like sleeping spells, or binding your enemy with vines. Or intimidating them into standing down via an army of spiders. Fascinating creatures, spiders, did you know...

The GM was absolutely livid because he insisted I wasn't playing my druid 'right'. I assured him that everything I was doing was within the bounds of what druids were and were not allowed to do by raw.

So, obviously, he had my character torn apart by werewolves in a town where silver was forbidden because it was deemed unlucky. Which lead to the rest of the party dying soon after, because aside from a couple of potions I was their source of healing.
