Let's build a setting /tg/ cause I need one in two days or I'm fucked.

Let's start with easy mode rules. Explain a picture in relation to the setting.

Hard mode, add too someone else's picture.

Supergod mode: draw a picture of a setting thing OR explain leader, Capitol, and religion of your faction!

The steampunkrock super gang, the red kings, are known as a roving country due to its massive membership. Living like the ronins of West Kappa they explore the world and topple governments. Some say they're anti-Knights but it's all a party to these guys.

Leader: King Killah, the half-rhino splice Mage. They say he's as old as the first kingdom but most think it's a passed down name. They're mostly wrong.

Following The Red White, a preacher philosopher of the Red Kings, they believe that rules are a inhuman structure and by living hard and fast everyday they'll reach a better afterlife.

30 years ago this would be a picture of the slums but during Great Awakening New Strutter saw the starving artists of New Strutter create wonders. The end result is that the old Slums house philosophers and Mage princes that build out...rather oddly.

King Killah rose to power extremely quickly by caving in heads of assholes, and there were loads of assholes. He doesn't seem to be much nicer than any other Red King he brained to get the spot but he also doesn't seem to be too interested in giving out orders that aren't "Dat thing you got, where you get it?"

Rumor is the last answer was Ricki Lord's crown because the Red Kings are bringing the party north.

Requesting a better version of this girl. She is basically the Kwisatz Haderach of my story, the genetic gifts her family has are greatly magnified due to the weird circumstances of her birth. As a result the vaguely-realistic gun combat of the story is punctuated by her uncanny sniper rifle shots. To that end I gave her the in-world equivalent of an AWP rifle and Tec9 pistols as an homage to Counterstrike. I would love if someone could draw a better version of her. Maybe jumping while firing a rifle, or shooting from behind a tree, or just posing with a rifle or her pistols in the forest. Or just your own interpretation of her. Thank you in advance to anyone who tries it. I have been trying to do requests myself but seeing as I drew pic related, they are not particularly good. But, free art is free art, I guess, and I definitely need the practice. Someone asked me to draw them a female version of Kael'Thus Sunstrider (?) from World of Warcraft which I fulfilled but I don't know if it was being used for an RPG character or if it was just a random request.

Requesting a drawing of Derry Hopsmith, my Stout Halfling Monk. I'll just post the backstory I wrote for him cause it paints a pretty good picture. I like to imagine his clan has that super long Kender hair but done up in a kung fu braid.

Also we've decided that since Dwarves are all for some reason scottish, Halflings are Welsh.

Hey /tg/, I was hoping to get some advice from you. So I'm trying to better my GMing style and habits for my next endeavor for the betterment of my players; namely in the ways of initial preparation, forward planning, and actually providing a world where the PC's can achieve the overall goal of the Campaign in a semi orderly manner.

I was reading through the "Tracks in the Sand" pdf and the recent "When you know the game is going to be a shitshow" thread and it pointed out a couple of glaring flaws that I have. As said before I want to actually have a campaign that (within reason) logically reach the conclusion, while leaving the world more open than I ever have before. The problem is, while none of players complained about it (except for the players that only stuck around for one session and even then showed huge red flags), my campaigns were/are railroaded to the extreme. The players, while willing were forced through predetermined quests and artificial moments that I created on a whim; all the while, I was making up these things on a week by week basis, sometime even two days before the session. Which is where the need for growing in the ways of preparation comes in.

So I come to you for advice /tg/:

#1: How many quest and plot hooks linked to revealing the main plot would it be best to have around when starting out in the first city? I have total of 5 quest hooks, 3 of which are plot hooks for the overarching goal, and 2 for if the players find the first three not worth looking into and can be tied into the plot later. In short, how much material should I prepare in advance for this sort of campaign? And should I cook up more plot hooks after one has reached it's conclusion, even if others are still unexplored?

#2: How do I connect it all together without severely limiting player choice and also keeping logically advancing at a satisfying pace? For clarity and completeness sake, the ideal goal of the campaign (as no plan survives contact with the players) is that PC's find out that the king of the Elves, Orius Starlock, eldest of the three kingdoms, is conspiring with the Formians to open portals to Feydark across the continent. With the lands tie to the physical plane being shakey enough as it is, will eventually be pulled in and merged with the Feydark thus expanding the realm of King Thrumbolg, First Lord of the Formians. The players of course must stop this from coming to pass.

If you guys have any advice along those lines, or anything else to add that would really be appreciated! And apologies in advance if my writing is rambling and/or confusing, I'm a bit scattered brained when I'm nervous. I just want to create the best possible campaign for my players, present and future.
>>
>>48748659

5 is plenty. Usually I start games with all the players having a single objective they are all already there to do and just let them go wild. Giving 5 to choose from is plenty.

Only answer to number 2 is git gud. Usually you can make connections by having them get jumped or find the remnants of the evil forces at work. Like, no matter what the quest is you can find some way to slip in a goon with a tattoo of the evil, or wearing the clothes of the evil, or even just finding note that the evil dropped.
>>
#1 Seems like a decent number of quests to start off the campaign, the important bit would be making them seem different enough from one another so that your players don't realize they all lead to the same plot except in retrospect.

#2 The way I've handled this during my games is by making a conspiracy pyramid. Essentially there are separate levels of a conspiracy that goes from proxies to underlings to bosses. You have the characters defeat a part of the organization at the lower level and then leave breadcrumbs too higher parts of the organization. It could be an accounting ledger that leads to a shipping company, a stone with markings that makes magic portals work or a signet ring that has to be identified by the family insignia on it. The point being is that one clue points to a different part of the organization.

When your players want to be distracted and run around for a session or two that's fine but try to make it so that their actions tie back to the conspiracy. For example, if they run off to the woods so that the druid can commune with the wild, have it tie back in by stumbling across a broken portal from earlier in the scheme. Eventually your notes should look like the ramblings of an insane conspiracy theorist.

One problem that I have encountered from this type of game is a lack of iconic villains to fight. I haven't really got a good solution for this one, I've tried enemies they could meet but not fight but that seemed somewhat unsatisfying, but this is something that varies from person to person. Then again you could keep one note villains interesting or possibly turn them away from evil as a way to keep a fun character around. I dunno this is one area that my conspiracy style games need working on.

Note that if you have the conspiracy retaliate don't just be a dick to your players, make it so that the players can retaliate back themselves and win decisive victories against them.

An interesting thought came to me. There are no shortages of games where you play as a power and heroic individual or some kind of criminal but what about playing as a emergency rescue person? Especially with Pic related.

>Have power armor to help you move around in your high tech firesuit,
>Carry around heavy equipment like axes and chainsaws or Backpacks of fire fighting agents
>if sufficiently far in the future you could be fighting nano swarms the catch fire let loose by terrorist

Intriguing.
>>
>>48748173

>A large cargo ship is stranded in space broadcasting SOS
>Was struck by an unknown object that has caused extensive damage to the engines and life support
>After putting out the fires and restoring life support and gravity you find out the ship's sensors were tampered with to prevent it from detecting and avoiding objects around it.
>>
>>48748173

I think I saw a game like this in a LGS though I don't remember the name.

I think the big reason is that fighting fires and emergency rescue can't really be part of a grand narrative as it currently exists in our popular consciousness, you'd want to tack on some CSI elements to keep things engaging.

I want to make a hell spawn (think spawn, from image comics,) race for dungeons and dragons, fifth edition.

Are there any guidelines for homebrew races in 5th edition, similar to the book in race for pathfinder?

One thing I want to do for them, since they are made from necroplasm and have no need to eat, sleep, or drink, is give them something similar to the living construct creature type, or something living native outsider or aberration.

Does anyone else have any advice? I'm pretty sure when actually playing one the warlock class would fit the best thematically. I don't want to just use tieflings and head canon them as hell spawn because I believe they're different enough to warrant their own race. After all, they weigh 400 pounds at a minimum and can survive virtually anything beyond destroying their heads.

So would living construct be best, or is there a different type that would suit them best?

I'm thinking perhaps a custom warlock boon would work out best to flesh out their suit - maybe a pact boon that gives them the living armor?

Any ideas would be appreciated!

Now that I think about it, it's the custom pact boon I could use the most help with, and the accompanying invocations.

Suggestions?
>>
So here's the problem:

If you put in a race that is invincible unless you destroy their head, why wouldn't everybody be them?

Also not sure how close you want the lore to be to the source material but from what I understand wouldn't it make more sense for them to be a class?
>>
One thing we need to note - beyond their healing factor and extreme strength, their combat prowess comes from training, its not something they're born with. Hell usually picks the best soldier of a generation for a hellspawn, to compliment them winning the super power lottery. It's naturally be overpowered to model this in the system, so we're going to mostly ignore this and just give the warlock class some nifty bonuses.

Another option though, is making it a prestige class that a requirement for is changing your race to hellspawn. That way you stack your fighter levels with your hellspawn levels. I think that might be a bit too difficult.

Perfect modeling Al Simmons would probably be a gestalt Fighter/Warlock with a custom pact boon for the suit.

So /tg/, lets share some stories and creativity.
Players and dms.
I want, and offer, villains.
All shapes, sizes, types and motives. Ones you have used before, ones you plan to use or even one deployed against you
Let me throw a few out to start it off!

Nig'dara the lich.
Is on a hiatus from his Evil Plan, relaxing by terrorising city (the plot hook).
Is actually just mucking about on sokething he calls a "skateboard" and embarrassing the local guard and paladin order. Leaves magical graffiti in conspicuous locations and mocks relentlessly. More of an nuissance than threat, escapes trouble since fighting bores him.

No.2
This one from a dnd i was running a while ago.

Epic level fighter that simply refused to die.
Was originally LG, but when killed decided his task was not yet finished, fought his way out of his eternal reward and has begun subjugating the kingdoms for some unknown end.
Good luck keeping him down.
>>
>>48748023
And a third, others will have to wait until later, work calls.
Another dnd camp.
One of the players.
Was a magic low setting.
Secretly 40k feral world.
One of the players sold his soul to a waifu slaneeshi daemonette in exchange for magic powah.
Of course he didnt realise it at the time, but the daemonette never lied to him, he just didnt ask about the details of "pledging himself to the Prince", just signed the metaphysical line so fast i had to scramble to keep up.
Shame it fell apart.
Another was using a daemonweapon of tzeentch and buying into the hallucinations telling him he was the "true heir to the throne", and urging him to "retake his rightful place" and shit.
The way it was going it was going to end up a daemonworld by incompetance rather than design.
Would have been fun when the sword wielding one shanked the inquisitor/regent by the daemon he was letting puppet him though.
"Wait cant i fight it?"
>he asked for control and you gave it m8 kek
>>
>>48748023

I could see the lich being interesting for a lighthearted start for low-level characters. You really want to pay attention to lich lore though in terms of "more nuissance than a threat"

So have any of you played it yet? The creator made the XCOM Board Game and the Game of Thrones game, so how were those, for reference?

>Thanks to advances in man/machine interface pilots have the ability to transfer their conciousness into the chassis of advanced air and space fighter craft
>This is done by creating a partial clone which really only needs the brain, spinal column and nervous system which are connected to a "Black Box" that acts as a life support system and can plug into and out of various chassis for tactical flexibility
Doing this has allowed these fighters to be used in ways that would kill a normal pilot physically seated in the cockpit as well as extended long range missions that a normal human would not be able to do.
>The primary disadvantage is the condition known as longing where the pilot will begin to experience mental and emotional degradation from being outside their original bodies.
>The safest operating time allowed in this manner is up to a full week for most pilots until the more severe affect of Longing begin to take hold
>You and your strike wing have been out on an extended patrol mission and word has spread of a suprise attack that is preventing you from rejoining with the Fleet and you're 3 days in towards your maximum operating time.

>The primary disadvantage is the condition known as longing where the pilot will begin to experience mental and emotional degradation from being outside their original bodies.

If you've got the technology to do shit like this, and also clone human body parts, couldn't human clones be outfitted with cybernetic bodies that they can be plugged into that allow them to experience humanity more or less the same as a human body?

Potentially, you could actually incorporate such a cybernetic body into the pilot's chamber itself, and it's jettisoned in case the craft gets damaged. The pilot can now act on their own or even be outfitted with an armored combat morph body to continue their fight on the ground until they can be recovered or even just to cause as much havoc as they can behind enemy lines.
>>
>>48747342

The black box can't carry a spare body. It's literally just the brain and spinal cord and a few cybernetic organs to simulate certain body functions needed to keep the brain acting normally. Not only that the Black Box needs to be plugged out of the craft and into another unit so while you can eject the black box you're pretty stuck until serivce personnel can pick you up and stablize you.

Worst case scenario you can be put sleep to stave off the effects of Longing but doing so with no guarantee of pick up is dangerous as you can't disengage the process once done.

I really do love the look of the Longsword, shame we never got a Halo level where we get to use one

And for something relevant to the topic at hand, a few months ago after watching pacific rim I was toying with a similar idea to yours, only instead of one person it would be two or three different people, maybe more, hooked up together to create an amalgamation of there minds, a brand new 'Gestalt Personality', to pilot combat vehicles or ships, with the new personality ceasing to exist when the pilots disconnected and its memories being held by the pilots or in a computer system when it was on its down time, only to be re-uploaded when the pilots came back together.

I then began to wonder what happens when the pilots and the gestalt personality have disagreements with each other, or if the amalgamation of the pilots didn't want to be disconnected...

So, while playing a rousing game of DnD, we came to the end of the week's games with my warlock (who works part time as a surgeon) being contracted by a fighter in our party to, and i quote, "fuck up his body while allowing him to still live because i need him to be there when i kill the bbeg of the operation for stubbornness reasons" I was considering attempting to remove his torso and arms and legs, and just sewing his head to his hands and feet, but i'm unsure of how to keep him alive. is there some way I could have his torso still connected to him but hidden from site or in another plane? also any gruesome medical fuckery suggestions would be appreciated because this is a very specific problem yet it has room to maneuver.

-experience, as compared to Apocalypse World

Think like a stalker. What do they want? What's their fantasy world? Even though they're crazy, they obey the same rules of logic as most people, except that they [believe Beyonce will fall in love with them].

So then have them work towards that goal. They'll probably notice the PCs protecting this person, so it's only reasonable that they'd try to figure out ways to lure the PCs away.

Second, you can have things from the other side. Celebs who don't want the inconvenience of allowing the PCs to protect them properly. "Stay out of the basement" or "don't ever be in the same room as me."

Then find ways to make that complicated, either by having the stalker or a confederate get involved, or by having the ol' 'President's Daughter' routine that all the Disney live-action movies in the early 2000s did, where the VIP actively tries to escape and leave, which eventually opens them up to risks.
