Went to FNM with this bad boy http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/20-08-16-ur-visions/, ended up 3-0-1 (split the final). Beat mono-brown Eldrazi, 4-color Crush and BW control, split with Bant Company.

The maindeck Stormchasers were supposed to be 3 Titis and a Reveler but the guy I was borrowing them from didn't arrive so they went in and boy did they do all the heavy lifting for this fucking deck and I'm considering actually not replacing them with Things. Sideboard isn't fully fledged out yet, but Smash to Smithereens is a real card (Hedron Crawlers and Hedron Archives, get fucked). Curious Homunculus is a bit too vulnerable to Lili to be comfortably maindeckable, but is a very strong replacement for Fiery Impulse against decks that don't run many targets for that spell.

I brewed an R/U "prowess deck" with 2 of bedlam reveler and stormchaser mages being the highlights, can do 20 damage on like turn 4 or 5 with god draw which is beautiful

I call it Prowass, I wish Liliana was seeing less play because watching her drop with my homunculus buddy on the board feels like so bad.
>>
>>49017541
I would run Homunculus mainboard only if I was sure the meta at the event does not contain Lili. It's a strong card but getting 2-for-1 hurts a lot, especially with a dedicated burn deck that lives on 1-for-1 trading.

Oddly specific question, but what is the best deck in standard right now that:
>plays emrakul
>doesn't play red

Is the colorless list worth trying?

Hey /tg/, my friend has recently introduced me to MTG, and I'm in love. But... I have no clue where to start. He just keeps telling me to look up online guides. How did you guys start? What should a babby beginner begin? I sat down and made a mono green deck focusing on getting lands out quickly... is that good? Where do I head from here?

Commander is best and only format worth playing.
>>
>>49017002
I guess the first thing to determine is how competitive you want to be/why you want to play, and how much money you can throw at the game.
It also helps to know if you have a group of buddies who can keep powerlevels at around the same.
No one wants to play against(or be) the dude who brings a top tier legacy deck to casual night.
Commander can be super fun too, but if your group doesn't communicate what they want out of it, it can degenerate into a mess pretty fast.
May I make the suggestion that your group puts together a cube? Cubes are fantastic fun for both powergamers and beer and pretzel people.
Where else can you play show and animate tinker against a mirrrari's wake deck.

Any good spooky RPG experiences?

I don't know if the people i'm with are just assholes that want to ruin a good thing, or that they're actually spooked and try to play it off by making jokes and doing dumb things.

A couple but it was mostly circumstance and not what the system was meant for. Basically a couple not-so-noteworthy things were out of place just enough to strike a nerve, and then something perceived as unexplainable would happen and then everyone has the chills. At least that's the jist of it.

One of those things that if you planned for it to be spooky, it wouldn't come off that way but having practically zero insight to the matter goes a long way to getting to PCs.
>>
>>49016040

I managed to completely creep out two of my characters during a game of Call of Cthulhu. It was their first time playing CoC, so I ran the Haunting because everyone has to play that one shot at least once. Really the party was about as weeb as it could have gotten.

> We had one player who wanted to be a socialite sociopath with a canesword, hailing from a murderous underworld with all sorts of contacts to get video game-esque cool weapons. At one point she asked for a wrist-blade, and I gave it her because frankly I didn't want to bother arguing. It's impact on the game was incredibly minimal.
> Another player wanted to play an Italian Mobster. I was a relatively seasoned player, but this was my first time GM'ing, so I said sure, why not.
> And then we had the other two: A detective on leave from Boston PD, a relatively nice guy and the Call of Cthulhu equivalent of the paladin. He kept me from going nuts.
> And the oddball, it was a guys first time roleplaying and he rolled up this character who was the son of a hunter from some village (In 1920's America), and left for adventure (In 1920's America), taking with him only his name: Stein McJoy (In 1920's America).

You can imagine the shitshow that could happen, yeah? Frankly, it didn't. I put on some good spooky music and we investigated the house after some preliminary investigations in the area. The downstairs area went by relatively easily, Player 1 found Corbitt's Diary and wanted to read the entire thing then and there. I gave her some highlights and said to get anything useful she'd have to spend a few hours on it. She immediately wanted to summon a Dimensional Shambler.

They continued through the house, and I pointed out the crosses and rosary beads in most rooms, until they got to the children's room. At which point I cranked up the music a notch, and one player is repeatedly saying "Fuck you it's children" over and over. He can't stand ghost children, so I just smile and shrug.

you can't make someone feel scared who doesn't want to, evoking an emotional reaction from a story is reliant on the audience engaging with the material and lowering their suspension of disbelief so that they can care about it (if you don't care about anything you can't get scared). If a player doesn't want to be scared then they just disconnect from the story in order to avoid it, and once a player is disconnected from the game they usually start joking around OOC.

Find players who enjoy horror stories or don't play horror games.

Are there any mini wargames that handle armored combat in a way that doesn't suck horribly?

I'm a bit of a tank nerd. If I had my way, I'd actually like to play a more pen-and-paper long-session focused game involving tank combat; I think that could be really cool, but I don't know anyone who shares that feeling, so instead I'm trying to find a wargaming system to play with friends to get that tank fix. The problem is... all of them suck really, really hard.

The most common problem I have is morale rules- say, for instance, one of your tanks gets hit but the damage is only superficial, but now the rules say that you have to make a morale check to actually allow that tank to do anything again, meaning that tank is conceivably (and at times, likely) stuck in a limbo of morale checks and uselessness.

Movement rules in games like Flames of War are also an issue- the way that tanks seem to be very rigidly locked to their platoon, rather than being able to more organically use terrain and maneuver independently of one another. While yes, the platoon is the smallest tactical element of tanks, at the scale most wargames are played at individual tanks should be able to take initiative and move of their own accord.

I'm not super versed in modern wargames, I mostly play battletech(which is alright, but ablative armor only), so I'm hoping I just glanced over something. I'm perfectly willing to homebrew something, but I'm afraid I'll get way too down into the autismal details and make it an unfun game for anyone to play.

You could try battlegroup or rapid fire, or crossfire.

Ostfront is coming out soon too which is a very quick and effective game for tanks - no morale checks for vehicles, just damage, and each vehicle is free to do its own thing. the full rules and all 5 army lists will be released in the next week.
>>
>>49015038
>morale

the problem is that is a thing that happened quite a bit with tanks, at least in WWII.

Hell, there were Jagdtiger crews (the most heavily armored tank of the war) that panicked after being shot at by 75mm shermans. Granted these weren't very well trained soldiers but it's hardly the only instance. Especially tanks known for weak armor or that were prone to fire (or in the russians case exploding)
>>
>>49015788

I'm well aware tanks bailed out a lot, but the way most wargames represent it is awful

A tank crew doesn't just suddenly freeze in fear when they take a hit. If their morale breaks, they bail out of the tank and run for their lines- the tank is now inoperative, and will likely remain that way until the battle is over.

Might work in Dark Sun but with water.
>>
You could go independence day style. Creatures from another plane/planet show up in giant floating crafts and starts sucking up resources. Not out of evil but for the same reasons we cut trees down (destroying all the life that depended on that tree to make a nice table, we need the wood so we take it).

These craft could be manned by drones/golems, having a single artificer who made them to carry out his planet munching needs. He/she/it could be obsessed with logistics, more concerned about meeting quotas even when confronted by a party, confused and slightly annoyed that these lesser creatures are putting him/her/it behind schedule
>>
>>49011934
You could go the easy/Avatar route and say "look at this evil industrialist who is taking over nature, stop the civilization!" which is kind of cliched and preachy as well as overdone,
OR
You could do something else- make the character actually evil instead of just taking things from the ground. He's planning on destroying the planet for its resources- literally collecting enough material to build a doomsday weapon, than cracking the planet Dead Space style and murdering everything on it just to get at some nice, shiny metal at the core to craft another sword out of. Something so ravenously greedy it will kill indiscriminately for what it wants, up to and including the destruction of an entire species. If you really want to go with the "we don't know why", you could always have them steal something REALLY vital, like air or water, knowing full well that they're killing things, and either not caring or actively desiring the organisms to die so they can harvest ores better.

If enough orks beleive that their Warboss can't die, would he not be able to die?
