Do any of you have any experience with any Jack Chick style anti-D&D discrimination? I got into roleplaying games way too late for that stigma to be a thing so I've never really encountered it

Also does anyone have that parody image of all the people playing D&D and one guy is stabbing himself in the hand?

Jehova witness people came by to see my sister and saw me leaving with my box of game stuff.

Yeah, I'd heard stories back in the day. I live in central california which is one of those weird mishmash place where rednecks meet liberals. I had a hippie mom and a metal guitarist dad who were cool with D&D and stuff, but some of my friends had to hide their games from their parents because they were religious types who might freak.
Actually had a teacher come out as a D&D player one time, and specifically address the whole "it's evil and teaches you black magic and makes you kill yourself" stuff in class one afternoon after someone brought it up.

(I believe it was in that same class that we had one girl from the more redneck side of town argue that all prison sentences should be replaced with the death penalty.)

FAQ:
>What the fuck is this?
Somewhat a campaign of crack-infused free-form roleplay in the grim darkness of the far future.

>When do you guys make these threads?
Usually mondays at 4PM GMT, but they sometimes extend to Tuesdays if we got caught in the middle of something when the thread died and it was too late to make another one the same day.

>Can I join in?
Sure, just think of a character and have fun, you can find most info in 1d4chan albeit it's ussually a little bit out of date in comparison to where the threads are.

>Is there any requirement in character creation.
Not really, we've had Xeno infiltrators, Chaos infiltrators, Villains, Heroes, Normal Guardsmen, Crazed Guardsmen, Assassins, Psykers, Space Marines, Inquisitors, Squats... just think whathever and join the fun.

>Is it allowed to have more than a single character?
Yes as long as you don't use it to powerplay.

>So how you guys do the playan'?
We tend to use spoilers for OOC chat, but nothing is set in stone.
We tend to use greentexts for describing a character's actions, but again nothing is set in stone.
Use d20s for combat checks and d100s for other things you want to roll, higher Is better.
It's important to know that the regiment is now in the employ of a radical Ordo Xenos Inquisitor, with influence from an Ordo Malleus Inquisitor and under the watch of an Ordo Hereticus Inquisitor. Yes we've been through a lot of shit.

>Ron sits uncomfortably in his fancy clothes. He barely had enough time to send his confirmation to Alan, and the fact that he was suddenly being recalled to Praetoria wasn't a pleasant one

Okay, so what's honestly the difference between a Paladin and a Cleric?

And I don't wanna hear "one is a spellcaster who can fight and the other is a fighter that can cast spells", or "different spell lists" or "one uses a divine focus for spellcasting", that's horseshit. Those are arbitrary mechanical differences. Like saying that the difference between an Elf from the West side of the forest and an Elf from the East wear different gang colours.

I mean ideologically, or in terms of their role in the group or story. An in-universe explanation.

What are their differences and similarities?

They both just seem like "I believe in something larger than myself, very strongly, and as long as I stick to those beliefs and live my life by that code, it gives me powers".

Am I wrong?

It doesn't help that they both tend towards Lawful Good, and (in modern sensibilities) wear fucking huge armor.

Solve this riddle for me, /tg/.

I'm talking about mainstream Dungeons and Dragons 5e for the sake of argument.

>Those are arbitrary mechanical differences.
Mechanical differences aren't arbitrary at all.
>>
>>49071375

Cleric focuses more on spreading his religion and the words of his god.

While Paladin is a selected champion of the god. He acts more like a divine police force taking his orders directly from the god.

Think about the difference between priests and inquisitors.
>>
>>49071416
They are though, because they are differences, but they don't tell you WHY they're different.

It's like if the Sorcerer/Wizard thing began and end at the Wizard having to prepare spells in advance. But at least there, they give like a reason that these two different things exist and are considered separate.

Like if you have two types of thief, and they can do everything the other can do, and look the same, and often have the same motivations, BUT they're called different things, one tends to pick pockets, and the other likes to rob houses instead, do we really need both?

>>49071456
Right, but why can't they just be the same thing? The priest in this case has fighting capabilities as well. It's like they took one class and split it into two separate classes instead of two parts to the same whole, or having one be an alternate, or having them be subclasses of the same thing

im really enjoying Dark Sun's Prism Pentad, and that's all that the local bookstore has for me, besides some of Gary Gygax's really old Greyhawk novels.

There are over 150 forgotten realms novels, though.

So....what are the good novels of TFR? Are there any? I read the first drizzt novel where he escapes his homeland...it fucking sucked...

The Drizzt series by R.A Salvatore is pretty middle of the road when it comes to Forgotten Realms novels. To be honest most of them suck. His newer stuff is a lot better, try reading his Neverwinter series.

The War for Rohan was terrible and terrifying. Much blood was spilled, both mortal and eternal. The Elves were beset on three sides by the Rohirrim, the Men of Gondor, and the Dol Amrothi. When all seemed lost and the Mortal Men were pushing deep into the Forest Realm, help uncalled for came from the Hobbits. As terrifying as they were small, the Low Warriors shattered the alliance by removing the Dol Amrothi from the alliance and bleeding the Rohirrim dry. Not to be bested by another short race, the Thorinlings marched south with surprising haste for their stout stature, the mountain dwarves attacked the Gondorians in Mordor.

The new year. The World Tournament is not too far off now. And with a visit from Raditz, well...

"Vegeta's easily a match for me now." the long-haired Saiyan states grimly. "And it doesn't look like his growth is slowing down. We're still about half your strength, Kakarot, but it wouldn't surprise me if he gets to your level by the end of this year. Maybe sooner."

Goku lets out a soft whistle. "Well, have to give him something, those are some good results."

Your daughter has a clearly determined look on her face as she listens to Raditz, then looks to you with a slight, protective tinge of worry. You ruffle her hair softly as Gohan sits by his uncle curiously. Raditz looks to you and continues, "I can tell that you're doing well with your own training, Maple. But do you think you'll be able to face him when the time comes?"

Also check this list. Most primate species live about 20 years, maybe 30.

http://pin.primate.wisc.edu/aboutp/phys/lifespan.html

Compared to them humans are weird super ancient creatures. We typically live to about 80, about four times as long as they live. Four times longer than us would be about 320. That's about how old we'd feel to them.
>>
>>49066855
>Jogging Endurance
Literally every bipedal of the Genus Homo had this.
>Ranged Skill
Ours is basically dogshit, as it requires weeks/months of practice to implement to effectiveness.
>Hairless and Skinny
3rd verse, same as the 1st.
>Weak and easily damaged
Are you high? Everyone was easily damaged, and in that regard weak; yes, Neanderthals had a, at the time, decent capacity to operate while injured, but basically every animal can do that sorta shit for a while.
>Obsessed with Art/Culture
In all likelihood, so was every other intelligent, Sapient, species.
>Breeds Slowly and had a low population density.
No, stupid. Actually, we had/have a pretty decent breeding rate, and our so-called 'low population' was because we were at, or close to, 'optimal density' for our species at the time.

>No /tg/, you are the Savannah elf.
No, OP, it is you who is the faggot; we're the Savannah human, because we literally don't fit into ANY categorization like that so neatly.
>>
>>49067094
>Literally every bipedal of the Genus Homo had this.
We've got the best endurance of any genus homo species, hands down. We could literally run circles around Neanderthals and Hobbits. The only ones that might have matched us were our direct ancestors. We outdo all of our cousin species.

>Ours is basically dogshit, as it requires weeks/months of practice to implement to effectiveness.
With our long lifespan that's not much of an issue, but it's important to remember that we've got shoulders that allow us to easily throw stones. While other primates can throw they have massive issues aiming. We're naturally awesome at ranged combat. Most of our cousins had huge issues with it and couldn't have used, say, and atlatl, one of our earliest ranged weapons.

>3rd verse, same as the 1st.
We're easily one of the weakest primate species out there. Primates are strong as fuck, man. And our hairlessness is also unusual, a product of developing on the Savannah and using persistence hunting to jog prey to death. We deal with endurance under the sun better than basically any other primate.

>Are you high? Everyone was easily damaged, and in that regard weak; yes, Neanderthals had a, at the time, decent capacity to operate while injured, but basically every animal can do that sorta shit for a while.

We're not physically strong, and while every species can deal with damage for a while most of our cousins were better at it than we are. It's a relative measure.

>In all likelihood, so was every other intelligent, Sapient, species.
Neanderthals weren't nearly as obsessed as we are, and no other humanoid species that displayed things like burial really went as far as we did at the time with the decoration.

>No, OP, it is you who is the faggot; we're the Savannah human, because we literally don't fit into ANY categorization like that so neatly.

Relative to our cousins, we do. We don't exist in a vacuum and can be compared to our cousin species.

>>Information

This quest, as the title suggests, takes place in the world of Dragon Ball. You're playing as a twenty-two year old man named Tofoo, and will adventure through the story of the Dragonball series alongside characters such as Goku, Yamcha, Bulma, Tien, and many others. Through your actions, you can make significant changes to the story, and perhaps even become the strongest fighter on Earth.

>Rules

At the end of each update you'll have ten minutes to vote on options. Write-ins are allowed, but I do reserve the right to veto them.

In the event of a draw, the option to receive the next vote wins

Rolls will be used on certain occasions, such as attempting a technique for the first time or attempting something extremely difficult. You will have three rolls, and if one succeeds, you succeed. There are no crits.

Rolls are made AFTER an option wins, not during the voting process

I hope everyone has fun.

When you finally come to, you're no longer lying in the snow out on the freezing mountains. But, as you pick yourself up and survey your surroundings, you realize that may not be much of an improvement.

You're in a round, empty room, with a large door on the other side your only apparent means of exit. A large monitor hangs from the ceiling, and as you pick yourself off the cold ground, it comes alive with the image of an elderly, balding man wearing a smile that seems to take smug to a whole new level.

For some reason, he seems vaguely familiar, though you can't seem to remember where you might have seen him before.

"Hello there, Tofoo," he greets in a borderline-mocking tone. "Thank you so much for joining us."
