The fey were originally bio-mechanical life forms designed to aid in the terraforming of selected planets. A control hub known as a ROOT tree would be planted in which case it would spread itself out over a given area with ROOT terminal trees linked via a mass undergroun network.
However, those systems left on worlds without guidance from humans would begin to show signs of divergence following their original protocol to influence and facilitate the growth and spread of flora and fauna by way of bio-mechanical drones known as Fairies.
In some rare instances the ROOT tree and the drones will obtain limited sapience and sentience. It has also been observed that humans who are unware of the nature and purpose of the ROOT tree could also be partially assimilated by it in which case they would be given limited adminstrative control of various flora and fauna under the ROOT tree control often forming religious cults based around it.

A new type of mathmatics was discovered that allowed thoughts to be translated into a physical force that can affect objects.
However, to utilize this requires extensive surgical procedure to augment the brain as well as years of education to fully utilize.
Many scholars and scientist who've undergone this procedure have otherwise been given the derogetory term of "wizard"
Ok, question for fellow gaming friends.
Have you ever encountered a social justice warlord at your LGS? recently one of the clerks at the one in my town sperged out about anti sjw and anti blm stuff and the response online was people trying to get folks to virtue signal and boycott the one games and comics store in town.
Anyone have any experiences like this at their gaming haunts?
>>48981037
Eh, I don't blame them honestly, staff shouldn't be pressing one side or the other on politics, they're there to sell games.
>>48981051
oh also inb4 200 alt-right garbage replies about hanging sjws
>>48981037
Opposite problem. Autists of every age wandering in and bellowing about Crooked Hillary and MAGA. They're in the minority of course, but they're the mostly likely to make a scene. The alt-leftys on the other hand tend to keep to themselves, unless you specifically try and talk to them about politics, in which case they go pretty hard. So I guess a mixed bag all in all.
>be DM

>player rolls a nat 20
what do you say?
>>48980569
shit I meant a nat 20 on a spot
That player spots them?
If the ambush was too difficult for them to spot even by rolling a 20, I wouldn't have made them roll.

person who rolls nat 20 automatically at top of initiative sheet

Let him get attacks of opportunity even though he'd usually be flat footed in an ambush situation
What are your thoughts on the Spelljammer setting? I'm thinking of integrating parts of it into a campaign I'm running currently.
It's cool, I just wish it could settle on a tone a little better.
It gets pretty goofy sometimes.

Yo.
That's fucking awesome.
Hear ye, hear ye, I call to order another meeting of the Mage Guild.
On the agenda for today: turn to the Guild Charter, page 357, subpage 19, paragraph 4, subparagraph 32. I quote: "All Members of the Guild of Arcanery shall at All Times Official carry either a Staff of a length between Four and Seven feet or a Dagger of less than One foot. All other Weapons are either of a vulgar Warrior mentality or unbefitting of a Mage." Now, this was written in the days before we allowed those newfangled multiclass people into the guild. You all know my position on why they're barely better than fighters and should be excised like the unintelligent blight they are, but since we have to live with them, they're demanding we rewrite the rules to allow any weapons. Opinions?
>>48980385
There are dozens of rules that need to be updated or dumped and you know it.
>>48980385
You can't just start up these thread on your own, friendo. We have a steam group. Join it if you want to keep up to date with the Mage's Guild.
>>48980385
Archwizard Antruthius, Mage of the Ninth Order, my opinions are as well known as always. Such blades as theirs are more versatile than our weaponry. Surely, it would be a shame to have such a great font of knowledge as a wizard be lost because of some petty restrictions.
Why do you guys like Nyarlathotep so much?
>>48980342
Because he's cool.

I'm playing D&D for the first time, and we're doing 3.5e starting at level 7. I have a character from an old freeform RP that I played in a while ago that I want to use. Since the DM doesn't want homebrew classes, I had to choose between being a wizard who uses necromancy or the Dread Necromancer. I've chosen the latter because it's better for fluff reasons and I like its progression, though my character wouldn't want to move on to becoming a Lich
Can my fellow fa/tg/uys help me get set up?
General Necro thread too I guess
No one? No advice for me?
>>48980027
/tg/ is pretty slow, my main man. Just chillerino all around and play the waiting game. Or do something else. It's up to you, y'know?
>>48979842
just follow the directions for creating a character, and pick options that sound cool
you don't really need to worry about being underpowered as a caster in 3.5, you'll be useful no matter what options you pick
I recently saw the trailer for Agony. And now I want to run a table top game based on the idea of players becoming denizens of hell, trying to stay sane, avoiding torment, and seeking a way out.
So I have a few questions:
1. I am experienced in playing 3.5/pathfinder, 5th edition, and both world of darkness and Chronicles of darkness. Which would fit best in your opinion my theme for the campaign?
2. I’ve DM’ed in the past, but none of my games last long. Either my players or myself lose interest, or life gets in the way. What can I do to keep interest and momentum going in my games?
3. What are some plot ideas I could start with? I like the idea of keeping the game biblical and occult themed, whilst also making it H. R. Giger’s wet dream.
Bump?
Agony doesn't seem to be a combat oriented game so probably don't use 3.pathfinder or 5th edition. I haven't played either of the Darkness ones but Call of Cthulhu might be a suitable one since it has a very lethal combat system. You could easily tweek the book for your setting and it does have neat sanity meter that you could use. The book has you covered on the occult part too.

Never played CoC, but I always wanted to learn. Is it easy to learn? Which edition do I use?
Do you ever hear a certain song that makes you reminisce about a fantasy world you know isn't real, and when you snap out of it you feel a slight emptiness because you know that no matter how hard you try you'll never be able to achieve that feeling ever again, apart from its passing?
.....haha me neither that'd be weird
>>48978853
Nope. But I'm an introvert with years of drama training and performance behind me, living in fantastical head worlds and exploring emotional states is kind of my job.
Just don't grasp for it, man. The harder you try to cling to a feeling the faster it'll skitter away. You have to just soak in it and let it pass, knowing that someday you WILL feel it again.
I find that scents can take me back to a memory or fantasy real fast. The scent of pines puts me back in Scouts and the make believe worlds we used to play in, the smell of loam and earth after a rain makes me imagine dark, primeval woods, heck someone smoking a Camel makes me think of Westerns on an old tube TV (thanks grandpa).
It doesn't have to be something that specific or hard to come by either. When I'm stuck in someplace shitty like LA that smells like hot garbage and desperate fear piss I cook something I relate to a specific memory or book. If you want to get hippy dippy with it, try putting a couple drops of an essential oil in some hot water, sit in a dimmed room, put on some of those 'certain songs', breath deep, and see where it takes you. If you want to get REALLY hippy dippy, smoke a jay first (imbibe responsibly).
But above all else, watch what you eat. You're a chemical being and overdoing sugar, caffeine, and the crazy fats you find in a lot of stuff nowadays can make holding on to the moment and recreating feelings really hard. I was a sugar/caffeine junkie pretty hardcore while I was doing work on stage, and it got to the point where it hurt my work. I just couldn't get to the emotional and mental place I needed to anymore.
TL;DR
No feeling is gone forever, duder, and feeding/wallowing in feelings of emptiness or existential angst is only useful as an occasional palate cleanser. You're a human, man. Enjoy the whole spectrum and realize that fantasy is a mindset, not a place. Peace, love, and all that jazz.

I keep my dice collection in this leatherette CD box I bought from a Staples store about ten years ago. I love the box, but worry about carrying it to a gming session and tripping and falling over, spilling my precious dice all over! My solution so far is to walk very carefully and keep vboth hands on the case.
Where do you keep your dice, /tg/?
>>48978166
In a crown Royal bag.
Or in my pockets.
It's not like I'm playing a game that requires 300 dice for no reason.
Unless I'm playing Orks, and I bring a bucket filled with dice to intimidate the other players.
The dice up top are some I really like: A d20 my older brother, 17 years my senior, for some reason let me chew on when I was a toddler (and yeah, it's older than me.) the big d6 is from Dark Castle Collectibles, who went belly-up last week. The blue d6 is from my local comic shop, Carolina Comics. The tan d6 was a gift from my little sister. It has the face of Jake the Dog on the 1 face.

Here, have a picture of my favorite dice containers.

Planescape.
>"The Mirari was an artifact of unspeakable power that appeared on Otaria roughly a century after the Phyrexian Invasion. The word “mirari” was an ancient word for a fantastic wish-granting artifact and the Mirari certainly matched that description, tapping into its wielder's desires and making them real."
>"After Memnarch's defeat, Karn returned to his plane and melted down Memnarch to his core, revealing the Mirari underneath. It was then left in Argentum in the care of Glissa, Slobad and Geth."
>The Phyrexians have The Mirari
This is gonna end terribly, isn't it?
No, because Wizards has likely forgotten it already.
>>48977024
Eh, you forgot to mention it the whole downside being pretty much fuckery of all sorts, and that Karn created it as a probe. Maybe they could use it, maybe it just causes infighting among the factions even more.
>>48977024
I always assumed that the Mirari was an lone relic of the true Phyrexia, which was only unspeakably powerful in comparison to the post-devestation backwater that was the Odessy block. I also assumed it was the source of the oil in New Phyrexia, thus giving them even a hint of a claim to the name Phyrexia.... because the oil came from a relic of the original Phyrexia.
Was I wrong. I honestly stoped following the plot after invasion block.
Hey, I started playing around two weeks ago. I've built a black/white deck and I really like these colors. I've checked out the others, and I really enjoy these could anyone offer any tips for building a black/white deck, creature suggestions or strategy? I'm trying to keep my deck standard and I'd like to play at my local game shop eventually.
Which leads to my second question, are people friendly and welcoming? I'm new to this city and know nobody here, but I would like to play at the Friday night magic event or something similar. Thanks lads
>are people friendly and welcoming
Mileage may vary. Most of the people I've met through Magic were pretty chill in all. Definitely on the tryhard side but not full on assholes.
I would recommend going online and seeing what B/W decks they have for standard. Magic is a really fun game but it's also pretty obtuse to get your head around especially if you want to play competitively at FNM.
Also don't be afraid to buy singles, you'll save way more money.
If you want to find a reason to use all your cards look into / ask about people about playing Cube of Pauper magic.
BW Control is a bit pricy, but amazing. I run a BW Ally Control that is decent enough all around but since it's a bit unusual it's difficult to board against.

>>48977576
Thanks for your advice so far, I like the look of that deck, I'll probably combine the advice and buy some singles to bulk out my deck. Here it is so far, if anyone could give some tips about what I need or recommend other B/W decks for me to look at i'd really appreciate it.
I built this, so far, entirely out of booster packs but its the best I could make and took me a long time.

Handful of players, may not play all the time but as and when you can. There will be an overarching plot to the games, like a civl war breaking out in to the hive to an invasion of Chaos-Aligned forces.
There will also be roleplay, with your gang leader as your main PC.
