Would it make sense for a magical staff to overheat from being used too much?

Don't you think it would make more sense to add a heat shield to it?
28 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
Depends on how magic works.

I mean, does magic produce thermal energy?

And if it does, couldn't you just counter it with cold magic?
>>
Sure, but why did you post a picture of a shoulder thing that goes up?
>>
>>49963170
>does magic produce thermal energy
If it does, then it would make sense that you would produce more heat than you could take away with a cold spell.

There's your problem.
>>
This is semi related to OP

Share some of your wisdom on this, /tg/.

Is it better to have an autistic control freak, or to have pure anarchic ass pulling in your Freeform RPGs?

A site where like OP, the world is controlled by an autistic man child, or would you prefer a world without authority, and everyone and anyone can just do fuck all?

I'm completely unaware of what these Freeform things are. What is the lesser of two evils?

There's a new formation that makes them less awful.

Really if you're playing Chaos you're getting assfucked either way so just use the models you like.

Play 30k and run them as Gal Vorbak. Then they might actually be playable.

They're melee infantry in a ruleset that heavily punishes melee units. They lack good ways to get into melee, and their output can be fairly mediocre once they get there.

Any anon's familiar here with The Malazan Book of the Fallen series by Steven Erikson?

I've been reading through it and it's one of those settings that seems perfect to use for tabletop. Problem is i'm not sure exactly what system would work best with it. So I come to you for recommendations, tips, tricks, and ideas.

I've done some basic research and it seems Erikson himself used AD&D and GURPS for it. Whatever the system it would need to be able to handle "lower level" gritter combat and "high level" powerful gods running around manipulating reality. Which definitely sounds like something GURPS could handle but i'm not sure of it with just that.

Check the wiki to make sure but I'm fairly certain that the world was originally created as a tabletop game. The books came later as a product of his world/character building
>>
>>49962378
I'll be honest, I've only read the first two. I really like the first, but the second had some problems for me. Notably the chick that became the desert oracle lady. She made me want to put the book down every time I had to read a section from her viewpoint.

I do remember hearing that it started out as a D&D game, but I never heard which edition he used.

So I'm trying to come up with a homebrew class for my homebrewed ruleset, Pathfinder based.

The basic concept is pretty much a Digidestined/Digimon combo. I feel like there's potential here for a neat class, so I'm trying to come up with ways to make it work and be fun and interesting while being different enough from the Summoner to still be worth picking. On the upside, Summoners have also been homebrewed to be able to have multiple eidolons (limit to one active of course) along with a lot of other changes to make them feel, at least to me, far more "summoner-ish", so this new class gets the one special creature schtick.

The lore behind the class will have the character form a bond with a special type of creature, which he starts out with at level one. Contemplating having a "digivice" type item that the character focuses his magic through to empower the creature and have it temporarily evolve.

So far what I have is the creature has different stages, just like in Digimon, and it has a "normal" stage that it normally in. It can "evolve" to higher up stages but reverts back to this normal stage. If it is killed, it reverts to an egg form or something else, then evolves to a baby-like stage and will take a short amount of time to revert to its normal stage.

Some of my thoughts are, how should I determine how and when it can evolve? A point system where the character has a few points per day and can spend one to evolve the creature? Creature has a certain number of evolutions per day? Stamina system for evolving?

How does the player end up with this creature? A random roll from a list of pre-made creatures (each one having its own evolutions)? Player can design this creature entirely, sort of like an eidolon?

What does the character do during combat? Fight along side the creature? Channel magic into it? Stand back out of danger while maintaining the evolution?

Mind helping me out here, /tg/?

2x To the Slaughter
2x Blossoming Defense
1x Fleetwheel Cruiser

1x Skysovereign, Consul Flagship
2x Unlicensed Disintegration

As of now the sb and flagship in the main aren't 100%

>Basic Idea
Be able to have an edge and easily overtake R/W Vehicles in the "mirror".
Has huge advantage against all the control decks popping up in my meta, >grixis
>Tower
>te/merge

Synergies with scrounger and vehicles is more than enough to get there and stay there.

>Key to the City
Severely under-rated card and a huge player in the top deck wars.

>Bomat Courier
Consistently is getting me value (sometimes obsurd value with 2 in play)

Katanas should be designed as all-or-nothing weapons. They must be used in both hands and could have high damage, but using them should make you more vulnerable to get hit in return. That's what they were made for and how they were used.

What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you little bitch? I’ll have you know I graduated top of my batch in the Chuunin Exams, and I’ve been involved in numerous secret raids on the Akatsuki, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in stealth warfare and I’m the top Kekkei Genkai user in the Hidden Leaf. You are nothing to me but just another genin. I will wipe you the fuck out with ninjutsu the likes of which has never been seen before in the Ninja World, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over ninja scrolls? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of ANBU agents across the Fire Country and your chakra is being traced right now so you better prepare for the Raikiri, maggot. The storm jutsu that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your Ninja Way. You’re fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you with over one thousand techniques, and that’s without use of Sharingan. Not only am I extensively trained in taijutsu, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the Seventh Hokage and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the Ninja World, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little “clever” comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit Fire Release all over you and you will burn in it. You’re fucking dead, kiddo.

Make a standard medieval fantasy setting set during an analogue for WWI?
28 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>49959849
>medieval
>WW1

Well to get that shit to gel you'll need:

- some kind of artifice, like magical devices or monsters, that work the same way as artillery, machine guns, explosives, gas, barbed wire, large warships, aircraft, primitive tanks, sound-ranging devices, telephones and telegraph, etc

- large, populous states that can muster millions of men and keep them supplied

- this all needs to be recently-developed in-universe so that most of it is new to the generals on all sides

Or you could just do a lazy parody where there are two massive lines of castles along a border, each castle basically beseiging the one opposite, with siegeworks connecting them all up like trenches, and hurr durr generals just hurling troops back and forth across the no-man's-land and into the breaches.
>>
>>49959849
Direct analogue is not possible due to the technological requirements for WW1.
It's a war that could have only occurred within a decade or so either side of when it did.

However, it would be possible to take other major aspects from it. Stalemate wars that take ages and massively devastate wide areas of land? 30 years war would be a good one. Though the battles were brief, the armies were basically mobile apocalypses for whoever's land they moved through, being larger than the populations of most big cities of time. Ok, it's pike&shot era rather than medieval but there's commonality to be found in the need for industry to rapidly expand and arm much larger forces than found at the start. So that can be a thing.

Constant innovation on every front to try and get an advantage whilst simultaneously having to deal with problems of rapidly expanding forces meaning calling up old officers and the like who are massively under-prepared/educated on the new things/tactics they're to use and face. That's easy enough. Imaging some old Dwarf militia guy who has only ever had to lead small, local forces against goblin raiding parties suddenly having to deal with managing an entire regiment fighting massed, organised Orc cavalry forces that don't just flee after a few casualties, because he still technically holds a rank high enough and there's no-one younger available.

Innovation can come in many forms, not all immediately good. Throw in some Leonardo da Vinci types on all sides trying to come up with new devices and methods that are poorly implemented by under-trained and poorly supplied armies.

So a friend of mine and I are going to be running a dwarf-centric campaign at some point in the not-too distant future. Since we've got at least one campaign between then and now, we're staying to lay some groundwork so that when we're up to bat we've got a world fleshed out.

Now we're planning on using Forgotten Realms so that we can save some time on the campaign setting and focus on the NPCs and the dwarf clan itself: the Bronzefists.

The campaign itself is going to be fairly straight forward: dwarves are sent on an expedition to find the ancient Halls of Gundabar (I know). They're going to start in the Misty Vale, since our current campaign is the Red Hand of Doom and we want to nod to that (Hammerfist Holds dwarves).

The campaign will have three main acts: figure out the location of the Halls of Gundabar (which will be between Vassa and Damara), trek across Faerun to get to said dwarven halls, and then explore and clear out the Halls of Gundabar.

My main questions are, elegan/tg/entlmen and ca/tg/irls, are how can we make the Bronzefists the best clan there ever was or will be (a.k.a., what are you favorite dwarf -for lack of better word- tropes?) and what sort of fun dwarf-centric side-quests can we throw into the campaign?

Also dwarf art welcome.

Every time there’s a made/played/saw thread, I post the same image and go on and on about storytiming the campaign because it was amazing to be a part of. Today, I’d like to start telling the story of Shadows of the North. It’s both an amazing campaign and an example of how NOT to do a Warhammer Fantasy RP 2e campaign. I say not because it’s far more nobledark than grimdark. This campaign took a little under a year of playing constantly, sometimes twice a week. After the preface, I’m going to type this in a pretty writefaggy way because I need to practice writing anyway. Bear with me and call me a fag if it takes away from the story. So, let’s start with the cast of PCs.

>Ser Landry
The man in the made, played, saw picture. He’s a man of many faults. He is from Carcassone, the southernmost duchy of Bretonnia. While every nobleman of Bretonnia is a knight, Carcassoners are warriors first and foremost. Their close proximity with two countries known for treachery, the skavenblight, and innumerable greenskin tribes living in the mountain range to the south of the country has shaped them into hard people. I’ll leave much of his backstory to be discovered through the story. If it seems like the story focuses on him a lot, that’s because he was one of only two characters to show up to every session.

>Minervina
Minervina made a habit of shocking her family. Despite being the heiress to one of Estalia’s many kingdoms, she insisted on being cloistered with the illustrious order of the fury. Whatever trace of her girlish upbringing she had was soon erased by the grueling training her order imposed on her. Her order was the right hand of the church, as the Fury had been Myrmidia’s spear arm in ages past when the goddess walked the earth. She found herself in the Empire after the Storm of Chaos helping with the fallout from the war. Despite Archaon being defeated, she knew there were battles that still needed to be won.

>Gerhardt von Lutz
The straight man of the party, and of comparatively humble and simple origins compared to the rest of the party. Gerhardt’s father had served with honor in the imperial military right up to the day he was killed in battle. To honor his heroism, his father’s commanding officer sponsored Gerhardt’s entry into the Imperial Military Academy in Altdorf. He was spared fighting in the storm due to his training being incomplete. Gerhardt ended up getting the short end of the stick. With Archaon’s defeat, the Imperial military had little need of his service. He graduated without a commission and no way to make money. Landry met him and, after buying the lad several drinks, convinced him that starting a mercenary band with him would be the quickest and easiest way to win them both some glory.

>Gehrov Zedlin
Gehrov and Landry actually met one another briefly. Gehrov, or Dr. Zedlin as he sometimes preferred despite not having a physician’s license, was one hell of a barber-surgeon. He spoke little of his past and preferred to let his skillset speak for itself. He was both an excellent doctor and spy.

Other PCs join briefly, others come and go. We get a 5th PC at the eleventh hour of the campaign but we’ll get to him when we get to him. Some events are omitted or changed to make the story flow, but I assure (you), this really happened.

Chapter 1: Fear and Loathing in Altdorf
“Money for a veteran, sir?” A man in rags, body coated in dirt asked to the two men who were the latest to enter Altdorf’s western gate. They were a peculiar pair. One looked to be somewhere in his late twenties. He was handsome, with a strong jaw, green eyes, and blonde hair. What the beggar noticed the most was the sword at his side. It had gold on the handle. Real gold. The other man was shorter, noticeably younger, and rounder of face. He looked like a local, truth be told, and the only things that stood out on his person were the rapier at his side and the generic tabard of the Reik on his chest.

Both ignored him. The trained eyes of the swordsman scanned the crowd ahead of them. Mostly they were travelers like himself and the boy beside him. Some of them, though, looked important. “Nobles, flocking into Altdorf at this hour?” He asked the younger man.

“They’re coming at all hours these days, Landry. Everyone has a petition for the Emperor now that they’re sure they won’t die in the next month.” The younger man’s voice was surprisingly deep. It lacked the practiced nonchalance of the older man.

“Peace breeds peculiar opportunities, right pup?”

“Right. We need to keep our eyes open for one of these opportunities. Our seed money won’t go very far otherwise.”

They headed further into the city. For a moment, the swordsman, Landry, glanced back at the beggar and his companions. As his mouth opened to say something, he was cut off by a nearby crier.

“Do you have what it takes to battle the Grand Champion before the eyes of Karl Franz himself? Do any of you with your swords, axes, bows, whatever you wage war with, think you can defeat the fists of a crazed northern giant? Could you defeat every dog of war beside you, clamoring in the kennel for that same chance?”
>>
All things told, it was an acceptable performance from a crier. It certainly caught Landry and Gerhardt’s attention. They moved closer, looking up at home. An elbow pressed into Landry’s armored side.

“What business does Wissenland have holding a tournament in Altdorf?” Gerhardt asked. His eyes had found a sigil of the Reik’s southern neighbor, half hidden under the scarlet cloak of the crier. “Seems like there’s more politics in this tournament than it’s worth.”

“But an opportunity to take on some grand champion is far too appealing to pass up.” Landry grinned at Gerhardt. The young cadet had seen that expression on his face before. Simply put, it meant there would be no arguing with him.

Still didn’t stop Gerhardt from trying. “Do you want glory so badly that you’d die for it? From all the stories you’ve told me of your journeys through the empire, your duke would surely grant you some title.”

“I’m not after a title.” Landry replied, already starting to walk off towards the fields that apparently served as the qualifier. “I simply wish to see the skill of this champion firsthand.”
Gerhardt grunted and followed Landry.
