Funny you should have used a Skyrim pic anon, given my character:
>Valerius Aetius, Imperial (the race) Battlemage in a UESRPG campaign set in the 4th era
Valerius is a veteran of the great war, but he left the legion after the white-gold concordat. He's a proficient swordsman and destructionist, but he'd rather use his magical prowess in more subtle ways (through enchantment, alteration and mysticism, he's not subtle enough for illusion), as mages aren't very respected in most of Tamriel anymore. He makes a living as a merc for whoever pays best, but he'll always give priority to pro empire jobs. He's currently employed by a less battle inclined Synod mage (the dmpc) studying Dwemer ruins in the Velothi mountains together with a few other bodyguards.

I have two 4e PC's, will post them in separate posts.
One is mechanically a shardmind wizard, but fluffwise nothing along the lines.
A robot created by a devil-associating insane scientist, called Hellwalker due to the creator's shit taste. The robot got a vast array of gadgets all over the body (that's what the spells were refluffed into), many of which are enchanted with infernal energies.
Nonetheless, Hellwalker ended up being lazy, disdainful, and noncaring for all this hell or evil bs, perpetually angering the creator until they eventually parted ways.
Then Hellwalker just wandered the world in search of interesting things to do.
I'm a shadowrunner, but I'm actually an undercover cop sent to spy on the PCs and gather information on their fixer to take them all down. I haven't let anyone in on the secret (not even the GM) but I'm going to spring it on everyone next week after we finish this run and it's going to be an amazing payoff to almost six months of foreshadowing.
Magic. Should it be banned and those able to use it be sterilized and locked away for their own good, or just heavily regulated so that innocent bystanders won't be hurt by it?
I mean I'm no mage-hater. In fact some of my best friends are spellcasters, I'm just saying that 9 out of 10 times something bad happens, there's a wizard or a warlock around. That's not a coincidence, it's just statistic fact, people.
>>50013322
I'm not sure which logical fallacy you're using right now, but it's essentially a cop out. Here:
>I don't hate automobiles.
>In fact, some of my best methods of travel involve automobiles
>I'm just saying that 9 out of 10 times someone dies in a car accident, there's a person behind the wheel.
>That's not a coincidence, it's just statistic fact, people.
Cars are not inherently evil nor can magic loosely by applied in this manner. If you compare it rather to a tool or a fuel or perhaps a drug in the real world, the only times they end up being banned is after a few years of people realizing it makes the people using it get really really sick and die. Asbestos took a few years but is now banned from use in building houses almost universally. Athletes can use supplements all they like but anabolic steroids are banned mostly because they fuck up your body (though in competitions they are blacklisted because they are considered bad faith sport).
Same argument as always. Do spoons make people fat? Do guns kill people? Does alcohol make drivers kill other people? No. No, and no. People are the ultimate cause of people getting fat, people being murdered, and people killing people with cars, respectively.
Interesting side note. Once read a story idea where the use of magic brought about horrible other-wordly mutations within the user and all magic was carefully and only in emergencies utilized. Sounded like a pretty cool concept for a narrative.

Nice wizard apologism.
Can someone explain the Nahiri VS Sorin conflict to me with the assumption that I have little to no knowledge of MTG lore (besides basic shit like planeswalkers and what they can do)?
>>50009828
Sorin dicked Nahiri over
Nahiri returned the favor
This makes vampfags mad because HOW CAN OUR GLORIOUS VAMPIRE LOSE?
>>50009833
Bitch couldn't even take 5 minutes to check up on Zendikar to see that it was still there after the Jactice league Maximized Fireball'd two of the Eldrazi gods and decides Innistrad as a whole needs to suffer.
If she kept her fight strickly between her and Sorin I would be more empathetic.
>>50009859
Also Sorin is now frozen in carbonite because wizards doesn't want two black walkers, and they can't get rid of Lili without the sjws complaining.
>Yeah my setting is kinda like game of thrones
>in this setting elves are
I home-brewed a setting. It was essentially a blend of the Elder Scrolls and 40K. Was glorious.
>Fantasy setting
>Aside from fantastical elements, things behave consistently with the real world
>Nonsensical thing happens, inconsistent with established rules
>it's FANTASY anon it doesn't have to have to be realistic"
This is the worst shit.
>>50005100
>>Aside from fantastical elements, things behave consistently with the real world
Nice tautology, fag.
>>50005100
>This is the worst shit.
Yes it is. Good luck finding anyone in this hobby who agrees.
>>50005100
>"Why is that desert right next to lush forest?"
>"A magical disaster a thousand years ago"
Oh.
So, I'm putting together a custom system, and while I'm early in development, I was wondering:
What are some of your specific favorite game mechanics, what makes them good, and what game are they in?
I'll throw one out there, just to get the thread started.
>Shadowrun 4 Contact/Ally/Group Ally mechanics.
I like that there's a concrete way to measure the power of friends and groups, as well as what they are willing or able to do for you, and the ability to use that mechanic to get information or help, fairly quickly and easily.
I like classless skill based systems like Shadowrun has. It allows for greater customization of characters without the straitjacket of classes. It makes every character feel unique.
>>49995931
Put in some way to limit magic, so you don't get the DnD problem of Magic being able to solve everything, replace virtually every skill in the game, and generally make non-magic characters completely worthless past the first few levels.
This is currently my biggest problem with DnD as a whole. No single class should have access to every school of at once. Hell, no class should have access to more than one or two schools of magic at the same time, except for maybe the minor cantrip spells.
The physical and mental energy resource system in Numenera. Makes me wish I had thought of it. You'll have to look it up, if you don't know it

Did someone say "blow it all up?"Obligatory Elite Dangerous Jump when?
What song plays when you grow weary of life?
Is obtaining Sage of Six Paths Mode and Truth-Seeking Balls from MC-Kun worth it? It seems like you'd have to veer dangerously close to the fail condition for some generic shonen power-ups. Also, the jump itself seems to offer nearly everything of worth.
If a player came to you and asked if they could play as a construct. Either say, a golem of some sort with a personality imbued by magic or a cyborg with an independent AI, depending on the setting, would you let them?
If yes, would it be under any special conditions or with certain handicaps to compensate for their arguably overpowered nature?
>>50014656
You assume playing a cyborg/construct/whatever would be overpowered in the games I'd run.
The issue would be more about clashing with the established lore of the setting, if there was one.
You mean a warforged?
>>50014687
They need no food, no rest, are extremely strong and extremely hardy. Can't drown, can't be poisoned. It's hard to imagine any setting where they wouldn't be considered overpowered as player characters.
What system accurately portrays guns and has a wide selection of guns?
No GURPS though.
>>50011527
phoenix command, designed by nasa scientists
less accurate but less complex is Twilight 2000 2E. still fun though.
also, phoenix command exists as a less complex version in Aliens RPG, Terminator RPG, Lawnmower Man RPG, Dracula RPG, etc.
>>50011527
Shadowrun
>>50011527
what is the utility of having a wide variety in an RPG? I understand having a certain level of diversity, but the difference between an AR, a SCAR, and a FAMAS is largely irrelevant in a game played with dice.
What sort of charactet archetypes or concepts can be related with rapiers?
>>49990817
pussy-ass nobles.
A dashing rogue. A gentleman. The man with the mask.
Or just a professional duelist. Rapiers are probably the best sword you could choose for a proper sword duel.
>>49990817
Prat.
Is there a situation where the rapier is a good to optimal choice?
Even fucking katanas have their niche. They make a reasonable amount of sense in things like cyberpunk. But rapiers? I just don't see when you'd pick one over other swords.
Eldars aren't the top army because I alwayscdefeat the new guy that use them in my gaming group edition.

So im in a 5e campaign and interested in fucking with the dm, mainly cause the dm is annoying me in a few ways.
im playing as a aasimar ranger, lawful evil. any suggestions?
What is the DM doing that is annoying you so much?
>>50008159
Sucks to your aasimar.
>>50008159
>any suggestions?
Well first you need a gun. Make sure it's loaded! Now, place it against your temple and pull the trigger!
Good luck, this should solve the problem.
What setting has the most realistic depiction of a post-scarcity society?
>>49996209
Brave New World by Huxley.
>>49996209
Culture books
>>49996442
Which are mostly set on pre-Culture planets, because Banks didn't think he could make post-scarcity interesting.
He may have been right.
What are the best rpgs to play as a part of a tribe, /tg/?
Being murder hobos is fun and all but making the live of your tribe members better seems a lot more fun, going from trouble makers to legends and all that. Like King of Dragon pass but with every players controlling a ring member or something alike, I was thinking to use RQ6 but I dunno if any other system is better suited for that. Also in tech levels below the typical fantasy land, from stone age to iron age.
Any tip for gods and tribes would be useful too, making the setting right now. Inspired in the med and all those tribes less loved like the Lybians, Thracians, Iberians, Thracians, Ligurians etc.
*Italians instead of thracians. Thinking about the big civs and trying to think what would be cooler, Carthage-like nations, Hellenic empire, Persians, Chinese or a combination of those warring with each other, and besieged be horse/animal nomads because fuck yeah horse nomads.
So no love for bronze age / tribals?
